  • Toward a Concrete Utopia explores themes of large-scale urbanization, technology in everyday life, consumerism, monuments and memorialization, and the global reach and influence of Yugoslav architecture.
Martino Stierli and Vladimir Kulić examine the architecture that emerged in Yugoslavia in the decades following WWII-from International Style skyscrapers to Brutalist “social condensers”-manifestations of the radical diversity, hybridity, and idealism that characterized the Yugoslav state itself.

Post-war Yugoslavia was vibrant indeed, from high architecture to everyday living.

Stierli is a captivating presenter. A new voice of design expertise who has maintained a healthy sense of humor. Certainly one to come back to for more insights and information.

I'm very familiar with Yugoslavian small arms; They are very nicely redesigned improvements of Soviet designs, it's interesting to see a similar theme in Yugoslavian architecture.
