We want to give a big shout out to ROBERT for sponsoring this video (not Richard as we mentioned in the video). Thanks for getting Rush back onto the channel Rob!
It's awesome of you guys to give him a shout out! It goes a long way with people. Aimee came from a band called Til Tuesday. Check out their song Hush Hush.
THANKS ROBERT!!! Butt WHAT ⁉️ Never heard of Aimee Mann⁉️ How about the song VOICES CARRY by Til Tuesday from which she was the singer before going solo! Also she did the soundtrack for the movie 🍿🎥 MAGNOLIA. From which a couple singles came; SAVE ME and the Three Dog Night cover "ONE"!!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸
This era of Rush (and this album in particular, Hold Your Fire) is very contentious among their fans. For many of us who came to Rush from this period, well, there was brilliance in this music that drew us in the first place. If I'm not mistaken, I think Aimee Mann is the only guest vocalist (even in a background role) to sing on a Rush album. She's definitely a talent herself!
That's correct. They never had another guest vocalist, before or since. There was one other guest instrumentalist I can find in album credits, and that was Ben Mink, who played violin on "Losing It".
First time I saw RUSH was in 1976 in New Jersey opening for Foghat. I admit that I struggled a little in the "keyboard era" with the band, but have really come to appreciate it. This is one of my favorite songs from Hold Your Fire.
Great Reaction Sam & Phil! This was a very pleasant surprise! So Thank You Robert! I still listen to Time Stands Still and Til Tuesdays Coming Up Close to this day! Also bought the Music Video on iTunes of Coming Up Close! As for Aimee Mann she’s still touring!🎸🤘🙏🏻
Aimee Mann from the group Til Tuesday and their biggest hit (maybe only?) VOICES CARRY and she went solo and has a TON of great stuff and sweet voice!! She did the soundtrack to the movie 🍿🎥 MAGNOLIA and two singles SAVE ME and the Three Dog Night cover "ONE"!! Great Reaction Bars! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸
After the passing of Neil (R.I.P.) the US Army band pays tribute to him with this song, Time Stands Still…. It’s such a touching tribute but bring your tissues… Great reaction and review, long live the mighty Rush 👊🏻
Hey Guys; "Limelight, Tom Sawyer, Spirit of the Radio and Freewill " are some bangers form RUSH you should be checking out. Also the female vocalist in this video is Aimee Mann of "Til Tuesday", another great band to check out.
This was a really good song. I was in highschool at this time. This was not real long after Aimee Mann had her hit song with Til Tuesday called Voices Carry. Love it all!!! Such great memories!!! Thanks and GREAT REACTION as usual guys!!! Love it!!!! CHEERS 🍻🤟👏!
I enjoy that Rush songs, that are part socal commentary, are still valid today. "Time Stand Still" is a good example, of a song that will be timeless. Every time I watch this video I'm blown away. I worked for the CBC for 35 years starting in 79. The video, from what I've found came out in 87. It's possible that Digital Video Effects (DVE) equipment was availabe in the late 80, but our station didn't get any until the early 90s. Without a DVE, Getty, Alex, and Neil would have been individually shot against a green screen, and recorded on tape. The motion of each person on their layer, moving around on the screen would have been done by the camera person panning, tilting, and zooming in and out, to get the motion effects we see. Then layered up by playing back the pieces through a switcher to a recording VTR. Make a mistake, and a lot will have to be done over again. I'd love to know if there was any early DVE gear back then in Red Wood City for example, because the planning and work to make this video just boggles the mind, otherwise.
As always guys 🔥 I discovered Rush in the late 70s when I was in HS from my friends. As the years passed Rush went into different paths but I always enjoyed the sound they produced.... RIP The Professor
Aimee Mann was the lead singer of the '80s band 'Til Tuesday. They had a massive hit in the mid-80s' called 'Voices Carry" that is worth a reaction; it's haunting. You are correct that '80s Rush tended to sound more 'pop' (for them) and that the lyrics were more personal and introspective. Some fans disdained the '"synth era" of Rush, but I really like it (probably because I was a child in the '80s and like synth pop generally). This video is all sorts of cheesy but I think Geddy really hit his stride vocally during the mid-80s. You mention that they look young; I think they 33-34 years old here. For a future reaction with a similar introspective feeling, I suggest the lyric video to Rush's 'Open Secrets.' I don't think they performed it live, but it is a really beautiful song and one of my personal favorites in their entire catalog.
Great to see your appreciation for this!! Definitely recommend "Mission" off this Hold Your Fire album!! Epic song. And Aimee Mann, who was in Til Tuesday in the 80s, and to this day a continued solo career!!!
Aimee Mann, female singer from group Til Tuesday. Had a couple of top ,30 hits in the mid 80s, "Voices Carry" and "What About Love". Yes, technology has changed a lot in 30 years! 😊
Aimee Man is a bass player in the band Til Tuesday,a close friend of Geddy. Neil’s whole kit is in the video which I love. Believe me he is using so many elements of that monster kit. So musical. But listen close to the bass playing from Geddy on this track and this whole album! This season of RUSH was when I first started going to their shows,so it’s very special to me. I love that they progressed thru so many styles and genres. Makes EVERYTHING they did that much more special because they did it their way. 🤘❤️😊
Another song I highly recommend is The Garden, as performed on the Clockwork Angels Tour video; it was the last song on their last album, and the lyrics carry an especially poignant message about the passage of time and the importance of leaving a lasting legacy, just like Rush did. Have a beautiful evening, and Rush on! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Never heard this before. If they didn't tell me it was Rush, who were never big in Australia and I was never familiar with, I would have thought it was Crowded House.
Although this song is indeed a departure from Rush’s prior progressive musical style, I absolutely adore this song. From the music, to the message to Aimee Mann’s iconic chorus, it’s one of my favorite Rush songs. Great reaction!
I Love Rush and the song Time Stand Still but WOW watching all the moving going on in the video got me dizzy, maybe because I am 73 and had a stroke years ago and I get dizzy easy. Thank you guys for your reaction to this great song and all your reactions and I have been watching you both for awile so keep up your great reactions videos
Rush was always recreating their sound. They would go through a period of three or four albums and then switch. Back in the early days, they would release a live album in between so you knew a change was coming. You should check out their last couple of albums where they got really heavy. Maybe try the song BU2B.
This the the ultimate example of living in the moment. If you have never lived a time where 7t was so good you didn't want it to end you haven't lived.
Great song... Dreadful video! The US Army band did an excellent, moving cover to this, as a tribute to Neil, on his passing away. That's worth a watch.
Been a huge Rush fan since I first heard 2112. It was a mind altering experience and showed me how much meaning and story could be put into music. Throughout high school (graduated in 1981) Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures that made up a lot of the radio airwaves and my own LP and personal Playlist. I was lucky enough to see them in concert numerous times over the years and was never disappointed. My favorite concert was in 2013 when my younger sister treated me to possibly the best birthday gift ever, tickets to see Rush and to have her by my side. Watching her reactions to the musicianship and magnificence of the legends themselves was priceless. Her comment on the crowd's reactions to Neil is legendary in my mind ("I've never seen so many air drummers!") I was so glad I was able to see Rush that one last time, which segues into a video tribute to Neil made by the US Army Band of "Time Stands Still". You absolutely must watch this. So to finalize my thoughts, Thank You to Rush for all the great music over the years and keep rocking everyone!
Great tune from the guys! Started listening to Rush on Fly By Night album! Much to the chagrin of my parents! Was fortunate enough to see them play 13 times over the years. My favorite band!
Aimee Mann is the guest singer from her band 'Til Tuesday who had a great hit song called "voices carry", I definitely know you both would love that song...BTW RUSH RULES😂😂
Love this song, sadly although seeing Rush live a bunch of times Aimee has always just been a tape when they played this. 'The Enemy Within' next perhaps. Cheers.
The cover version of this from the US Army band is absolutely incredible. I actually think it’s a better version of this song. I saw it right after Neil died and it made me cry like a baby.
Ex Pat Canadian saying I Love you guys and the way you analyse all music. Rush I saw in my high school pre Neil Peart and you knew the were going places
Neil Peart: ‘ I could play this fill like 1 or 2 different ways like most drummers, but instead I think I”ll memorize 57 different ways to play to keep it more interesting…’
This is a lovely song with thoughtful bittersweet lyrics. Ignoring the travesty of Geddy's hairstyle, the goofy graphics have a sort of campy charm. Someone got a new video effects computer, LOL.
When you get tired of all the political crap and lies thrown at us every day, take a look at how some great military performers treat this song, Time Stand Still, by Neil Peart of RUSH: ruclips.net/video/aAPSK_cV5n0/видео.html Thx, Sam & Phil!

The US Army band ( Pershing 's Own ) did a cover of this song as a tribute to Neal Peart. It's really well done & a unique take.
Was gonna suggest that one too. It's an outstanding version
@@kenkonwick6660 it's such a beautiful tribute.
ruclips.net/video/aAPSK_cV5n0/видео.htmlsi=ZX5gEhzc0WW9FCXp yes!!
Definitely hit Aimee Mann’s first band Til’ Tuesday. Especially “Voices Carry” and “Coming up Close”

I absolutely love Time Stand Still.. sounds so reflective, nostalgic and it just makes me feel good.
Been a RUSH fan for over 40 years and oddly only recently listened to this. Its become a favorite. Something strangely soothing about it.
This is my favorite song by Rush! It has such incredible lyrics, they get more meaningful the older I get.
We were so young then. 😢
Aimee Mann is the female singer from Til Tuesday
Great Reaction Sam & Phil!

Fabulous song, best enjoyed without the atrocious accompanying video.

The 80s were the best times to go to concerts. Cheap tickets and great times .

Yes indeed, as so many others have stated "Voices Carry" is a must

anything that has Aimee Mann in it is truly priceless! and she has crafted and wrote some of the most poetically beautiful songs i ever listened to!

Part II 😁 So I mentioned a little Aimee Mann history, if you actually heard none of those then I highly recommend;
VOICES CARRY
SAVE ME and

There is so much Canadiana in Canada.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend to everyone 🇨🇦✝️

Aimee Mann is a great singer. I recommend the song 'One' from the "Magnolia" movie.
Time Stand Still is Timeless, Mystic Rhythms is another Timeless Rush Song
Great song! My favorite is Red Sector A off Grace Under Pressure, I hope you react to it, thank you.
Check out the US army band version of this song. Pershing's Army. Totally different emotion with vocals and orchestra
Great song... Dreadful video!

This is the Rush “screen saver” video.
Guys- they weren't younger here--this came out in the later 80's . The band started in the eary/mid 70's. They all had long hair back then. T
Great tune from the guys! Started listening to Rush on Fly By Night album! Much to the chagrin of my parents! Was fortunate enough to see them play 13 times over the years. My favorite band!

You kids should check out the live version. Just sayin.
Love this song! Might be just because I'm getting older. But this relates. Thanks for reacting!
The blonde female is the singer of New wave band Till Tuesday Aimee Mann. 1982 1988..
Ex Pat Canadian saying I Love you guys and the way you analyse all music. Rush I saw in my high school pre Neil Peart and you knew the were going places
Aimee Mann has a great song called Voices Carry with the band 'Til Tuesday.
Fucking awesome tour!
By-Tor And the Snow Dog is one you guys will really dig. Especially Sam because it rocks and there’s some great drumming in it.
Such a great introspective song.
Amazing song!!!
More Rush! Enemy Within is a great one.
Flippin KRANK IT! #3 1987. Please react to Ozzy - I Don't Know & Diary of a Madman.
Yes. This song perfectly illustrates the WORST from Rush.
Richard , I hope the best for you and better judgement moving forward.
pretty sure this video editing / green screen technique was very new, and they capitalized on the concept. Must have been big budget for 1987.
Please react to Jay and the Americans crying. Also this Magic moment!
❤
Have to do "Voices Carry" then.
Hahaha, that's irony for you ; it's been a long time since doing RUSH... no rush for Rush, lol.
their later stuff, like this, is not my fav BUT its still good compared to most others
Kind of reminds me of a cars type video!!
Neil Peart is….The GOAT!!! In MY Opinion!!!👍
👍
You guys need something in the background, looks bla ☝️😁
Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones only had 4 drums on his kit throughout his carrier , im just saying
Charlie admired Neil's playing, and they met at the sars festival in Toronto.
You need to react to Morris days Jungle Love as well as Steve Miller's Jungle Love . They are 2 different songs
Benson Boone
Great song, but that video makes me cringe everytime i see it! Ugghhh!
Google Carl Palmer ❤️✌🏼
Love the song and the message. Always hated the video (cheesy).
When you get tired of all the political crap and lies thrown at us every day, take a look at how some great military performers treat this song, Time Stand Still, by Neil Peart of RUSH: ruclips.net/video/aAPSK_cV5n0/видео.html Thx, Sam & Phil!
This is a great song, but the video was a not so good. Its SOOOO 80's.
The video stunk and very distracting even as many times as I have seen and heard the song.
I did not like this or many of their songs that came after this.
RUSH totally lost their edge.
