- Eminem just released a new song called "Houdini", which also serves as the first single for his new album "THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRÂCE)" which is set to drop this summer. In this video I go over the reasons why I am worried about his upcoming album judging from the new single.

Ever since MMLP2 (any maybe recovery) fans have wanted the old eminem which has been an ongoing request for years. I think the death of slim shady is a way to give the fans what they have wanted for so long but in a way that it splits himself into a younger slim and older eminem. This way he's able to tap into his younger self but minimize any backlash for a 50+ years old eminem to be rapping like he was in his late 20s because the whole concept allows it. It's a really genius approach and I could see why he may have spent years making it perfect. I'm not sure what the future may hold for Eminem but I suspect this is a way to close the door on the early SS Em and establish a newer normal for the older Eminem.

I like relapse. That slim shady, the psycho slim shady is awesome. The promo for this new album gives the vibe of the psycho side of Slim Shady from Relapse. I just love the accents. The voice in songs like Stay Wide Awake, Music Box, Things Get Worse, Oh No and so on. It's just pure gold. It would be awesome to see more of that psycho maniac killer from 2009. Loved when he walked around in the Popsomp Hills, the Rehabilitation Center in 3 am killing nurses and then bathing in blood. I really like that occult side of Slim Shady. Doesn't mean I like illuminati, hell no. But I just love Slim Shady.

I dont know if anybody noticed that there is a smooth transition happening in his flow throughout the song. The first verse has his choppy flow (not a fan of) and the last verse flows like water. Listen again and you'll notice how smartly he is doing that. This makes me excited for the album (if we get the old shady flow throughout the record).

I also find it while because Eminem isn't going back to his old songs he's doing a mixture of old sounds with new he's giving his core fan base nostalgia while simultaneously giving listeners something new to experience

I understand your point, and I even agree with it, but to me, it sounds like Em found the perfect method to satisfy fans one last time and deliver something that will make waves in the music world, bringing back Slim Shady one last time and canonically killing him off in his storyline. He brought the new Em from 2009 onwards and it worked, but I believe not as much as he expected, you know? One last album with Slim Shady and then move on. I don't think he will retire, unfortunately. I would like to see that too, but I think he will continue releasing new albums for at least another decade (maybe stopping at 60 years old?).

It’s nostalgia bro. The video pretty much sets the tone for how Slim Shady got back here in current times. I feel like it will be a mix of Marshall, Eminem & Slim Shady with the ultimate goal of killing Slim Shady off for good. But to call anything Eminem does a means to stay relevant really shows me how little you really know about Eminem. The highest selling rapper of all time, multiple diamond certified albums. Ps. There is at least 20 songs on the project with another single featuring Big Sean & Baby Tron that dropped today. I understand the “concern” but come on man, it’s Eminem. A sober much more focused version than relapse or recovery.

This is a funny reaction. 😁 Retirement has been the buzz for Em lately. Anything new he puts out people aren't satisfied. They bitch that they want the old (Shady) Em back. Em is trying to show you that Shady would never make it in this new world, but because he cares about his fans (Stans) that if he's gonna go out, he's going out making his Stan's happy. I'm sure Dre, Jimmy and even his kids told him that bringing Shady back would kill his career. That's why I think at the end Dre gets out the car. Dre doesn't want to be around to watch it happen. And Pete Davidson (who represents the Stan's) is now driving Em's career. The Stan's brought him into this world, I guess the Stan's will take him out. Em's future is now in the hands of the Stan's. It's a valid point, even if a little naive. You can't please everyone after all and everyone has a right to have an opinion.
Me, being an old fart, music enjoyer and a long time gamer, I can't help but notice certain trends and make some connections. This is the most noticable in gaming novadays - remakes of old hits do astoundingly well (if made right ofc, no one wants another warcraft 3 reforged). Simply by the merrit of the fact that they were good games compared to modern "products", that were made more by the financial department of the company, rather than developers. So it can simply be a case of trying to revive the "old way".
Music is the same, even if less noticable, and in my eyes, Houdini is a commentary on that, amongst other things. Especially the cypher sceene, where 3 old timers show up and rather than a cypher they get a tiktok exhibition.
Plus it seems MM is tired enough - same as a growing number of people, with the modern society, which can be described as an "opperssion from the moral high horse" with it's PC, SJW, radicalization of opinions and silence of the moderates - to say something about it. And who better to shock the public with some hard truths than Shady with his foul mouth.
Plus I can't help but wonder if MM needs the relevance, he's supposedly chasing with this single/album. The dude has nothing left to prove pretty much. So why bother? Especially since he doesn't seem like a guy who blew his assumingly ginormous fortune on drugs and toys.
Ofc it can be the last fanservice to his oldest fans before retireing, which would also be hard to blame him for.

Its been 4 years since a legitimate studio album and he puts out corny lyrics and a pop beat! Why couldn't he actually rap on a beat that doesnt have any 80s samples involved and go over a beat thats brand new produced by Dre?! Lets not forget when Eminem puts out horrible albums like Revival after 4 year period. So i am worried about this album because he generally hasnt put out a great album in a decade.

I think you may be looking at this single the wrong way. He's cleary breaking the 4th wall here, and i think its to give homage to his career.
