In my experience I've been using andis masters and wahl clippers for over 12 years and after so many uses i've learned not to get to technical when it comes to the number on the guards, for instance the half guard for wahls (grey guard) is labeled as 1/16 while the purple andis 0 guard (the OG one) is also labeled as 1/16 but using each of them respectively in closed position they cut a different length. I feel like different clipper companies label their sizing differently which can be confusing if you are using different clipper brands together. For those of you that may be starting out i would say its easier for you to use a guard system (any clipper brand) and stick to it, you'll understand how each guard blend into each other and when you gain experience you'll learn how to comfortably flick your wrist while blending fades and be able to skip guards etc.
Great video with clear simple explanations question, I recently got an Andis and it came with a “blending” guard. How/When would I use it during a fade? Thanks!
So when I’m using a 1.5 guard closed it’s 1.5 then it becomes a 2.0 half way open, and a 2.5 fully open? I’m asking because I need to blend between 1.5 and 2.0 and I’m not sure if I should be fully opening or only half opening the lever since it changes it by 1.0 fully open, and I’m not sure if that translates to when using guards. This topic is discussed a lot for Wahl, but not Andis and I’m unsure if it translates as easily as the Andis open more.
Imagine the no guard closed is a 0 and the fully open is a half. All the way open isn’t really a 1 guard it’s shorter….use your 0 guard open as if it was a “1” and use your 1 guard open as if it was a “1.5” guard. Use your 0 guard, open half way closed after your no guard open and then your 1 guard open and half way and if you have too fully close the 1 guard.
Hi and thanks for your question. I unfortunately don't know the answer to this. I would suggest if you're planning to buy them go to a barber supplier to check if they would fit the clipper that you're interested in. I do know though that they work with the Andis Masters both corded and cordless versions.
I have this whole clipper and guard set but I still don't understand why the 0 guard is called a 0 guard when it doesn't match the 0 on the clipper itself.......
Hi I like to shave my beard with my Andis Master with the bail arm at full length. How ever it is too short. Do you think using a guard on the master would still give an even cut on. If not could you recommend the best clipper for shaving a beard on say a number 2 or 2.5 . Thank you
Yeah use your guards if it’s cutting too short. The fully open isn’t exactly a 1 it’s a bit shorter. Your guards will still leave an even cut. Use your 2 guard open for a 2.5 or closed for a 2. And so on and so on with a higher guard number
@@thedanwriter1 those are honestly useless bro, use your 0 guard open as if it was a “1” and use your 1 guard open as if it was a “1.5” guard. Use your 0 guard, open half way closed after your no guard open and then your 1 guard open and half way and if you have too fully close the 1 guard.
@@Massproduce201 the way I fade is, bald line, and then the no guard open, fade that out using your lever, and then I use the 0 andis guard not the 0.5 andis guard you can buy that one doesn’t work. With the 0 andis fully open I make another guideline and then blend it out with the lever, and then I use the 1 open another guideline and blend it with the lever if I have too I use the corners of the 0 guard open to clean up dark spots and stuff but after that I use the 2 open and so on and so on. By blend it out with the lever I mean close, almost fully closed half way almost all the way open and fully open. Like the knotches some clippers have on the clicks! For my 1 fades I use the 0 guard open as if it was the 1 guard closed, then use the 1 after and so on and so on. Hope this helps
To me its the easiest guard system and most efficient. The #1 guard blends into the #2 pretty easily you just have to flick a bit. The 0 guard closed can flick into the #1 guard closed pretty easily as well. Once you do that the fade is basically done all you gotta do is detail or use no guard and corner cut to take out any dark spots
No guard open is not a 1. A 1 is 3mm. No guard open is 2.4mm. A half guard (0 in Andis) is 1.5mm. The misconception of clippers ‘opening to a 1’ came from the fact that a 1 detachable blade = 2.4mm a 1 blade, NOT a 1 guard.
This actually helps me! As a barber who's only ever used Wahl, it is really confusing to try to figure out if Andis no guard open is a 1, how is it that not all the guards above that it works the same? (E.g. 0 guard all the way open is 1.5, 1 guard all the way open is a 2, etc.) This comment made it all come clear. 👍🏼👍🏼
Well done that was so precise and straight to the point exactly what I was looking for
3yrs later.. still highly useful! The blend between open and close from 0 to 1 was exactly what I needed. Thanks! 👊🏾
This answered the question I’ve been looking 20 minutes for. Earned sub
Just got yourself a new member sir thanks I needed this.
Thanks Adrian !
This information is exactly what I needed. Much appreciation.

Is it the same on Oster's fast feed/pro power with andis guards?
I'm not sure bro as I haven't used those clippers personally so I wouldn't want to give you false information.
God bless this tutorial 🔥🔥🔥 Much love man!

Hey man how are you able to close the andis masters all the way to the 5 lever position mines only allows me to go up to the fourth
Would it be the same steps if we would zero gap the andis masters?
Yes I did follow the same steps with my Masters zero gapped.
Question, the purple double magnetic guards , what other Andis clippers does it fit

These Double Magnetic guards also fit Oster Fastfeed and and Stewart by Oster Clipper Blades.
can i use this with any clipper ?
Thank u so much I have learnt a lot in 5mins
Excellent video. Cheers!
Best explamation so far
Perfect man, this was what I was looking for :) Thanks!
Really appreciate it, mate!!! Well done. Where can we find the Wahl guards Video?? You upload it?? Can not find...🙏🔝💈✂️🔥
Bro I need a the clippers how shuld i get. Ind
What length would it be if you had a 1 guard with lever open?
open blade on andis is a 1, a 1 guard is a one, 1 + 1 = 2🤘🏼
Ay where did u get that 1st gen 0 guard from andis
Lmk if you ever find out please
Not a 1st gen
Do these guards fit the t-outliner models tho??
Not the T-Outliner trimmer.
@@razrsharpuk figured! Thanks alot
video starts at 1:11
Thanks lol
Do these guards fit wahl magic clippers?
No they don’t bro unless you get a blade conversion kit that lets put Andis blades on Wahl clippers.
If I have on my 0.0 guard on & if I put the lever halfway does that make it 0.5?
makes it a 1, .5 + .5 = 1🤘🏼
@@bennyscissorhands6477?? Huh
@@hungnikecmon maaan, one half plus one half equals a whole, a half guard open half way (on the masters) is a one
Do these .5,and 1.5 guards fit any Andis model?
They fit standard Andis clippers like the Masters but not detachable Andis blade clippers like the Supra ZR.
Does Wahl guards work on Amdis Masters
No mate
I have this whole clipper and guard set but I still don't understand why the 0 guard is called a 0 guard when it doesn't match the 0 on the clipper itself.......
The only guess I can make is that Andis have done this to be different from other brands who refer to this guard as 0.5.
What guards you use or do those come with the clippers?
I use the Andis double magnet guards. The Masters don’t come with any guards in the box.
Great Video!👍🏽💯
Really helpful
Thanks bro!!!!
Andis does offer a decent 1 1/2 guard now
where do you get these guards?
Amazon

Bruv. Ain’t the 0 guard closed shorter then the no guard open?? The next step should be 0 3/4 open.
Kinda look like pastor Michael Todd 😻
Andis guards are STILL technically confusing… No guard OPEN = #1 AND 0 guard open = #1 as well as 1 guard closed… 😐
If you use the Zero on fucking 1 half I'm gonna flip the fuck out if your using the masters😂 cause they are useless but let's see what you doing

Why did andis make this shit so complicated
Literally the easiest fading method
