It’s so interesting to hear Cronenberg’s approach because on multiple occasions he has been able to pull career defining performances out of his actors. Jeff Goldblum in The Fly, Jeremy Irons in Dead Ringers, Cristopher Walken in Dead Zone, and Viggo Mortenson in Eastern Promises are amazing performances. I think Cronenberg is really into something with his method.
Outstanding. Less is more. Trust your team. And don't forget patience and respect for your film and the people that help put it on it's feet.
David Cronenberg, magnificent director.
Good God! @1:32 Is that really the what aspiring directors are usually taught? That's awful! No wonder there's so much abuse in Hollywood (though I'm sure this isn't the only factor).
Extremely helpful. Thank you for this.
I've just learned something new
Any more of this? I need to absorb every word...
If only all humans could communicate something like this.
Amazing advice!
post more of this talk. great stuff.
so great....so great...
The guy on the left is Mr. Bobblehead.
Cronenberg or Lynch? a big question.
Cronenberg.
Although , often incoherent in his art styles, Lynch is still one bar below him.
Lynch is still good at times.
Lynch is better for many different reasons, although Cronenberg is one of the greats and has made some true milestone films.
It's like apple and bananas. Lynch is surreal and Cronenberg makes Body Horror films How can you possibly compare these two directors in ANY way?
@@AntoniosPapantoniou Lynch is great because although his style obviously borrows from Fellini and Bergman, he has a gift of never making it seem contrived and although strange it all seems right.
lynch stayed lynch, cronenberg didn't stay cronenberg (or a good filmmaker).
Its ironic that Cronenberg is such a lovely person and his movies are so dreadful and horrific! I dont mean " dreadful " as criticism - his movies fill you with dread. You are frightened of what you're gonna see but still want to see it.
David Cronenberg
David Cronenberg's voice sounds like Gene Simmons'.
Totally agreed, it's great to be able to hire people who know what they're doing and then just let them have the input necessary to get the best out of the work. I feel that my biggest choice as a director/producer is selecting my crew and cast, from there I expect them to perform and meet my faith in their abilities. That said, if they fuck up then I take that as my responsibility, because I chose them. At least at this point in my career, I'm finding it best to collaborate and delegate, allowing everyone respect and a measure of creative input. The only thing I shut down is ego, if someone puts themselves ahead of the piece and ahead of the other crew/cast members.
Best director on the planet! Please upload more of this!
The key is getting great actors that don't need to be told how to do their job.
One of the greats.
Great tips. Lovely man
