This is actually one of the most important things in advanced table tennis. If you are playing against an advanced player, blocking the ball is a very a high risk because he will finish the point with a loop, unless you made a very well placed block. You will never be able to compete in advanced table tennis without learning the counter topspin.
Thank you very much, Paul Drinkhall and Tom Lodziak!!! A very necessary and important lesson. It would be nice if you did a lesson on how to hit the ball correctly after bouncing off long spikes.
Hi Tom!! Could you do a series of videos on Double game? Like Movement, Positioning, Strategy, Tactics etc.. There's hardly any content on the doubles game on RUclips.
Congrats to the success of your channel! I used to play against you (and win). Pretty sure that you would beat me now in straight sets and with me being lucky to get 10 points!
Excellent video, great tips from Paul and Tom, they make it look easy but from my experience is it isn't, albeit it is satisfying when executing well this counter hit. Thanks guys keep the videos coming.
It depends on your playing style. If you are defensive and like to chop, then chopping is an option. For me, I would block or try to counter topspin, as this suits my playing style. If I tried to chop, it would probably go horribly wrong.
@@TomLodziak Gotcha! Thanks. So it's mostly a personal choice. I imagine other persons would also have a complete palette of chops/blocks/countertops and use them opportunistically depending on the context...
Maybe it's just me but if Tom has professional Paul Drinkhall in for filming, I'd prefer he go over some shots & tactics. Something more advanced we can learn from him. It'd be a waste of a valuable resource to ask a pro something like "how do you hold a bat?" For shakehand grip, click here. bit.ly/2MFojoG
Nope, this is actually a great video if you want to do a NEAR TABLE counter top spin to surprise your opponent. But you are right that people should be aware that counter topspins are more often used away from the table (as can be seen in most professional matches).
Really appreciate the multiple camera angles and the slow-mo shots. Thank you so much!!

So true. I've always considered this a high control shot. Though it looks simple, doing it well is tough!
@@Technical.Table.Tennis what's difficult about it?
@@seraca the timing and control of the ball mainly
This is the best tip so far. Your chanel is amazing, a huge thanks from Sweden.
Thank you Tom, got the answer I've been looking recently. Simple but effective !
Paul Drinkhall did it easily, nice !

Ahh was hoping for the backhand demo as well.
good lesson. Thank you!
Great vid, well explained.

Ok. I'll think about how to do this. I have added to my list!

Here it is! ruclips.net/video/SjJ49BXh5Mk/видео.html
Hi Tom, love your videos. When your opponent top spins, what makes you decide between counter-topping and chopping?

A common shot... But might be helpful sometimes🤔😅
tough shot, only really possible if the incoming ball is somewhat slow or in a high arch. anyway .. i always think of zuckarm
Great tips tq.. My biggest probĺem though is to counter slower and more spinny top spins. Very hard to do
timing is important for hitting those shots.. 🏓🏐
The key for slow and spinny topspins, is to close bat angle more and contact the ball soon after the bounce.
I had same question.. My opponent open my serve with topspin which is near the net and the forehand side... I can only pick that late

But ,how to return it when opponent play extra high slow topspin and ball bounce too high?
This shot will definitely work against those kinds of topspins. You just need to close bat angle a bit more and contact quite soon after the bounce.
Please make a video where ever shots
it looks so easy and natural when paul does it ... 😔
Ha! Yes. A life time of practice! It really is a wonderful shot if you can do it.

Can you make a video of exactly that but for the backhand?
Good idea. I'll add to my list.
@@TomLodziak that would be great because I can imagine it’s very difficult and really requires guidance. Thanks!
