I was contacted by this developer to make some music for it. I didn't get the impression that it was a money grab. Let's be honest, anyone willing to invest in the music is not all about the money - so many people want to use music for free these days. I think more than likely they didn't have a lot of man power behind their ambitions. I know how it can be when you have desires and hopes about what you want to do and then you have a change of plans. If you're a small operation, even small changes in your life can alter the direction you go - since there's not a lot of people to fall back on and continue the project.
when you make a game and refuse to sink any more time in it after launch it is a money grab. decent developers try to fix their mistakes. look at no mans sky.
One of the most calming games I have ever played. It was so simple, yet so good. It couldve went places. I came to this Video simply because I just remembered it and thought they might have added new Updates. Guess not..
I bought this game back when it was pre-alpha, i got a special key, and was one of the first testers, oh the promises and hopeful future that this game had back then, genuinely ruined my whole year when i found out that they ditched it. It genuinely meant a lot to me, and back then the devs did listen, took the testers words seriously and implemented recommended features. What also bugged me a lot is that i never got my promised steam key, and access to exclusive media. And they also deleted the main game page with hq wallpapers, and the forum which i spent a lot of time chatting with people in, and i genuinely miss that. I got so disappointed by the devs that i feel motivated to make my own game like among trees, and not abandon it like they did.
For anyone curious, back then the key cost almost 50$, i should note that was a ton of money for me back then, and the fact that I was so invested in the future of this game, just for it to be ditched, felt like a huge heart stab, and honestly, a dick move from the devs.
I got the game before it was even on steam, im so sad it was abandoned, though it IS missing alot of things, I might be the only one who enjoys the game in its current state.
Count me in. I enjoy the game in its current state too. I love the graphics and how the game gives me a relaxing vibe. I'm just so sad that it's just the end of it.
Played this game from really early in its development and loved every minute of it. The landscape is beautiful and calming, and playing in zen mode, bear free! It took some time to find ways to scale the various buttes and the rim around the main field of play (you can get anywhere you can see trees). Although it's a great place to go and chill just as it is, there could have been so much more, and I was devastated when it became known the devs had moved on. Such a shame to abandon such a beautiful vision. 😢
As an indie developer my self, you're assessment here is quite off from reality. Not every survival game is intended to be a forever experience or a live service product. When it comes to smaller teams, some want to tell a short beautiful story or experience that would be difficult to scale up to the magnitude of a AA or AAA studio. There's nothing wrong with 10-15 hours of gameplay for 15 bucks if the quality is at the right spot. The quality factors into the per hour of value of a package. I'd rather have a higher quality shorter experience than the typical poorly executed zombie survival game with bad lighting, animations, interactions, world design and optimization that can last for 100 hours. This game is light years beyond most games and is even close to the long dark in terms of gameplay mechanics/interactions quality. Most likely what happened was the developer had already spent 1-3 years developing this before it was ever announced, took some money and realized their game was not the hit they hoped for and due to realism and business, had to set a linear path to wrap up what they believed to be core features and move on to another project. The reality is game dev is also a business and we can only afford to keep working on what provides the value back to continue the investment. It's sad it stopped but no one got ripped off. The price per hour/quality is quite far. We pay $20 for a 2 hour movie at a theater or rent a single non-interactive movie off amazon for $5 for a single use. It's totally fair in context of media and the value of the product.
Really good looking game and big potential. I remember 2 years ago when it was in early access I didn't buy it, because I thought a lot more content will come. And sadly no.
No wonder one youtuber whom I used to watch during the early access didn't continue playing this game. I bought the game last year for I think 169 PHP cuz it was on sale. Now that I am bored and just installed it today there was no new update from the devs until today and I just saw this vid. Stunning graphics yet was ditched just like MC Dungeons. I wish some dev studios will just buy this game and continue developing it.
i found this game around the end of last year and forgot about it after being very intrigued. unfortunate it ended this way, was excited to see what it could become
I pirated this game, I thought the pirate version was bad, because the resources that we need earlier in the game were placed so far away to the point it annoys me so much. I was thinking to buy it, assuming the legit version would have better design and updates. Woops, I guess you saved me my time and money.
I was so happy fot this game and it was one of the very few singleplayer games I payed to play only to help the developers but because they dropped the project I wish them a very warm f you.
You trusted them! There’s nothing wrong with that. If I knew of this game around that time, I would have probably done the same thing. They screwed up not you, friend.
Was gonna say... For that price, it could be better, but it doesn't need to be a live service. Could they have fixed the bugs? Sure. But money grab? the game has released. If people enjoyed it for a few hours, that's most of what one can expect.

Would you like to make music for a visual novel?

I play Among Trees to relax. The art style and soundtrack are both very relaxing. The game play is simple, and I love it.
