I compared the XR with an XS in an EE store today and to me, the XS had slightly punchier colours but sharpness was really difficult to tell apart. The XR screen looked absolutely fine to me
Richard Anderson not just fine it looks damn good. I say to me it’s better than a Samsung’s display only because of the colour accuracy. I much prefer the lcd over the oled messed up colours
got an XR upgrade from a 6s so im happy. For 4k videos I have my laptop and if i wanted to take serious high quality photos ill just bring along my 25MP camara
FlightX101 ya but the XR is also really good at 4K videos with 60fps. My Samsung s8 would stutter and be super choppy with high quality video recording. It was useless. Couldn’t use it. Has to go with regular 1080p otherwise it would be super choppy. With the iphone it’s really smooth with 4K. Love it
Don't get me wrong but the Xs has better value in the near future. What I mean is that in 2 or 3 years the Xs will age better and blend with the rivals more closely. But a lower price is never a bad perk. BTW excellent comparison. Happy holidays!!
Don’t care about specs...the display looks great like all iPhones prior to the X. Anyone upgrading from a 6, 6s or 7 will love the new style. Great video! 👍
Why does everyone say that the XR is a budget phone??? it's not meant to be a budget phone, nor did apple every say it's a budget phone, they are both high tier devices but the one is the usual iphone i7+ iphone 8+ tier, while the other is the new luxory tier, where do ya'll pull that budget crap from, and why would you ever compared this to a 5c, the 5c was plastic + had a last year gen cpu etc, all that stuff doesn't apply to the XR, what the hell lol

+Jed Martins, I have no doubt that it looks good. But so does my friend's Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X's screen which is 1080p and cost $150. Furthermore, there are plenty of comments from 6 Plus / 7 Plus / 8 Plus owners saying they could see a difference. And they should. Even if you can't see individual pixels, that's not the point. Side by side, 326ppi vs 400+ppi, there should be a perceptible difference in sharpness when viewing true 1080p videos. And this should simply not happen with a $750 phone.

Both are tempting. But a new battery and iOS12 have my 6s Plus running as good as ever. A savings of $720 or $970 and I have a headphone jack and 3D Touch(which I never use) and a 1080p screen.
Actually the XR isn’t like a standard iPhone even though its resolution is low it doesn’t mean it’s bad plus people would like to save some money here and there and that’s why apple gave this option to people who wanted to save some money and still get a very alike to the XS

The iPad pro have lower ppi, ALL tablets are lower ppi, TVs are even lower ppi than tablets. Because when the screen size rises, we need less ppi (Because we dont hold them that close to the eyes) So, saying this is like a iPhone 4.... its stupid. Yeah, the ppi is the same, but that says nothing. Because the screen size is not the same. The XR has almost double the screen size, making the amount of pixels more than dobble of that in the iPhone 4 (1 483 776 pixels on the XR 614 400 on iPhone 4) XR has a much better screen, showing much more detail and information. Yet you talk like its the same as iPhone 4.... be professional, please! Only kids playing tech journalists on youtube these days...
PPI has nothing to do with screen size. It's "per inch". A bigger screen with the same 326 PPI will look just as soft and not-as-sharp compared to the same size screen with 400+ PPI. And while I agree that you cannot see individual pixels in a 720p phone while holding it at a reasonable distance, I can definitely see the difference in quality between 720p and 1080p videos even on a small device. The Xr has 828p which is much closer to 720 than 1080.
TheMickyTDI That depends on the resolution of the photo, I gues 😄 Its when you dont zoom in the photo that a hi res display shines. Zooming in will look the same on any display and depends on the photo. We agree on the ppi. I think you misunderstod me. I was talking about the awful comparison to the iPhone 4. A lot of screens today have much lower ppi than the iPhone 4, but still higher res, depending on the size of the screen, including any 40» 4K screen. So the ppi only matters when the devices you compare are at the same distance to your eyes. And you dont sit at the same distance to a TV. You dont have the same distanse to a XR and a iPhone 4. Its a bigger screen with higher resolution. But yeah, the ppi is the same...
It’s not a budget iPhone but it’s clearly lacking more expensive technology like a second lens, 3D Touch, stainless steel and an OLED panel. The budget iphones are currently iPhone 7-8

I bought the xs max. I am visually impaired, so the huge screen does make a difference and I can afford the Apple tax. For most people however it isn't worth it... Just go with the xr or last years model
@@Handlegamer12360 I was using Android for about 8 years. Its fine - and better than ios in some ways - but for my use-cases Apple provides the best platform by far. We are all different however
did you get one of the shitty panels from LG? which configuration? in my local department store I saw such an Xs Max and it looks awful compared to the Xs next to it. Dull and lame colors, crappy brightness, True Tone not noticeable. The risk is too high for me spending over 1000 € and then having a shitty panel.
@@adamek9750 they had to use pixel masking and other technologies to make the biggest LCD. Also, they had to curve the edges and stuff which made it really difficult to make the side bezels small. Its the best they did.
Sean Patterson I was in Apple Store yesterday and screen difference between XR and XS is like night and day. You can't even compare. XS screen is sooooo good, while XR is mediocre.
I'm thinking of upgrading from my 6s and it's so hard to decide. I like the XR because of the portrait mode, battery, and of course price. However I feel like in a few years when i'm still using this phone the XS might be ahead with the better screen and more storage. (I don't see the zoom as a big factor.) Anyone have any advice?

Giving a 720p screen in 2018 is not a problem but giving it at $750 is a very bad decision. It just shows that apple is taking advantage of it's loyal customers to sell such dated downgraded hardware at extremely high price. People will say that the display doesn't matter, no one can see the difference in person it's actually visible as the 326 ppi apple claims to be un noticed by human eye is noticable at 6.3 inch display size and paying such amount for such a non excusable downgrade is not a good idea.
You can't see individual pixels in a 720p phone, but the human eye can definitely perceive the loss of sharpness in a 720p video compared to 1080p on the same size screen. :-) Apple fans will focus in the former (can't see individual pixels) in an attempt to deny the latter (1080p is noticeably sharper than 720p or 828p)
how is it a bad decision when its a 64gb, when last years iphone 8 was 850 for a 64gb and that was the 8plus... this is even as big or bigger than then 8 plus with bigger specs with a downscaled 1080p screen just remember if they had a 32gb version of the xr it would be less. plus 750 is really good, xs and x's max is way more expensive, pretty much the same specs, coming from a iphone x max owner i can say, all 3 phones are good, pricing is on point and its the best release thus so far. they didnt downgrade anything, there is a new retina display on the xr, with all the new specs engineered. and no apple is not taking advantage of anyone, if i say their marketing strategy is smart. and for the people its really good.

I agree with you that it's a good strategy ( the profit margin in beyond the roof ) for the company but in no way is it good for the customers. When compared to iphones ( like you mentioned ) it is fair enough but when compared to other alternatives ( which an ios user would not consider because of being in the ios walled garden ) it's practically a big rip off at $750. But I respect your opinion and if you think it's a good buy then please buy it, don't let anyone make you think otherwise.
When you’re in the sunlight that old retina screen limitations really show up when somebody rocking an 2 yr olded screen next to you has a far superior image it needs to be $100 cheaper in my opinion
I kinda regret not getting the XS just for the smaller bezels but the size is just too small and I wasn't gonna pay XS max money. Happy with the XR and the screen resolution doesn't bother me at all but I do hate looking at those bezels. They need to cut them down on the next iteration of the XR.
My S7 Edge from 2016 have native 1440p resolution and I use it with 720p daily. There is almost no difference to tell, if not carefully doing a side by side check while your nose is touching the phone.
From the beginning you are misleading. It is not a budget iPhone. Plus it’s not a successor of the iPhone SE. It’s the successor of iPhone 8 or 7 may be

Unless you pixel peep on the iPhone XR by zooming in on a high resolution photo, it’s hard to tell the difference. I compared my iPhone X to a XR and there’s barely any difference.
Here's the real question: when playing a RUclips video, what is the difference? Do I get to play 4K playback on both iPhones or just on the XS? In other words, do I get to play this video in 4K on the iPhone XR? Also, do they shoot in 4k60fps?
I went from the X to the XR to the XS. If im honest I think all Iphones are inferior to the Samsung Galaxys however the XR is perfectly decent enough to use. My problem with it is it feels too fat in my hand and it was really bothering me. Other than that the screen seems a bit dull but which is more strain on the eyes? A dull screen or a smaller one?
XR this time around, because you know the XS is going to be surpassed within 6-12 months. Save the quid... AppleCare is also + $50 on the XS models. Thanks for the overview

for the price they are selling the iPhone xr i can buy a decent gaming laptop and still have money left to buy a mid tier Android smartphone with *HD DISPLAY* in my country
I like the XR cause it has a better battery, but I like the XS because it has a SUPER camera and 3D Touch. (yes, I actually use 3D Touch) is it worth spending the extra $300 for the XS? (All I care about is battery and camera)

If they used the 3x scaling display from the Plus line rather than the 2x from the regular it would have been pretty ideal. I can notice jagged edges around text on my 7 at 326ppi, but it's significantly smoother to me on the Plus at 401. That's really the main thing stopping me from the Xr (which is already 1K in CAD), I don't want to move laterally from my 7 on PPI. More waiting I guess.
This is why we don’t understand how can somebody justify this for its price tag. But if you think about it, there really is no point to upgrade from an iphone x to xs, so apple had to make the iphone x’s more appealing than the XR
This. I can understand a non-Plus iPhone user justifying the Xr's screen since they are used to 326ppi anyway. But those who claim that there is no perceptible difference between 326ppi vs 400+ppi in an attempt to defend the Xr is deluding themselves.

I got to say I went to the Apple Store and compared the phones and yeah the iPhone XR screen looks okay but if you compare it to the XS screen or even the iPhone 8 plus screen it looks not great , it's okay and if you're alright with that maybe it's the phone to get... but I don't know that's a lot of money for a screen that's just okay.
Get the Xs. I tried the XR and had to return it. The bezels and screen are terrible and it is much thicker than the Xs. I also thought the screen wasn't as bright. Just bite the bullet and it the Xs.
Resolution and PPI are not directly relative. 226 PPI has nothing to do with HD. I’m watching this video right now on an X-RAY and 1080 is being scaled down, therefore it looks fine. There are a lot of good videos about screen resolution and PPI as well as scaling. I suggest you review a few of those before you start talking about PPI and screen resolution and knocking on the 326. The screen looks great. It can’t be argued. Stats on a box mean nothing.
@@Thetechchap are you looking at it with a magnifying glass? Normal viewing distance and they are identical. I even compared it side by side to my S8 at max resolution and I prefer the look of the XRs LCD. It was brighter and more color accurate.

I went for the Google Pixel 2 XL last month (trading in a Galaxy S9+ to do so) and feel that I have a far better phone with the 'pure' Android experience to boot 👍

The true flagship iphones remain to be the ones with 1000 usd pricing from now on. XR is an overpriced lower quality alternative, luring people with larger display and a 5c-esque appearance for those still seeking tto hold an iphone without spending a grand.
I couldn’t justify paying $750 for the XR when i could pay $250 more to get a superior phone.. To me, the $750 & $1000 price tags are both ridiculously expensive.. but if i was spending that sort of money on a phone, i would rather get the latest and greatest version. It does have superior display & camera two of which are probably some of the most important features for many users. I couldn’t be happy with paying $750 for an Xr knowing i could’ve paid $250 more and gotten the superior Xs
Did you have any WiFi and network coverage issues? I bought a Xs and had it replaced by a second unit and still keep having very low WiFi download speed and not being able to have a phone call in very low coverage areas.
Certainly not a successor to the SE, and does not cost 749 pounds, it costs seven forty nine American dollars which would translate to a lower amount in British pounds.
I am not an Apple fan, but somehow using iPhones since the iPhone 4 > now the iPhone 6 Plus. Liked very much, that it just works without any kind of "problems". I am looking for a new phone, but will definetly have a look outside the Apple world. The price for the prime phone is just insane this time.

Watching this on my iPhone Xs Max lol I think the screen thing is overrated I want from the 8 to the Xs Max and I wasn’t blown away. Screen legit looks similar. Retina display is fine.
Have the option to buy an xs with a €200 discount meaning only a €100 difference. The double camera doesn’t bother me but is the screen that much better to make me go to the xs. I’m upgrading from an iPhone 6. Battery is important to and I like the colour options on the xr. So the question is, is the xs screen worth an additional €100.
I would encourage you go to an Apple store and take a look.the iPhone XR, is a nice looking phone and the screen looks okay... maybe just okay but you can definitely tell it's not the sharpest and when you compare it to the XS or even last year's iPhone 8 + you can see that the XR screen is not the best.
My wife has an Xperia xz2 and although it’s an LCD screen it has 424ppi and the difference is huge. The 326ppi on the iPhone is a serious drawback alright
People diss the xr only because it carries the “X” title in its name. People pretend like every other iPhone they had before the X didn’t have the same screen resolution. Smh...

did you get one of the shitty panels from LG? which configuration? in my local department store I saw such an Xs Max and it looks awful compared to the Xs next to it. Dull and lame colors, crappy brightness, True Tone not noticeable. The risk is too high for me spending over 1000 € and then having a shitty panel.

Apple tried their best. if they made the bezels any thinner, you can see the blue light leakage on the sides.
I don’t get why if we had tiny bezels on lcd phones for years and now this is the best apple can do?
@@adamek9750 they had to use pixel masking and other technologies to make the biggest LCD. Also, they had to curve the edges and stuff which made it really difficult to make the side bezels small. Its the best they did.
Just picked up mine today. In store the screen looked identical to the XS. I’m so glad I bought the XR instead.

I'm thinking of upgrading from my 6s and it's so hard to decide. I like the XR because of the portrait mode, battery, and of course price. However I feel like in a few years when i'm still using this phone the XS might be ahead with the better screen and more storage. (I don't see the zoom as a big factor.) Anyone have any advice?

Have the XR, display is great, until I went into the Apple Store yesterday and did a compare with the XS and hmm, might take it back and upgrade.
Giving a 720p screen in 2018 is not a problem but giving it at $750 is a very bad decision. It just shows that apple is taking advantage of it's loyal customers to sell such dated downgraded hardware at extremely high price.
People will say that the display doesn't matter, no one can see the difference in person it's actually visible as the 326 ppi apple claims to be un noticed by human eye is noticable at 6.3 inch display size and paying such amount for such a non excusable downgrade is not a good idea.
You can't see individual pixels in a 720p phone, but the human eye can definitely perceive the loss of sharpness in a 720p video compared to 1080p on the same size screen. :-) Apple fans will focus in the former (can't see individual pixels) in an attempt to deny the latter (1080p is noticeably sharper than 720p or 828p)

how is it a bad decision when its a 64gb, when last years iphone 8 was 850 for a 64gb and that was the 8plus... this is even as big or bigger than then 8 plus with bigger specs with a downscaled 1080p screen just remember if they had a 32gb version of the xr it would be less. plus 750 is really good, xs and x's max is way more expensive, pretty much the same specs, coming from a iphone x max owner i can say, all 3 phones are good, pricing is on point and its the best release thus so far. they didnt downgrade anything, there is a new retina display on the xr, with all the new specs engineered. and no apple is not taking advantage of anyone, if i say their marketing strategy is smart. and for the people its really good.

I agree with you that it's a good strategy ( the profit margin in beyond the roof ) for the company but in no way is it good for the customers. When compared to iphones ( like you mentioned ) it is fair enough but when compared to other alternatives ( which an ios user would not consider because of being in the ios walled garden ) it's practically a big rip off at $750.
But I respect your opinion and if you think it's a good buy then please buy it, don't let anyone make you think otherwise.

When you’re in the sunlight that old retina screen limitations really show up when somebody rocking an 2 yr olded screen next to you has a far superior image it needs to be $100 cheaper in my opinion
I kinda regret not getting the XS just for the smaller bezels but the size is just too small and I wasn't gonna pay XS max money. Happy with the XR and the screen resolution doesn't bother me at all but I do hate looking at those bezels. They need to cut them down on the next iteration of the XR.
My S7 Edge from 2016 have native 1440p resolution and I use it with 720p daily. There is almost no difference to tell, if not carefully doing a side by side check while your nose is touching the phone.

I just bought an iphone 6s 32gb for £155 and changed the battery. It is still snappy and that is going to last at least 2 more years.

Unless you pixel peep on the iPhone XR by zooming in on a high resolution photo, it’s hard to tell the difference. I compared my iPhone X to a XR and there’s barely any difference.

I went from the X to the XR to the XS. If im honest I think all Iphones are inferior to the Samsung Galaxys however the XR is perfectly decent enough to use. My problem with it is it feels too fat in my hand and it was really bothering me. Other than that the screen seems a bit dull but which is more strain on the eyes? A dull screen or a smaller one?
XR this time around, because you know the XS is going to be surpassed within 6-12 months. Save the quid... AppleCare is also + $50 on the XS models.

The iphone xr has a long battery life than the xs and the camera is same good.

Here in Ireland the Note 9 is the same price on contract as the XR. The fact that people will chose the iPhone over the Note baffles me.
If they used the 3x scaling display from the Plus line rather than the 2x from the regular it would have been pretty ideal. I can notice jagged edges around text on my 7 at 326ppi, but it's significantly smoother to me on the Plus at 401. That's really the main thing stopping me from the Xr (which is already 1K in CAD), I don't want to move laterally from my 7 on PPI. More waiting I guess.
This is why we don’t understand how can somebody justify this for its price tag. But if you think about it, there really is no point to upgrade from an iphone x to xs, so apple had to make the iphone x’s more appealing than the XR
This. I can understand a non-Plus iPhone user justifying the Xr's screen since they are used to 326ppi anyway. But those who claim that there is no perceptible difference between 326ppi vs 400+ppi in an attempt to defend the Xr is deluding themselves.

I got to say I went to the Apple Store and compared the phones and yeah the iPhone XR screen looks okay but if you compare it to the XS screen or even the iPhone 8 plus screen it looks not great , it's okay and if you're alright with that maybe it's the phone to get... but I don't know that's a lot of money for a screen that's just okay.

Get the Xs. I tried the XR and had to return it. The bezels and screen are terrible and it is much thicker than the Xs. I also thought the screen wasn't as bright. Just bite the bullet and it the Xs.
Totally agree, I returned the XR and got an XS. Less bright screen, bad viewing angles, heavier, and thick bezels. Deal Breaker!

Resolution and PPI are not directly relative. 226 PPI has nothing to do with HD. I’m watching this video right now on an X-RAY and 1080 is being scaled down, therefore it looks fine. There are a lot of good videos about screen resolution and PPI as well as scaling. I suggest you review a few of those before you start talking about PPI and screen resolution and knocking on the 326. The screen looks great. It can’t be argued. Stats on a box mean nothing.

@@Thetechchap are you looking at it with a magnifying glass? Normal viewing distance and they are identical. I even compared it side by side to my S8 at max resolution and I prefer the look of the XRs LCD. It was brighter and more color accurate.

The true flagship iphones remain to be the ones with 1000 usd pricing from now on. XR is an overpriced lower quality alternative, luring people with larger display and a 5c-esque appearance for those still seeking tto hold an iphone without spending a grand.
I couldn’t justify paying $750 for the XR when i could pay $250 more to get a superior phone..
To me, the $750 & $1000 price tags are both ridiculously expensive.. but if i was spending that sort of money on a phone, i would rather get the latest and greatest version.
It does have superior display & camera two of which are probably some of the most important features for many users. I couldn’t be happy with paying $750 for an Xr knowing i could’ve paid $250 more and gotten the superior Xs

Did you have any WiFi and network coverage issues? I bought a Xs and had it replaced by a second unit and still keep having very low WiFi download speed and not being able to have a phone call in very low coverage areas.

I am not an Apple fan, but somehow using iPhones since the iPhone 4 > now the iPhone 6 Plus. Liked very much, that it just works without any kind of "problems". I am looking for a new phone, but will definetly have a look outside the Apple world. The price for the prime phone is just insane this time.
One plus 6 and the coming 6t are looking pretty good. Superb hardware with snappy stock android experience for like 500 bucks.

The Xr was never a budget option. Apple didn’t mention such thing. It’s the new base model for iPhones.

I think the screen thing is overrated
I want from the 8 to the Xs Max and I wasn’t blown away. Screen legit looks similar. Retina display is fine.
Have the option to buy an xs with a €200 discount meaning only a €100 difference. The double camera doesn’t bother me but is the screen that much better to make me go to the xs. I’m upgrading from an iPhone 6. Battery is important to and I like the colour options on the xr. So the question is, is the xs screen worth an additional €100.
I would encourage you go to an Apple store and take a look.the iPhone XR, is a nice looking phone and the screen looks okay... maybe just okay but you can definitely tell it's not the sharpest and when you compare it to the XS or even last year's
iPhone 8 + you can see that the XR screen is not the best.
My wife has an Xperia xz2 and although it’s an LCD screen it has 424ppi and the difference is huge. The 326ppi on the iPhone is a serious drawback alright

The resolution for the XR is in-between 1080 and 720. It’s not the same as the iPhone 4s
