Tommy, as a paint professional, you DO NOT want to polish something before you powdercoat it. You NEED TO HAVE AN ANCHOR PATTERN. The powder needs something to grip to after it melts. It will 100% chip and flake if you polish before powder coating. Especially because you live in the northeast. It will look fine at first, but in a year or so, all hell will break loose. The proper thing to do is would be to media blast it, and powder coat it @ 5 mils DFT or so. 5 mils will hide all of the bumpy stuff from the casting. AGAIN, please do not polish parts before you powdercoat them. Edit: if the metal is that pitted, you need to repair the metal before blasting and powdercoating.
@@unheimliche9410 doesn't have to be radium specifically I just know they make the part and they actually look closer to the original Nissan part than there current set up . The hoses would be almost in factory location
HKS probably Contracts these engines out to be built by that old guy Sammit done a vid on a while back. The guy that measures bores and crank journals by feel with his fingers.
Just use a skim coat of metal based filler when you shave and smooth the covers before powerder coat. Mirror polishing them after shaving would be a waste of time if you are coating them in the end.
tommy's theory about the valve cover breathers. Putting the fittings deep down prevents oil from "climbing" the walls of the valve cover and "wicking" up into the an lines. it basically creates a chamfer (kinda) for the oil to drip off of rather than climbing the lines unobstructed.

Too freakin cool, I was in awe the entire video and I'll be that guy freaking out when I see this in person sometime especially with your level of detail. The valve cover idea is intriguing so looking forward to see how it turns out and how it could look on mine.
I use the MINE's baffles in mine, factory-style blowby caps, but it does still push a fair bit of oil into the catch can within just in a few laps. Also, very cool seeing seeing the RB28 step 2, but definitely would've been in the same boat with the disappointment in the finish quality. It's an engine that costs around as much as the whole car, after all.
I’d recommend investing in a real hydraulic crimping machine for hydraulic lines with the dies for stainless fittings because they look 100% cleaner and more oe also a way more sleek look versus “a/n lines” that everyone uses. The fittings are half the size and it’s all stainless. You can source them from a local Parker hydraulic shop at first
Number 26 RB26 from HKS what a beast of an engine though I would get one from Maatouks or Croydon Racing Development. That's just because I'm aussie and love the AJDM scene but the HKS keeps it a true JDM build congrats.
You might end up sucking up oil from those fittings in the valve covers if you lower them like you’re thinking. Especially with them being in the rear. Under acceleration the oil is going to pool in the rear of the heads and might suck up into those fittings. If your solution was a fix, you think the brilliant engineers at hks and suck would figured that out already.

You can mill most of the lettering but not all the way. The end will need to be blended by hand. You dont want or need a mirror finish. For aluminum cast I would use an orbital sander/ DA 60x, 80x, 120x will be sufficient.
