That's a beautiful headstone in a beautiful spot. My Granny was born in 1900 and lived 100 years. All those changes in their world. Can you just imagine?! I'd love to hear what they thought of the differences in their childhood years and all the advances in everything by the 1970s when they passed. If you bring a pray bottle of water to squirter on the older headstones sometimes that helps bring out the letters. Just plain water.
I just love family history! I've not been down that way for decades. If I can find someone who can drive and has a desire to go, I'll be coming back that way again. Family from the area has long been gone, but that just means... nothing. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth in Spring. Many thanks, my brother.
Leo glad you brought us Caps story and grave sight especially being on private land. It should help the land owners keep people away from needing to visit what draws interest but still tell an interesting part of history of that area. Chickens in a graveyard are a interesting story in itself so capture that one Leo

I visited many years ago when the house was still standing. There was a trailer next to it, which somebody lived in, but I could not find anyone around. But I did take several pictures of the house. Wish the house still stood.
My grandmother is a Cline. Perry is in my family tree. Cousin? I think? Anywho....she alwasy told us stories and I grew up knowing we were related and just thought it was hilarious to see them on Looney Tunes. There's a lot of Hatfields and McCoys that pop up on my dna matches every month. Despite the fued they married and intermingled even back then.

Too bad that house couldn’t have been saved!!! Up here in Pa and eastern Ohio and northern WV I’ve seen alot of old log homes built back then still being used. I’ve seen some as far back as late 1790s 😎💪🇺🇸🙏 I love this old history
Vance, Hatfields, McCoys, Browns, and Brumfields and Thompsons all very very historic names in southern West Virginia. I’m from Lincoln County myself and I have family in the mountains and I believe I have lots of Hatfield relatives from the area of Logan. This place here. West Virginia. Is the most prominent history you could ever sit and read over. It needs much more light and respect

We literally just got home today from visiting Kentucky from AL and did the Hatfield McCoy driving tour (not all the stops because we had small kids with us) I wish I had known where this was! Love your videos ❤
My goodness I might be related to you. I'm a decendant of the Hatfield clan. My great gramma told me in 1978 that she was a Hatfield decendant. She was in her 90's then. Her name was Lucy Hatfield. And I believe her. She was a sweet gramma. Bless her heart. She passed away shortly after our visit & our 5 generation picture with her.

8:54 This looks an awful lot like a cockfighting property. I grew up next to one, and it had the roosters separated the same exact way. The dog is for protection of the livestock from predators. It looks like a Great Pyrenees or Akbash.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm a descendant of the Hatfield's but not 100% sure where I'm placed. I was born Mary A. Hatfield of Anthony and Evelyn Hatfield. My dad is from Owensboro KY. My Grandfather was V.T. Hatfield and great grandfather was Payton Hatfield. VT was his name but the Army gave him the name Valentine because they didn't allow names that were initials only. If anyone would like to help place me in the family tree of who I descended from I'd appreciate it. ❤

I was raised, that you respected another person's property more than you would your own. If you hunt or fish on someone's place, with permission, leave it better than you found it. Everytime I visit my families, and ancestors graves I put atleast a flower on it to let them know I was there : they aren't forgotten. I have a backpack I call my cemetery bag so I can clean the grave if needed, cut away brush from it etc

@thehillbillyfiles OK so Jim Vance's descendants? I know he's also kin to Hatfields I'm just asking if Jim comes in there somewhere? The reason I was asking about ownership of the cemetery is because I didn't understand why you would have to get permission to visit and in some cases like the McCoy's you have to prove that they are a descendant. I'm from Virginia and we have family that's on old mountain cemeteries and you have to cross through land owners to get to them and they don't really say anything about visiting but of course it's not the Hatfield and McCoy's either 😅 I'm sure that can draw a crowd.

Theremay be graves under those daffadils. It was custom back then to permanently mark graves on homesteads
