What a lot of these clips show to me, is that the difference between a top-line ref and an everyday amateur ref is the ability to recognise out-of-the-ordinary events when they happen, and having the cojones to react appropriately.
So many of these tackles don't get the red cards they should, because the ref is just completely caught unawares by them.

You get what you pay for, really. These hack and slash players/leagues don't much about many of the challenges we see, so the better referees leave. The abuse that is allowed to go on is ridiculous, so better referees leave. The pay and time invested aren't worth the BS.

When I was 20 I had my leg broken in a severe, yet legal, tackle, because the 'keeper and the defender went for the ball at the same time. It just so happened that my leg was in the middle. I still scored, but on reflection, the year I spent in hospital and the multiple operations somewhat dampened that achievement. It's a contact sport, after all, so you have to expect an injury or two.

That's why refereeing is so hard. A group of people can watch this, freeze it at 0:44, play it back and forth a couple of times and half of them say "great tackle, all ball" and half of them say "studs into ankle - red" 🙂
It's a clear foul, though 🙂*Best* case is he got a some of the ball, but also the player and acted careless towards his opponent, free kick, no caution... Worst case is that he entered the tackle with excessive force, hit above the ankle, endangered the safety of the other player and gets a straight red. It's a bit subjective & personally I can't exactly tell from the grainy video, but the referee had a great position and angle. Not sure why he didn't call at least a foul.

It's really interesting seeing the quality of refereeing in these leagues. Some of the refs decision making are very bad. Majority of the refs aren't speaking to players after bad challenges, especially the dangerous ones, and therefore the tackles continue to escalate. The clip at 1:10 for example. Ref is in a great view, sees what happened, you can see his reaction in his body language as he observes and yet he isn't confident enough to intervene and set a standard for the game, throws a yellow card to everyone involved and calls it a day. If you did that in a Saturday / Sunday game in the UK, you would be off the pitch instantly.
Edit : Watch number 8 for the team in white hit the player in his lower face / chest. Straight red.

@SavzillaHD you are kidding me, right?

These are also the types of players in many comments saying "never a red" blah, blah. AND teaching and giving misconceptions to the next generation of players who think they know it all.
Also, you called out referees in this "league." My response is that this happens all over the world. Both players and referee have misconceptions. Me for instance, I am a grass roots referee, so probably bring my thinking to a semi pro league that player won't like.....
