Before I knew who the blackened would be I kind of assumed Eva stayed in the basement due to everyone excluding her. But knowing now it’s kind of crazy that it was foreshadowing her ties to Wolfgang’s death. To think you’ve been bugging her throughout her plotting is kind of silly.
I would've said that she should've gone after Wenona... Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, since she had a motive to kill her (By exposing Eva's secret, Wenona had basically turned her into a laughing stock to everyone apart from Diana), they'd pick up on that right away.
@@fierytigergaming8112 even if she did want to go after Wenona, Wolfgang would still be so much more of a threat by virtue of probably being the only person there that has had experience working through a murder
Pretty easy to think that, since Miss Skank pretty much painted a target on Eva's back by outing her as the Ultimate Mathlete, despite her hating the talent (As evident from 98% of her sprites being either miserable, or insecure)
she actually seems like such a cool person?? shes nerdy but like, the fun nerdy. yet shes glossed over so much throughout the entirety of her life. i feel so bad shes just a wet little cat can everyone just leave her alone 😢😢
Yeah, it was really frustrating to watch her get bullied. Like, yeah, she brought suspicion onto herself by lying about her talent, but it all stemmed from a place of fear and insecurity. She didn't do it to hurt anyone 😔 One of the reasons I love these FTEs so much is because we get to see how Damon and Eva's friendship deepens _despite_ this revelation. At first, he's mostly just curious why an ultimate would resent their talent so much (enough to hide it from the group in such a dangerous situation). To him, even if he thinks most ultimates have niche talents that won't change the world, he'd still expect them to at least wear their titles with pride. If for no other reason than to satisfy their ego. Since the two are already close, Eva indulges his curiosity, and explains that she felt it misrepresented who she was and what she did. To her, all getting her title accomplished was boxing her in with preconceived notions and a false image of her actual interests and pursuits (in essence, sabatoging her career prospects and desire to make a meaningful impact in the world). But Damon doesn't really understand this at first. To him, it's natural Eva's papers wouldn't be recognized by literary critics, since her talent isn't related to that field. But in saying this, he ends up, ironically, proving her point. That people dismiss her work simply because of her title. Funnily enough, although he empathizes her, Damon's yet to become self-aware that he himself is guilty for dismissing Eva's pursuits in the same way those critics did. He concludes the first FTE thinking she's weird, but he keeps coming back to her regardless.. because he trusts her (and thus, is naturally more comfortable around her), despite their circumstances. Also, as mentioned before, he finds her relationship with her talent to be uniquely fascinating because of her unusual disposition towards it. After getting the gist of why she resents her talent, Damon starts growing curious how one who doesn't care for their talent even gets it in the first place. At which point Eva explains that she's not resentful of her talent itself (she actually enjoys math quite a bit), she's resentful of the bullying and social isolation it brought her. She was so traumatized by this growing up that she can't help but associate being a mathlete with feelings of inferiority, weakness, and being unloved. In short, it makes her feel vulnerable, and she desperately doesn't ever want to feel that way (which is also likely why she can come off so cold). Damon, to his credit, is able to work out this much on his own, and while he _does_ sympathize with her, he's also quite restrained about expressing it (even calling her out for not wanting to make herself look incompetent for the sake of her peers, which is more than a bit unfair). Now, this is just my analysis, but considering how insecure Damon himself is about how others view him and his talent, I think he probably relates to this struggle on some level, and doesn't like how vulnerable discussing it makes HIM feel. Thus, he covers it up with snide comments (which is a tendency both he and Eva share in their banter). At this point, the two have grown close enough that Eva starts to open up on her own, and wants to know if Damon shares any of her personal interests. Reason being, she doesn't have any IRL friends that can hang out with her and discuss that sort of thing. At least, not ones who aren't online, and she doesn't value those relationships because A) they're just faces on a screen, and B) they don't know her the way Damon does. Everyone she speaks to knows she's an Ultimate, but not which, and that creates an emotional barrier. One that she forms out of fear of rejection. But like I said, Damon's different. He knows her talent and still chooses to hang out with and trust her regarsless, even when it puts him at risk. It's clear Eva appreciates that, even if she's doesn't come right out and say it. Sadly, Damon doesn't quite pick up on this himself. He's still hung up on her resentment for her title, and asks why she doesn't just request to be given a new one. Of course, Eva obviously would've tried doing that, given the kind of person she is, but her efforts always proved fruitless (on top of her professional pursuits still being ignored by the wider public). Damon, once again, shows restrained sympathy, and tells her that it makes sense she wouldn't be able to be an ultimate of anything else if she isn't the best at it (which is funny, because HE's the one who suggested she to talked to the UTP, so he probably guessed she already tried, and was waiting for her to realize this on her own). Ultimately, he just thinks it'd be healthier if she stopped focusing on trying to achieve the approval of others with her pursuits, and instead focused on her own fulfillment. Why? Because he cares about her, and he can see how much agony her experiences have put her through. But Eva tells him it's not about fame. Damon's confused, but she refuses to elaborate. And I think the answer can be found in the subtext of her story: she wants to leave a meaningful, positive impact on the world. She wants her life to mean something. Damon says in the opening of the game that that's what Ultimates are supposed to be. People who change the world and improve society. Eva wants to be able to do that, but she, ironically, feels like her title has only ever weighed her down. And I think Damon starts to realize this in her last FTE. He becomes curious about this "function" Eva was insecure about barely being able to solve (or at least the way people _thought_ she was unable to). It's subtle, but you can tell Damon wants to understand the kinds of things Eva studies. Which leads them to finally talk about one of her papers (something he dismissed in the first FTE). Once Eva explains the idea of "pure mathematics" taught through table top game terminalogy, Damon realizes that, although the topic was unusual, it did genuinely have merit to it. Which led him to finally become self aware of how he unfairly dismissed Eva's work, and this perspective gives him a newfound respect for both her _and_ her creative pursuits. In other words, he respects her for who she is. She doesn't need to pretend to be anything else around him. And honestly? I think that if they got out of their together, Damon would've been rooting for her to achieve her dreams (or at least be happy in her own skin). But he's so reserved and less outwardly empathetic that she may not have been able to see that in time.. 💔

Yep, that's the kind of nuance I love to see in an antagonist. Not everyone deserves sympathy (though I do believe Eva does warrant some), but it doesn't change the fact that no one is born bad. Just cause someone does horrible things or makes huge mistakes, doesn't necessarily mean they deserve the bad hand in life that brought them there. At the end of the day, she got a title she never wanted and never asked for, and it destroyed her social life and instilled a dangerous victim complex in her. That wasn't her fault. Nor was getting kidnapped and forced to participate in a killing game.
It's really sad that this pairing was cut so short. Damon and Eva's blossoming friendship was by far the thing that had me the most excited for the rest of the story, but alas.. twas not meant to be. I wish the two at least got a scene of closure before Eva died, but Damon barely said anything in her final moments (which is strange, since he cried for her not long after).
Due to how analytical she was, I thought she was going to serve as the Kyoko of the game - She seemed a mixture of Kyoko (Always uses logic for reasoning, kind of a foil to Wolfgang) and Mikan (Victim of bullying, and snaps easily as we saw from her running off embarrassed when she was outed as the Ultimate Mathlete)
@@fierytigergaming8112She would've definitely been an interesting partner for sure. I like how she's capable of being intelligent and cold, but also earnestly enthusiastic about her interest (it creates this satisfying back and forth with Damon, since she's probably the closest to him in demeanor & energy). Her insecurities give her a nice layer of complexity, too. The writers really did an excellent job making her feel like a real 3-dimensional character. But the thing I appreciate most about Eva is her determination. Despite everything she's been through, she never gives up on trying to be something greater. Not for a second did she believe she didn't deserve more than the frustrating hand she'd been dealt, and she never succumbed to being in the shadow of the title that was given to her. She did everything in her power to get the UTP to acknowledge her as more than just a mathlete, and when faced with the killing game, she was able to push her feelings aside to do whatever she needed to survive (like summoning the courage to investigate Cara's body, speaking her honest thoughts to Wolfgang when she believed he was being too naive, and fighting through her execution to the bitter end). Of course, she made plenty of huge mistakes and ultimately had to abandon her morals due to the killing game, but her self-destructive miscalculations, ironically, only proved how much potential she genuinely had. If she just stopped caring what other people thought of her, and put that unrelenting will towards keeping herself alive _without_ participating in the killing game (taking every possible precaution to stop a killer from from executing her) then she likely could have survived. Especially with the way people were underestimating her.
