    wow this was a very interesting watch, i can just hear some of those sounds being used in a game as some high tech equipment or robotics or even just radio distortion the possibilities seem endless, especially once you start playing with it in Cecilia! I may have to pick up both of these!

      Yes for game sound design it’s awesome but also electronic music production. Endless possibilities:)

      A robot arm would be a lot of fun to record, though you can get some of the same effect from more common 3D printers too, not sure why I haven't recorded my own 3D printer yet, time to gab my Ether!

    Great video Marcel. I don’t have either of these but I do have a small telephone pickup I bought from Amazon. That’s my first emf “mic” and it’s so cool hearing the electromagnetic sounds. Little tip. If you can find a plasma ball, definitely put either of these up to it. The sounds I got from mine were insane.

      Hi Matt! Thank you so much and also for the recommendation. Yes I remember recording a plasma ball inside the Science Museum in Singapore. That was awesome :)

    6 minutes in it's already clear to me that I need both, I love the Ether and I always wondered how it compared to the LOM's one, thank you for providing me an answer! Also gonna check Cecilia out, as a sound design nerd it's a tool I can see myself having TONS of fun with!

      My Ether is a lot of fun, planning to build something similar to the Preisor to add into another project (a Raspberry Pi based portable infrared camera, figured EMF mic for sound made sense for such an odd device) too for even more versatility/variaty

    I use also a Pick-Up Coil from Jez Riley French. I like Ether v2, where you can change the length of pick-up the electro wave signal, but with Pick-Up Coil you can record a kind of different sounds in closer distances like I do with Ether v2.

So far I already have the Lom Elektrosluch 3+ (kind of close mic stereo compared to the Priezor) and the Priezor. It's a lot of fun to discover all kind of sounds and looking forward to your next videos. Thanks!

    Great video! Btw, are you the only source of information about EM recording on the entire internet? So hard to find anything other than paranormal activity. And why aren't there dozens of various viable recorders available instead of like... two? Strange. Also, Cecilia looks very interesting and useful - and it's FOSS too. Again, never heard of it from anyone else. Thank you for sharing these gems!
    P.S.: _Sadly, like you say, Lom's completely sold out. But I found out they are based "nextdoor" in Slovakia (I'm from the Czech Republic), so maybe I could visit them each day and ask "do you have one now? and now?" until they make some...! ( jk, don't worry :D )_

The mini-to-XLR adapter, I paused the video to order through your link; it will be here the day after (I'll explore with headphones until then). Also, I began to play with Cecilia 5. Thanks a lot for another great video. I was eyeing the Ether for some time now and since the Lom Geophone is back in stock I was thinking about the Priezor as well. In my case, since I'm into more aggressive and dynamic sound and look for more sturdy and durable looking mics, the Ether is my pick. I also want to thank you for showcasing Cecilla 5. I recently found the software myself in a article naming other free to use programs such as amsynth and zynaddsubfx. I've also found out about Kenaxis which has been used by a lot of high-profile names in electroacoustic improvisation such as Keith Rowe.

    • @FreeToUseSounds

  • @davidh1187

    Soma simply behaves like a radio receiver with a tuner knob and volume control - by touching the antenna you are simply 'retuning' it. You could get the same result removing the antenna from you AM/FM radio and plugging that into your recorder.

  • @steveliddle8417
    @steveliddle8417 Год назад

    I've been using AFILS receivers as EMF pickups. They are interesting because they are self powered, have level controls, high pass filters and a figure 8 pickup pattern. Ampetronic CMR3 and ILR3. Usually used for testing hearing loop Systems but work great as EMF pickups too.

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  Год назад +1

      This is interesting. I will look into it! So you just record the output 3.5 to the XLR port of a field recorder?

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  Год назад +1

      Edit: Just checked and it comes already with an XLR cable. Maybe I can find one here.

    • @steveliddle8417
      @steveliddle8417 Год назад

      And the CMR3 doesn't have a level control, it's meant to be used as a calibrated source for measurement of induction loop systems. The ILR3 is probably the more flexible device but you'd have to make a 3.5mm to XLR cable that only feeds the output to pin 2 and ground otherwise it won't work with a differential (XLR) input. 3.5mm to 3.5mm TRS is fine though - perfect companion to the H1n.

    Seems like the Ether is more amplified and brings out more nuance from electronics. Whereas the Priezor you have something cleaner and more finicky about source direction. I own an Ether and love it. Sounds incredible on toothbrush chargers and our foot massager. Pro tip for everyone. Record all this stuff at 96khz or more. Then pitch it down and you'll still hear tons of detail. ALIEN WORLDS YO!

    I experience a whole lot of noise when I'm recording EMF sounds (I have a DIY priezor). I'm curious if this is just something I should expect, or if there's a way to do noise reduction without degrading my intended signal too much. Marcel, would you, or anyone here in the comments, have any thoughts?

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Austin. Sometimes when the signal isn't strong enough I get noise in the higher frequency with the Ether but not with the other devices I use. So, I would try getting a stronger EMF signal. Its really up the device.
