- July 2018 delivered one of the biggest swells ever seen here in Bali. It also dished up the longest ride we've ever filmed at Uluwatu.

Great surfing from the rider, his speed was incredible, good turns and positioning throughout. Props to whoever towed him in too. Perfect.

It’s nice to watch a guy just surfing for fun and not for points. This is how you have the most joy and speed. I haven’t been in the wave this big, but it is so much fun just gaining the speed along the rim of the wave, that is super fun, and then turning back a bit.

Great! You can tell he knew how to read that wave- measuring power/speed, knowing when
he could pull to the bottom and not too tight, looking ahead, no doubt ... like a musician,
playing by feel and reading his chart a few bars ahead. 👍

That surfboard looks pretty fast. I don't know if he could keep ahead of the breaking wave riding a nine foot ten inch board from the 1960s like we used to ride in southern California in those days.

Beautiful, just beautiful... what a wave, and even for Ulu, that doesn't come around that often for sure at any size..... I wonder how big everyone would judge this wave to be? There is always some debate at how big a wave is and how it is judged, especially from area to area. I'll put it out for discussion with my estimate. It appears to be approximately an 8' maybe a 10' swell. I get it, it's almost triple overhead down the line in several places, certainly over 20' peak to trough, but if this wave was on a saturday at Pipe, every guy with experience would say it's an 8 foot day with some bigger sets. On the other hand, this would be a 10-12 foot day at Sunset or Laniakea. Mavericks, maybe 15'? IDK never surfed there... Florida, where I live now, Not a surfer in his right mind would call that wave anything less than 20 plus feet, and that would include Kelly in his younger days I'm pretty sure. This wave at Ulu I would personally call this maybe 15'??? Regardless, I've surfed a lot of waves in my life, and this is one of the best all around waves I've ever seen. I am genuinely jealous dude! Congrats!
I'd say at least 30 ft when it opened up what a wave tho and what a surfer, would have loved to have seen how long the white water swallowed him up for at the end 👍
