    Thanks for another great video. I worked them a bunch of times.

      Congratulations! It's a great island to work. I wish I could have logged them but we can’t get them all. Propagation wasn’t in my favor.

    Hi Doug,
    Was working 20m SSB Feb, 2023 and was trying for a contact to Iceland. Finally made the contact and a few QSO's later heard VY2FU on Prince Edward Island. After he made his contact I asked him to QSY up 10. I needed a confirmation for PEI. He agreed and we had a nice QSO for about 5 minutes. I listened for a few minutes more and he was making more contacts. He emailed me the next day saying he had a pileup for the next 45 minutes and had to cut it short since he needed some sleep for work in the morning. I guess others who were listening also needed PEI. Happy Holidays to you and the family and stay safe. 73 WJ3U

      That’s some good work, Don. And you got a QSO out of it.

    Cool video Doug! I’m going to have to get some ssb dx , I have been cw straight for ~ two years and almost forgot about voice operations.

      CW is my favorite mode, Doug. Easier to work people with lower power. But I also enjoy the challenge of SSB.

      Can’t win them all. Propagation wasn’t kind to me.

    THANK YOU FOR NOT calling split operation as duplex! Those who do only show their ignorance and promote it. Happy Solstice and a Merry New Year

      I’ve never heard anyone refer to split frequency operation as duplex. If I do, I will help them understand the difference. Misinformation abounds among newer operators because more experienced operators don’t “Elmer” like they once did.

      We did. It’s an honor to celebrate the birth of the Christ with family and friends. I hope your Christmas was Merry as well.

    Would be nice if the ftdx10 had a antenna output for a sub receiver.

    • @n4hnhradio
      @n4hnhradio  Месяц назад +1

      It doesn’t. The FTdx101 has an IF out. The FTdx5000 has it. Radios in the price range of the FTdx10 don’t usually include the output for another receiver. The FTdx101 and FTdx5000 already have a sub receiver.

    • @infotoober
      @infotoober Месяц назад +1

      @@n4hnhradio yep, that's my point. the 101 and 5000 already have second receivers. I guess the IF output could be used for a band scope on the 5000.

    • @n4hnhradio
      @n4hnhradio  Месяц назад

      I connected an SDRPLAY to my 5000. I returned it after a few days. It couldn’t receive anywhere near as good as my 5000 receiver could, and it caused the receiver in the 5000 to be degraded, placing extra load on the IF stage. Since waterfalls don’t impress me, it wasn’t worth the tradeoff in receiver performance.

    Hey, had a question was meaning to ask and just remembered it: I am using aluminum poles for my hwef and I was wondering if you think that can effect my tx and rx of my radio? I would love to use carbon based but funds are zero. Of course the wire is not touching the poles and there is a bend in the middle due to property limits but it’s thru a weather resistant plastic pulley. Thoughts?

      I recommend keeping the antenna wire 6-12” away from metal, especially metal that runs parallel to the antenna wire. The same is true for ladder line. Coax can come into contact with metal though, because it’s shielded.
      If your EFHW is made for 40m, you should also be able to use it on 10, 15, and 20m with an acceptable SWR, without an antenna matching unit.

    I have way better luck getting heard by widening my TX to 3050 and not narrowing it.
    I tried the narrow and everyone said I sounded like a 1 watt clock radio.
    3050 I'm told I'm more booming.
    Give it a shot.

    • @n4hnhradio
      @n4hnhradio  20 дней назад

      Maybe that works for you but I won’t compromise power spectral density. And I don’t put trust in other people’s opinions unless I know that they are an expert in audio. But if you are confident in 3050, use it.
      It matters how you set the EQ parameters too. I get stellar audio reports with 300-2700Hz (2.4kHz) bandwidth by adjusting the parametric equalizers and the processor properly. And I don’t compromise power spectral density.

    Spleeeeeet! , I have the Invato Quattro and ham lock is just too slow no matter what I clean up on it. I got a Raapberry PI5 with 8 gigs mem and then added a 512 meg ssd and ham lock runs so nice on it. I am going to make this my radio computer and setup all the digital modes and other software. If anyone has an image with everything on it send me the link please. I am doing so many projects I am lost! Meshtastic , arduino, pi, etc…
