東京都荒川区南千住にある神社である。地元では千住素盞雄神社や南千住素盞雄神社、お天王様(おてんのうさま)と呼ばれている。南千住、三ノ輪、三河島、町屋など61町にも及ぶ区域の総鎮守で、旧郷社。例祭「天王祭」は、都内でも珍しい二天棒の神輿で神輿振りをする事で知られている。祭の名前として用いられている天王とは、素盞雄神社の御祭神である素盞雄大神（スサノオ大神）のことを指します。祭が開催される6月が旧暦の夏の時期であることから、悪疫退散･除災招福･郷土繁栄を願い、開催されています。天王祭の見どころは「神輿振り」。神輿を左右交互に地面すれすれまで倒し合うことにより、疫病を素盞雄大神の神威をより一層振り起こして祓うという意味合いがあります。荒々しい神輿の動きは、見ているだけでも興奮するほど熱いものです。
Susanoo Shrine
It is a shrine located in Minamisenju, Arakawa-ku, Tokyo. Locally, it is called Senju Susanoo Shrine, Minamisenju Susanoo Shrine, and Otennosama. It is a general guardian of 61 towns such as Minamisenju, Minowa, Mikawashima, and Machiya. The annual festival "Tennosai" is known for pretending to be a portable shrine with a portable shrine of two heavenly sticks, which is rare in Tokyo. The Tenno used as the name of the festival refers to Susanoo Okami, the deity of the Susanoo Shrine. Since June, when the festival is held, is the summer of the lunar calendar, it is held with the hope of eliminating the plague, blessing disaster relief, and prospering the hometown. The highlight of the Tenno Festival is the "portable shrine swing". By alternately defeating the mikoshi on the left and right to the ground, it has the meaning of further arousing the divine power of Susanoo-no-Okami and exterminating the plague. The violent movement of the portable shrine is so hot that you can get excited just by looking at it.
