As a History student myself, I feel really sad that in Indian History, Peshwa Bajirao 1 was never considered as a major personality where there should be a detail description about him. His life should be taught to children as he is easily one of the greatest Indian personalities ever born. His and his brother Chimaji Appa's death in the same year, completely spoiled the whole strategy and within 25 years after his death, India saw one of the bloodiest battles, Third Battle Of Panipat, which completely opened the road for British to rule India. We as Indians should be proud of him for his achievements and the dream he saw which was for entire India.
Unfortunately, I was also prey of that generation where history books mainly included medieval period and mughals achievements. Barely few pages on Ancient India which included likes of Nanda empire (cruel emperor but a strong one), Mauraya empire, Gupta empire etc. Marathas history mostly just imcluded 3rd battle of panipat. Great warriors and leader personally like Maharana Pratap and Chattrapati Shivaj were consider mere nussiance to the great Mighty Mughals empire(how the books portrayed them even tho there rule was only 200yrs in which Abkar was the only impressive and tolerant leader). And not even a mention of great strategist Peshwa Balajirao. Nothing about great empires of the south (VIjayanagar empire, Chola empire) or even freedom fighters like Subhash chandra bose or Bhagat singh. It was clearly a scheme of britishers intially to axe our culture and make us believe were slaves thruout our existence and later Congress party for vote bank politics and to only glorify Mahatma Ghandhi and Nehru barely even mention of the man who united whole India Sardar Vallabh Patel!! I guess now history is rewritten in the right way under BJP's rule hopefully the future generations will learn to love there country and culture instead of loving western influences.

Indian history before Shivaji's advent reads like a chronicle of military disasters. Shivaji changed all that. He used Guerilla Tactics very effectively. Shivaji, as a great warrior & visionary laid a strong and solid foundation that after his death in 1680, there was a series of battles fought between Marathas and Mughals from 1681 to 1707 known as 'War of 27 years' and ended with the death of Aurangzeb in 1707. The Marathas eventually emerged victorious and consolidated their lost territories. This was further expanded by the Peshwas. The Maratha empire reached its peak in summer of 1758 with the conquest of Attock, which is banks of Indus river in Pakistan today. Its eastern frontier was today’s Orissa, being ruled by Raghuji Bhosale of Nagpur. Maratha armies had also reached upto Murshidabad, but then retreated and settled for tribute from Bengal and control of Orissa. To the south, in 1758, territories upto the fort of Gurramkonda in Kadappah district were held. Also, Tanjore (Thanjavur) was under Marathas, but that was a different line. In 1761, the PANIPAT war was lost to the Afghans but Marathas RECOVERED quickly like phoenix bird within 10 years and brought the whole of North Indian again under their control during the 1770's under leadership of Madhavrao Peshwa.. Eventually, the Marathas grew stronger and fought the British in three Anglo-Maratha Wars (1775-82, 1803-05, 1817-18), In the First Anglo-Maratha War (1775-1782) the Marathas emerged Victorious. India's military wasn't never a disaster before 1100AD we had maurya empire nanda empire gupta dynasty all these kept several invaders at bay including Alexander the Great. The reason Alexander's army mutiny was because if the info they had about vast Nanda empire military strength. After end of Gupta dynasty sadly unified solid kingdom didnt exist and therefore investment in war technology was minimal by small states as it cause a lot of money therefore we were beat due to inferior weapons, cavalry and also numbers in Rajput era except Maharana Pratap ofcourse who started the Guerrilla war tactics. After 100 years Shivaji did the same. Its the british and congress that purposely left our ancient India achievements, superior economy then rest of the world. We are only taught from an era where Rajputs started to lose but noone knows that we held them at bay from 300 BCE to 1100AD.
Your argument seems the same as taught by british historians. We Indians had successfully resisted foreign occupation for thousands of years. Do you know during kushan rule, all high govt posts were reserved for kushans and Greeks. Then Gupta empire came after many years of foreign occupation of North India. In one sweep they destroyed Kushans, Scythians. Later the hunas after ruling a good portion of India met the same fate. Then sultani empire came. Again a reaction was found in Vijayanagara. But it was not much successful. After that mughals came. This time Marathas turned the tables. This goes on in Indian history.

As Chatrapati Shahi Maharaj made Bajirao Balal Bhat Peshwa, same way Peshwa Baji Rao made Shri Ranoji Shinde Sarsenapati (Commander In Chief ) of his army. Baji Rao Peshwa won Delhi and went back to Pune and could never make it again to Delhi because of his uncertain death.

Indian history before Shivaji's advent reads like a chronicle of military disasters. Shivaji changed all that. He used Guerilla Tactics very effectively. Shivaji, as a great warrior & visionary laid a strong and solid foundation that after his death in 1680, there was a series of battles fought between Marathas and Mughals from 1681 to 1707 known as 'War of 27 years' and ended with the death of Aurangzeb in 1707. The Marathas eventually emerged victorious and consolidated their lost territories. This was further expanded by the Peshwas. The Maratha empire reached its peak in summer of 1758 with the conquest of Attock, which is banks of Indus river in Pakistan today. Its eastern frontier was today’s Orissa, being ruled by Raghuji Bhosale of Nagpur. Maratha armies had also reached upto Murshidabad, but then retreated and settled for tribute from Bengal and control of Orissa. To the south, in 1758, territories upto the fort of Gurramkonda in Kadappah district were held. Also, Tanjore (Thanjavur) was under Marathas, but that was a different line. In 1761, the PANIPAT war was lost to the Afghans but Marathas RECOVERED quickly like phoenix bird within 10 years and brought the whole of North Indian again under their control during the 1770's under leadership of Madhavrao Peshwa..
Eventually, the Marathas grew stronger and fought the British in three Anglo-Maratha Wars (1775-82, 1803-05, 1817-18), In the First Anglo-Maratha War (1775-1782) the Marathas emerged Victorious. A Vijay Stambh (Victory Pillar) erected to commemorate Maratha victory over British is located at Vadgaon/Wadgaon Maval, close to the city of Pune. The 2nd and 3rd were subsequently lost and British established themselves which was followed by the Uprising of 1857 .

India's military wasn't never a disaster before 1100AD we had maurya empire nanda empire gupta dynasty all these kept several invaders at bay including Alexander the Great. The reason Alexander's army mutiny was because if the info they had about vast Nanda empire military strength. After end of Gupta dynasty sadly unified solid kingdom didnt exist and therefore investment in war technology was minimal by small states as it cause a lot of money therefore we were beat due to inferior weapons, cavalry and also numbers in Rajput era except Maharana Pratap ofcourse who started the Guerrilla war tactics. After 100 years Shivaji did the same. Its the british and congress that purposely left our ancient India achievements, superior economy then rest of the world. We are only taught from an era where Rajputs started to lose but noone knows that we held them at bay from 300 BCE to 1100AD.
Your argument seems the same as taught by british historians. We Indians had successfully resisted foreign occupation for thousands of years. Do you know during kushan rule, all high govt posts were reserved for kushans and Greeks. Then Gupta empire came after many years of foreign occupation of North India. In one sweep they destroyed Kushans, Scythians. Later the hunas after ruling a good portion of India met the same fate. Then sultani empire came. Again a reaction was found in Vijayanagara. But it was not much successful. After that mughals came. This time Marathas turned the tables. This goes on in Indian history.
