  • A vote to amend a controversial law meant to ensure a minimum wage for app-based workers in Seattle was passed by the Seattle City Council Thursday.
Since the pay ordinance went into effect in January, many restaurants and drivers have told KOMO News it has backfired and led to fewer customers placing orders.
The law that went into effect requires delivery workers to make $26.40 an hour plus mileage before tips.
The Seattle City Council passed some revisions to the current law, in which workers would get paid just under $20 an hour plus 35 cents a mile. Not all app-based delivery drivers are on board.

What amazes me is the City Council didn't see what was going to happen if they raised the minimum wage requirement for delivery drivers
I suspect actually having working brain cells isn't a requirement for Council members

Yup, but it shows the stupidity of the citizens who voted for these people. The entire Seattle council got voted out and they just voted more democrats in 😂nothing will change.

Seattle council has destroyed every successful thing they have focused on. As a matter of fact if you go back ten years. Every social system we had, that was more sucessful than any other cities services in America, has been either corrupted to the point of being insolvent or abolished all together. Almost as though that was the goal of those that came here ten years ago. Considering they paid cash for a house in one of the most expensive housing markets in America they must have made someone happy. Stop focussing on stuff that isn't broken and worry about things that are like mental health or food for children or funding public schools or infrastructure repairs. Gig work will never again be as profitable as it was the day before the council took it upon themselves to mess with it.

Thankfully people have figured out how financially wasteful this type of service is and how unnecessary it is. Get off your butt and go eat or make yourself a meal.

The number of delivery orders dropped massively but... the Law change which raised the delivery cost was never the problem. We are changing it back now but want you to know that the Law change was never the problem and our decisions were and always have been correct. Never change Seattle never Change.... how about ReFunding the Police now and making drog crime illegal and retail theft.

Why is it never mentioned that the company is paying the workers pennies and making hundreds of thousands for them and the
Investors as the stock prices continue to rise. Meanwhile drivers continue to deal with rising gas prices and exploitation. These app companies are predatory. Of course DD and the others applauded the reduction.

People want to do anything and have it pay all their bills with money to spare, the employers should decide how much, take it or leave it.
