Todd. Great to see you back with Sonor. Just watched your interview with drum and stage. Our personal stories growing up with an incessant passion for incredible instruments follow similar paths. Man did that interview hit home with me. I am about to turn 55 and a year and a half ago, I was finally blessed to have the ability to build an SQ2 kit. When you spoke about the kit “giving back to you”, again, absolutely spot on. It’s hard to describe in words what that actually is,especially to non drummers. I wish you the best with Sonor Drums. I hope you come out to the DC area sometime in the near future for a clinic.
amazing Todd... i'm a tama guy because i grew up in the 80s loving hard rock and heavy metal so i really enjoy playing vintage tama drums... that being said, i think Sonor has made the best drums for a very long time... they're just so beautiful to look at, like fine furniture, and the sound is incredible... welcome back and looking forward to hearing more about these wonderful instruments... cheers!!
When I saw your "stay tuned" announcement a few days ago I immediately thought back to your unbridled joy playing Steve Smith's kit at West Coast Drum Shop last year and I knew this was coming. Congrats and I hope your year is amazing!
I've been a Tama player since 1983 (no endorsements, sadly). But when I bought my last set of drums 5 years ago or so, it came down to Sonor and Tama. I nearly left Tama but opted to stay. But I can say that Sonor drums are a stunning piece of instrument and the craftsmanship is beautiful. Most importantly, they sound clear and have the bite that I like to hear from a set of drums. But Tama is my musical partner and the difference wasn't enough to leave her! Continued success!
All the best, Todd! I'm looking forward to seeing more videos of you playing the new drums! Your playing is magical and inspirational. You're my favourite drummer. I wish you all the success in the world 🍻 the drums look absolutely gorgeous ❤
You may consider following in Danny Carey's tracks...he had Sonor create different thicknesses for the drum shells as they got larger in size. I think he had like 8 ply on the 8/10 (+) for the smaller tom sizes and then it got down to 5 ply on the largest floor tom. Thinner wood resonates more and the thicker wood will help the smaller drums project more. I love your content! I have been a drumming fan every since Pieces of Eight landed on my fathers record player. I am still watching all of the Drumeo content! Happy New Year Todd!!
The last acoustic drums I had were Sonor ..Loved them sounded great ..Don't blame you Todd. Steve Smith and you will sound even better with Sonor in front of you.
Another absolute stunner of a kit. Sonor have been my favourite drums for a very long time now, I'm happy to see more people jumping aboard the ship, though I will admit jealousy.
They all eventually switch companies it depends who gives them the most. But in my opinion once you get to that level of craftsmanship all of them make outstanding kits!
Wow! You have no idea. I'm looking at Gretsch, and also Ludwig kits. Money? You should have better manners. You, kind person, should not be assuming so much. It's called saving $$$. Have a happy new year.
No surprise. I’ve always thought Sonor had the best sounding toms out there. I just hope the parts availability issues Sonor had are no longer a problem.
Welcome home I bet you've been waiting for this for years

Okay, that wasn't too freaking amazing. Amazing solo, amazing sounds, amazing looking drums. I sort of felt like it would land on Sonor. You're in good company with Steve Smith.
Outstanding Todd!!! Welcome back man. I switched from DW over to Sonor (SQ1) about 3 years ago. Best sounding drums i ever played. Cant wait to see your new videos behind them
Sorry man, I have had most all brands…and my forever kit that I will order will be Sonor. The tone is insane. They have a knob with a grommet which controls the amount of air coming out of the rack toms. Also - the circumference of each Tom is a bit smaller than other drum companies which has more contact with the head. The drums sound EQ’d out of the box. Leave it to the Germans to make the best sounding drums.
I imagine there must have been an uncomfortable conversation (or two..or more) with Pearl. When you're a topflight artist who has endorsed a major brand for so long, exactly how does a shift like this happen? What are the considerations taken into account? After all, possibly hundreds (thousands?) of Todd's fans have been influenced over the years to play Pearl drums based upon his past endorsement. I guess I've been around drums long enough to realize all the manufacturers make outstanding instruments (if you can fork over the $). I'm sure Todd would sound amazing on just about any brand he sat behind. I think it would be great to hear his point of view on this decision. If it's purely a business decision, I think he should just say so. Nothing wrong with that, but this is one fan who'd like to know. Todd?
This is what gets old. I'm sure when he went to pearl he exclaimed how the drums did this and that and that's why he switched. Now he switches back and he'll say how they do this and that and that's why he switched.
but Peart didn't go from Tama to DW...after Tama came Ludwig starting in 1987 through until 1996 ... Neil Peart - Drum magazine 1980's Quote from switching from Tama to Ludwig... " Well, lots of Big News in the equipment department this year, for those of you who are interested in such things. When I decided last year that I wanted to get a new set of drums, I went about it in a very methodical way. This time I wanted to be absolutely sure that I was using the best sounding drums there were. So I went down to the Percussion Centre in Fort Wayne, and we tried out six different makes of drums, side by side with the same heads and tuning. The result was a new set of Ludwig drums ― the ones which sounded the most lively and exciting. A similar "A-B" comparison confirmed the effectiveness of the Vibrafibing treatment, and that process of a thin layer of fiberglass has been applied to the inside of the shells."
Why the changes, money, thats all....when you get to that level, they will try their best to get you to use their brand...and that's fine. Todd loved pearl, contracts up, now he loves sonor....lol...
Todd Sucherman is an awesome drummer, but I do not understand why he endorsed Pearl drums for most of his career and now goes back to Sonor. Did Pearl stop the free products and endorsement? The stars should have to purchase the products that they believe are the best, then we would truly know what they believe is the best!
You can’t go wrong with any brand. All drum companies make top notch stuff these days.
Correct, the difference is free products and endorsements!
Yes! Can't wait to hear all the upcoming material with these "new" drums
That is one georgeous looking set of drums. The wood finish is striking!

La mia prima batteria è stata una Sonor Anni'60...Mitico!!!
From Italy

Fresh sounding drums!! Love it!
Fabulous! The Pearl Kits sounded amazing too, but Sonor gives you a warm tingly feeling -- next level!!

i played Pearl for all my drumming life, but changed to Tama last year, couldnt be happier with my choice.
They sound fantastic Todd.. and also, you could make any set of drums sound fantastic. Congratulations!
All the best, Todd! I'm looking forward to seeing more videos of you playing the new drums! Your playing is magical and inspirational. You're my favourite drummer. I wish you all the success in the world 🍻 the drums look absolutely gorgeous ❤
Right on! Love Sonor.

Looking forward to hearing more from these drums! Congratulations!
I am floored!!!! They look gorgeous!
Same ! The kit looks and sounds amazing!
Love it ! Very happy to hear this ! Sonor is Superior!!
Congratulations!
Excellent playing, as always, and great sounding kit!!
Wow! Pearl made mistake to let you walk! Can’t wait to hear new material with Sonor.
They all eventually switch companies it depends who gives them the most. But in my opinion once you get to that level of craftsmanship all of them make outstanding kits!
Great news ! ✌🏼
Ognuno di noi è " qualcosa".......: Todd in fondo in fondo è SONOR....! Ma poi qualsiasi cosa suoni, Todd resta uno dei migliori batteristi di sempre!
I've been looking at Sonor drums. Now I'll be looking at them more! A new kit, soon. 🎉
Wow! You have no idea. I'm looking at Gretsch, and also Ludwig kits. Money? You should have better manners. You, kind person, should not be assuming so much. It's called saving $$$. Have a happy new year.
I've been a TAMA guy since 1982.
Me since 1990...From rockstar to star, but now SC maple 😃
Under my criteria Todd the best behind the kit.
I knew it this is awesome. Congrats!
Hello Todd, Happy 2025:❤👏💯
TODD.....YOU MAKE THOSE DRUMS TALK !!!!!!!!!!
You sound good playing any brand. Go with what makes you happy.
wow! enjoy the new old sounds, Todd!
No surprise. I’ve always thought Sonor had the best sounding toms out there. I just hope the parts availability issues Sonor had are no longer a problem.
Right, because I have to wait for an undetermined timeframe for a new lug for my One of a Kind snare drum.
Very happy to read these news! Congratulations 😊👍
They sound great!
Yeessssss !!! CALLED IT
Wow, cool, I've always had my eye on sonor as one of the top brands but have never had the chance to play them in real life,
First great news of 2025!
Now bring Deen Castronovo to join forces with Sonor as well😎
Very nice!!!
Welcome home I bet you've been waiting for this for years
Okay, that wasn't too freaking amazing. Amazing solo, amazing sounds, amazing looking drums. I sort of felt like it would land on Sonor. You're in good company with Steve Smith.
This is exactly what we Needed after a Blast of Winter Weather. 👍🙏
Wow!
That was awesome 🤘.
You made a good choice
Outstanding Todd!!! Welcome back man. I switched from DW over to Sonor (SQ1) about 3 years ago. Best sounding drums i ever played. Cant wait to see your new videos behind them
Awesome. When can we expect a rundown of the kit?
Beautiful and gorgeous sounding (but the price tag frightens me) ✌🏻😂
..grandes marcas grandes bateristas...pudia ele da um kit da Pearl pra mim...🎉🎉..pra ter mais espaço pra montar a Sonor 😊😊😊 you Love Pearl
Classic.
HELL YEAH!!!! 😮
Quite nice.
Welcome to KHS/Sonor
WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that was the brand you were looking to move back to. Of course they sound good due to the operator🤙🏼
yessir
Wow Todd
What was the reason for the switch? I thought the Pearl Masters Maple gum series was incredible
The Sonor drum set with all copper hardware, stands, rims , throw off, lug casting, etc etc was always the one you just say WOW.
I'm such a TAMA fanboy - but SONOR sound amazing. Steve Smith ! Danny Carey ! Fyfe Ewing !
Gavin Harrison!!!
@@StefBelgium Yesssss It was Fyfe Ewing from THERAPY? that first got me interested in Sonors.
Benny Greb
What Happened to Pearl
Nothing Happen he just wanted Change and change is good
the SQ2's are killer! Germans make good woods ngl!
Well...they sound alright dont they!
Playing Steve Smith's(?) kit really got you back to the brand huh
As the late Kim Plainfield always said to me, "Man when are you gonna go get yourself some Sonor Drums?"
Why did you switch from Pearl drums to Sonor drums?
Todd started with Sonor. He is just going back to them.
Todd would sound great Even playing DW.
No way!!! The Pearl’s you were playing were the cream of the crop.
Sorry man, I have had most all brands…and my forever kit that I will order will be Sonor. The tone is insane. This one had to hurt the Pearl AR dept.
No way. I love Sonor but he’s got some serious Pearl kits
Aww man, what was wrong with Pearl?
This is FanDamnTastic!
Pearl is a great company. But Todd deserves the best.
Oh my goodness, do I spy a 6" tom!? I thought Sonor weren't making 6" anymore
By request only tho
They don't unless you're Todd Sucherman 😉
Finally leaving pearl. It's about time. Pearl drums are not the same they used to be at all.
Can I have all your pearl kits? 👀 😂
Sonor toms sound better than Premier by far.
🤣 And I thought he was going back to Ayotte!!!

\m/
They just sound like the same Pearl drums to me.
Try DW!
Ew
Does it really matter what he uses lmao 🤣🤣🤣 he's a very underrated Drummer whom if you haven't seen live your missing out
:-)
damn, that's a big loss for Pearl.
Todd, time to incorporate Power Toms in your kit!
WHAT?? You were so pro Pearl. What happened?
What about a drum rack,or kick pedals??? Sonor dont offer racks, and there pedal offering isnt the greatest.
This is what gets old. I'm sure when he went to pearl he exclaimed how the drums did this and that and that's why he switched. Now he switches back and he'll say how they do this and that and that's why he switched.
No... Pearl better.
better contract, more money....easy....same reason peart went from tama to DW...they made an offer you can't refuse.....i understand fully.....
but Peart didn't go from Tama to DW...after Tama came Ludwig starting in 1987 through until 1996 ... Neil Peart - Drum magazine 1980's Quote from switching from Tama to Ludwig... @@signals34 you clearly have zero knowledge/idea how endorsements work

About time someone switched from Pearl to any brand not named DW. Wise choice but boy do I feel bad for the Pearl team for such a loss.
I would have not gone sonor.
But yes f……. Pearl.
The best reason to buy different drums 😂
WTH?
Meh! Love Todd’s drumming but switching seems meaningless. You were already using the best.
Ugly drums
Whatever helps.
