I have been to two different zoo's in Japan, and both made me cry. What was really heart wrenching was seeing a polar bear at an aquarium in Yokohama. The enclosure was entirely indoors, and the land space was tiny. It is really sad seeing larger animals kept in such confined spaces, I wish there was more we could do to make these experiences accessible to people, especially those who may never have to opportunity to travel... It would just be nice if the same consideration of the animals welfare could be given as well... Thanks for another lovely vlog, and presenting this issue in a personal way :)

That zoo looked horrible. I agree that the cages were way too small and from what I saw in the video the animals didn't have any enrichment or natural elements in the enclosures, just dirt and concrete. :( It's so sad that zoos like that can stay open and that this zoo can damage the reputation of zoos as a whole. I majored in exotic animal husbandry in college and had the chance to tour some zoos and the U.S. also has places like this and some that are much worse. I've seen some terrible places but the zoo where I live is always voted one of the best in the United States and they do an amazing job in general! Hope this zoo either gets it's shit together or they close and send the animals to better places so they can live happier lives.

Katelyn Whaley I went to NCTA (Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture). It's a small College but they are known for their amazing Veterinary Technology program and hands-on learning. I originally started as a vet tech major but switched over to animal husbandry with an emphasis in exotics and animal care since it suited my interests. I was a member of Safari Club there and that's how I got the chance to visit so many zoos and wildlife centers.
When they visited that zoo I also thought about the Omaha Zoo and how much effort they put into it! I'm pretty sure just the desert dome part is bigger than the entirety of that zoo......
yokonamigaara yea I find myself comparing every zoo I visit to The Henry Doorly Zoo haha. It's hard to understand why some zoos seem to put zero effort into the well-being of their animals and never upgrade anything....and then you have a zoo like the one in Omaha that is already one of the best zoos in the world and they are still constantly looking for things to improve..... probably has to do with finances but if any zoo can't even give the animals proper housing it may be time to think about what's best and find them new homes in other zoos.

Just got a Canon EOS 80D last weekend, one of the things that made me go that direction was your videos as they show off the range of the camera well. How much of this video was with the G7 X Power Shot? I am assuming much of the Duncan Cam was. Anyway - I actually like this flavor of video, even with all the salt and garbage... but not 20 minutes, darn!
I recently went to Ueno Zoo, but also ended up feeling slightly depressed after. Though it wasn't half as bad as this Himeji one looked. I think I'll just stick to safaris where it's the people in cages. Himeji castle looked beautiful!
I had no motivation to study for my Japanese exam today(this exam decides if I get a scholarship to study in Tokyo next year) but this video reminded me how beautiful Japan is and how bad I want to go! Time to hit the Genki books!
