  • This statistics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into skewness and the different shapes of distribution. It covers symmetric distribution and distributions that are skewed right and skewed left. This video discusses the relationship between the mean, median, and mode for these 3 types of distributions. It also mentions the modality - that is if a distribution is unimodal, bimodal, or multimodal. Finally, the video discusses the skewness of boxplots or box and whisker plots.

    The best explanation ever. Never forget this , "...where is the mean? Because the data is skewed to the right, the mean will be to the right of the median" Science demystified!

  • @tvvt005
    @tvvt005 9 месяцев назад +35

    4:33 for anyone wondering more about why mean lies to the right in this case,it’s because the mean has a tendency to move towards outliers (ie gets affected easily by extreme values), so as there are many outliers in the right, the mean will try to “run off and join them”

      @hsbsvvdsjjsbbsbd1871 9 месяцев назад +2

      Can you tell me how is the mean greater than the median then in this case? I'm a bit confused.

    • @tvvt005
      @tvvt005 8 месяцев назад +4

      @@hsbsvvdsjjsbbsbd1871 this is because as we move towards the right side of the number line the values keep increasing right? ( for eg 20 lies after 19 in the number line ) So as the mean is further right into the number line than the median, it is greater

    nice explanation, you should've plot the box graph under the first graph you introduced so we could see how it changes. Meaning if the box is larger or smaller how does that effect the graph? is there any difference in the graph in the two configuration you interduces in the last to examples? etc...
