Haweswater & The Old Corpse Road // The Lake District

This walk took us through some of the most beautiful and wild landscapes in the whole of the Lake District. Starting the walk on the shores of Haweswater, Finn and I walked along the Old Corpse Road - a path used in a bygone era to carry the dead village folk of Mardale Green over to Shap Abbey - and then up onto Selside Pike and Branstree. A quick drop down to Gatescarth Pass and we were soon at the summit of Harter Fell with stunning views west, across the Lakeland Fells. We then leisurely strolled down to Nan Bield Pass where we chose to head down to Small Water; enjoying the waterfalls along the way.

You know, it just dawned on me one of the reasons why I thoroughly enjoy this channel so much, apart from the breathtaking views, and the stellar photography of those views, there is not even a hint of unsightly hydro poles/cables/towers to obstruct the magnificent views. It's all 100% Mother Nature. SPECTACULAR! Thank You for sharing, Glenn. BIG love to Finn! 💚😊

It’s a nature reserve, you can’t fly a drone there therefore this video will be taken down soon and the guy sued for thousands of pounds👍

Really enjoyed the walk with you, brilliant photography and scenery and my faviorite area of the lakes since I first went there during the drought of 76 when the whole village was uncovered again.
The small abandoned huts on the corpse road were used for drying peat in season, loved the little mountain dog who knows how to get the best vantage points, so well behaved.
There is a superb book on the valley available online, called Mardale Mysteries, where all the place names can be found and lots more. Thank you very much for sharing your journey.

Great video again Glen. I’m always looking for walks where I can get some peaks, but isn’t too steep a climb for Louise. The climb up the Corpse Road doesn’t look too bad at all 🙂

Thank god, something to watch on my break at work, satisfying my lake district urges! I'll back in the fells next week and I can't wait. As ever another amazing Vlog, you deffo deserve more subs :) video quality is excellent. Glad to see young Fin is doing well too. I love your approach to photography, none of this sitting about waiting for sunset, very much a "if it happens it happens, if it dunt it dunt" attitude. I like that. Capture moments as they happen. It's a refreshing and easily my favourite hiking Vlogger. You put so much into your videos, the 3D Cam, Drone and beautiful photography. Incredible Vlogs. keep it up and stay safe fella. Si thi 😎
PS, Walk suggestion. Longside Edge to Skiddaw and down either Carlside or Lower Man. Great views over the lesser known northan fells and relatively quiet with regards to walkers if your early.

Beautiful video. I think they refer to the trails where they carried the dead as Coffin Roads, not corpse roads. There is one near Rydal Hall as well. Story goes that landowners did not want coffins carried across their property since the law then gave people the right to traverse their property with or without a coffin.

Thanks very much 😊 Yes, I know the the Rydal coffin trail very well. The Old Corpse Road is indeed a coffin trail but is known as the 'Old Corpse Road' and is marked on OS maps as such. There is a slightly different reason for it than land ownership. In a nutshell: Shap Abbey prevented Mardale Green from having its own church right up until the 1700s so all the dead had to be carried to Shap to be inturred. Thanks for watching 🙏

Ah, great. Thanks for clarifying. Stunning area, with or without corpses.
