When I started to upload songs last year I didn´t know if anyone will like them or not, but as I see it makes many people happy and also interested in history and Germany :)
I will continue and show you more great german songs, and once I uploaded all important ones, I will upload historical songs from other nations as well! Have a great day, you all encourage me so much it´s unbelieveable :)

A little announcement before you read the info:
The Lied der Deutschen is not forbidden, neither the first nor any other verse of it!!! It´s a myth many people believe in. The part:
"Deutschland über alles" doesn´t mean that Germany stands above other nations, you have to see it in the context of the time in 1841.
Germany wasn´t an united nation, but a collection of many states and an united fatherland was meant to be above any other political goal of that time. If you continue to listen to the next lines you will see, the author doesn´t want war, violence or superiority against other nations. He demands noble deeds, to be proud of the own culture, women and freedom etc.
To me it is a lovely song and I wished all 3 verses would be sung.
The "Deutschlandlied" (English: "Song of Germany", German pronunciation: [ˈdɔʏtʃlantˌliːt]; also known as "Das Lied der Deutschen", or "The Song of the Germans"), or part of it, has been the national anthem of Germany since 1922, except in East Germany, whose anthem was "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" ("Risen from Ruins") from 1949 to 1990.
Since World War II and the fall of Nazi Germany, only the third stanza has been used as the national anthem. The stanza's beginning, "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and Justice and Freedom") is considered the unofficial national motto of Germany, and is inscribed on modern German Army belt buckles and the rims of some German coins.
The music is the hymn "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser", written in 1797 by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn as an anthem for the birthday of Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later of Austria. In 1841, the German linguist and poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben wrote the lyrics of "Das Lied der Deutschen" as a new text for that music, counterposing the national unification of Germany to the eulogy of a monarch, lyrics that were considered revolutionary at the time.
The song is also well known by the beginning and refrain of the first stanza, "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" ("Germany, Germany above all else"), but this has never been its title. The line "Germany, Germany above all else" meant that the most important goal of 19th-century German liberal revolutionaries should be a unified Germany which would overcome loyalties to the local kingdoms, principalities, duchies and palatines (Kleinstaaterei) of then-fragmented Germany. Along with the flag of Germany, it was one of the symbols of the March Revolution of 1848.
In order to endorse its republican and liberal tradition, the song was chosen as the national anthem of Germany in 1922, during the Weimar Republic. West Germany adopted the "Deutschlandlied" as its official national anthem in 1952 for similar reasons, with only the third stanza sung on official occasions. Upon German reunification in 1990, only the third stanza was confirmed as the national anthem.

Morgens bei Sonnenaufgang wird die Flagge gehisst und bei Sonnenuntergang eingeholt
Genauso wie eine gelbe Schleife (die sobald sie nur minimal verblasst ist durch die Sonne oder beschädigt sofort erneuert wird) mein Tor am Gartenzaun ziert
Ich finde es beschämend dass es Menschen gibt die vor denen die unser Land schützen (egal ob in Uniform oder in Zivil oder mit dem Strahlrohr oder dem Gewehr) nicht den Respekt entgegen bringen, den sie verdienen.

And became the national anthem in 1922, during the weimar Republic which was the most Liberal nation at the time and is in many ways more Liberal than modern Germany. And the west Germans were perfectly OK with it 1952 as well. Its only more recently they started to get silly with these things...

That's nice to hear (the part about the song being played at the funeral). I get really annoyed (and offended) when people always equates Germany with Nazism. Yes, we should not forget what happened in Germany during the time period 1933-1945. But it's not like all Germans collectively decided to kill all Jews. It's not like the Weimar Republic was a perfect Disney world were Emma Watson signs song and everybody is happy.
History repeats itself in cycles and I have a sneaking suspicion that we will have a "cultural revolution" in Europe that will play out a bit like the French Revolution of 1789, the Napoleonic Era and the Congress of Vienna. Hopefully with the technology on our side we can usher in an era of Pax Europea in Europe and help rebuild South and Central America, Africa and Asia to atone for our human rights violations and knock the Americans of their perch.

I am sorry for situation in 1945 in Sudetenland. It is our national shame that we expelled many no guilty Germans from their homes. I feel ashamed from that. But i hope that in the next decades we will make powerful and respectful friendship between our nations. Gott mit Deutschen.

My grandmother was one of those who had to leave their homeland and unfortunately never gotten over the pain of losing it all for the rest of her life. But me as her grand daughter I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I wish I could read your loving words to her today . You got me in tears and I thank you so much for understanding their pain. Maybe someone told before: The first phrase "Germany, Germany above all in the world ..." is never meant in a way like 'Germany above every other nation in the world' ... correct meaning is: "one united(!) Germany above many, many little Germanys" (princedoms, kingdoms, dukedoms, etc.). But our elites told us, we're not allowed to sing this, because it would implicate, that Germany wants to dominate the world ...
Vielleicht hat's schon jemand erwähnt: Die erste Zeile "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles in der Welt..." heißt nicht 'Deutschland über alle anderen Länder in der Welt'. Korrekte Bedeutung ist: "Ein vereintes Deutschland, anstatt viele kleine Deutschlands" (Fürstentümer, Königreiche, Herzogtümer etc.). Aber unsere Elite sagt uns, dass wir das nicht singen dürfen, weil es implizieren würde, dass Deutschland die Welt beherrschen will.

The first Stanza is about German unification over everything, not about Germany being superior over everybody else. At the time the many kings and monarchs of German speaking territories acted out of selfish ambitions, standing in the way of a unified Germany. The author stresses that the unification of Germany is more important than everything else in the world for us Germans, more important than selfish ambitions. Nothing racist or so about it.

Deutschland muss endlich aufhören, sich in den Prinzipien der 'Erbschuld' zu verbeißen. Ja, es gibt dunkle Kapitel in unserer Geschichte, aber die gibt es auch in anderen Ländern. Ja, Deutschland hat Fehler gemacht, aber es waren die Fehler unserer Urgroßväter, Großväter und für manche von uns unserer Väter. Wir sind mehr als nur die Verursacher eines Weltkrieges (der Erste Weltkrieg war meiner Meinung nach nicht Deutschlands alleinige Schuld) oder die Nazis. Wir sind mehr als nur Hitler, Goebbels und Konsorten oder Honecker und die Stasi. Wir sind auch Goethe, Schiller, Planck, Bach und Adenauer.
Wir sollten diese Fehler zwar nie vergessen, aber wir sollten auch nicht zulassen, dass sie uns für immer definieren. Diese Hymne ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür: Heute singen wir nur noch die dritte Strophe, weil die ersten beiden mit dem Nationalsozialismus verbunden werden. Doch wenn ich das Lied der Deutschen höre, denke ich nicht an einen Hitler, sondern an einen Hermann von Hoffmannsthal. Wenn ich Patriotismus und deutsches Volk höre, denke ich nicht an Goebbels oder diejenigen rechtsgerichteten unter uns, die es auf den Straßen herumbrüllen. Nein, ich denke an die Leute, die 1848 versuchten, einen deutschen Nationalstaat zu errichten. Ich denke an einen Bismarck, der eben dies 1871 tat.
Ich für meinen Teil verzichte dankend darauf, mich von den Fehlern von 1933 bis 1945 definieren zu lassen. Ich für meinen Teil bin verdammt noch mal stolz darauf, Deutscher zu sein.

actually in historical context, "Germany above everything" was meant to be that germany, the whole germany should be one. bc at that time, germany and the german people were split into many kingdoms and states. It was a call for german unification to be one as a people.

germany in a broad sense is still divided, the real german eastern territories still under foreign command, austria, tirol, german swiss. all split up. Großdeutschland (Big Germany) is the idea of unification. "Deutschland über alles!" (germany above everything) is a call for that unification.

Unfortunately, Germany doesn't look like that anymore. I grew up in Brazil to a family of German descent. Before WW1, half of my family went to the US and the other half went to Brazil. My great-grandfather was born in Frankfurt and died without returning to his beloved Germany. When I first went to Germany 3 years ago, I fell in love with the country. A small town in the south, called Rothenburg, was to me the very definition of perfection - there seemed to be such a strong sense of community, family enterprises dating back hundreds of years...and of course, it was all organized, clean, beautiful.
But when I moved to Germany to study, my perception changed. I am only leaving this comment here because some people might not have the chance to travel to Germany but are curious about it. And, obviously, I could never say these things in real life without being called a Nazi: this Germany we see on the video is dead. Germany, overall, feels like a country without a soul. From the educational system to the day-to-day life, the only thing binding people together is business. Money, taxes and exports. Many German people my age told me they didn't even study German history at school. I love cinema, for example. Nobody watches German movies. Composers? Yeah, they know them, but if you show any admiration for the works of Wagner you're a virulent anti-Semite. Germany feels like it's a country that was born in 1945, a medieval theme park. Bear in mind that the young generation is even more aggressively anti-Germany. People my age told me about how they held a competition to see who could steal the most German flags from people's cars. The flags, by the way, you only see when the national team is playing football at a major competition. It's as if, at this point, Germans felt they are German-speaking Americans (in practice, they have a colonial mentality).
Germany's most populous and richest state is called North Rhine Westphalia, or NRW for short. This is where the state government told people not to stand too close to strangers to avoid knife attacks. The people you can find in this state include Arabs, Somalis, Turks,
Pakistanis, Indians, etc. And to think that, during the 1950s, they spoke of cultural shocks between the Germans and the Italian "guest workers"! Italian immigrants would be a blessing. The majority of foreigners don't even speak English, let alone German. I noticed that, when dealing with foreigners, Germans seemed almost gullible. I witnessed a man from Pakistan telling a German how the schools in Pakistan were superior, and the German just nodded, accepting it. Registration offices are so overwhelmed that I witnessed 3 workers having to handle paperwork from a line of around 160 people. There's constant turmoil, a total lack of organization and frustration on both sides. The German political elite have definitely bitten off more than the people could chew.
Interestingly, I found documents showing that my family fought against Napoleon, and then for the Empire again during WW1. I think it would make much more sense for the government to "import" labor and talent from German descendants in South and North America, as well as Russia and Poland, many young people who would otherwise never have a chance to go to Germany. There would also be little to no conflict in terms of religion and culture. But it's all over now. A professor of ours spoke proudly of how they built, in NRW, the very first mosque where men and women can pray together. Marvellous! Meanwhile, the young people Germany imported complained on Facebook that the church bells are too loud and it bothers their sleep. Who would have thought, church bells in a Christian country...
Well, it's all over now. If you want to see what real Germans look like, go to the US and Brazil among other places and speak to the people who kept their traditions. In Germany itself, that heritage is seen as "quaint" at best, and fascist in some cases. Another professor of ours compared patriotism to nationalism (the German gov. advertises its universities online by calling Germany the land of ideas. You can definitely have ideas, as long as you don't express them). The province we call Germany is the land of consensus, and a man I met on a train to Cologne summarized it well, after I introduced myself as a foreigner, he said: Das gibt's nicht bei uns...

NRW is the biggest state populationwise, but it's FAR from being the richest or even a rich state. in fact some parts of it are what trump would call a shithole (sorry NRW inhabitants :*) that has been run by social democrates and the green party for decades (just in the last election the voted conservatives for the first time in decades!). high unemployment rate there, buildings and infrastructure are in bad condition, a lot of low skilled migrants, gypsies etc. it used to be rich a long time ago, when they still had the coal business going (it's been a while)
south germany is where the money and the business is at. bavaria, baden-wuerttemberg, hessia. also ppl have a different mentality in the south, they are way more conservative, streets are cleaner etc.
you mentioned how beautiful rothenburg was? that's in bavaria for example. if that was your first impression of germany, no wonder you were shocked in NRW. i would not want live there if you'd pay me double my salary to do so. ;)

As a Canadian with some German blood this video saddens me, knowing that Germany was one of the greatest nations to exist but has since, lost almost everything that made it great. People who say "Deutschland über alles" is racist know nothing about the grammar of the German language. Deutschland über alles means Germany above everything in a grammatical sense. Historically it was used to unite the little kingdoms, because they would be stronger together than alone. Germany was united under this little sentence. Deutschland über allen would be something else. That means Germany above everyone. Nobody says that (except the nazis but that is in the fucking past).
It meant that an united German fatherland has priority over any other political goal in the world.

Its stll our anthem but only the third stanza is the one we sing at official occasions. Its much more fitting than the first wich refers to the borders of Germany in 1890 who are not our borders today.

You could still sing it in expectation of justice to be done and your rightful borders to be restored. And the second stanza... Your culture will resound in the world and inspire every German to great deeds. Isn't that the best message an anthem can convey?
What makes me sick is that they plan to take the verse "For the German Fatherland" and want to remake it into "for the german homeland" because fatherland is to much Nationalist for them

@@Bstroyden es ist Kulturgut. Das Lied entstand damals aufgrund des Wunsches einen geeinten deutschen Staat zu erschaffen. Lange vor der Nazizeit. Unsere Lieder wurden nun mal leider von den Nazis missbraucht. Diese Zeit ist jetzt über 70 Jahre her und ich finde, wir sollten wieder stolz auf unser Land sein dürfen, ohne dass gleich jeder einen als Nazi bezeichnet.

You're right, we (the Germans..) have not been the only aggressors in history. In case of the jews we've been the most agressive one maybe. Cause as far as I know no nation before tried to extinct a complete culture via murder. But anyway, there have been other aggressors, too. You listed some and there have been even more, sure.
But where is the point here? On the first hand you say what Germany did is history, long ago, has nothing to do with today. Today living germans don't need to be ashamed of their nationality. Which is exactly what I think, too, by the way. But on the other hand you take the USSR, the Yugoslavian Conflict, the colonization of America and/or Africa. All that is also long ago! It's not an argument anymore, as nobody who has done those things is living anymore!
You know the 2 absolutely world leading superpower nations after WW2? USA and USSR, right? Why? What did they have what no other nation had? Space! Many people! A common target! That's what made the difference. The USA are 50 (or 51? don't know..) States, united in one country. The USSR was the same. Another political system, but many states in one country. Obviously that is a key for success! Not if those states are united by force, for example in your Yugoslavia. But if they unite voluntarily, they'll have much more success, followed by much more wellness for their people, as if they didn't. Germany has been world leading export country for decades, caused by our good cars, by our coal, and by "Made in Germany" as a trademark for quality. But that is over! We're only average today, cause asian countries have been better in the last 10-20 years. As a single player on the global market we would loose! It would take 20, 30, maybe 50 years, and then WE would be the 3rd world country that needs gifts from others. The only(!!) way to stay strong was to unite and multiply our strengths - so we and the surrounding countries formed the EU. Which has some starting difficulties (the US had similar problems in the beginning, seems to be normal..), but after all I think it's a very good foundation of our wellness. So, the more countries are inside the EU, the better for everyone. You'll see what will happen to the UK after Brexit, maybe you'll remember me then ;)
And about the muslim refugees... That is a problem! Cause if they become to many, they'll change our national culture, which I don't want to happen. But that problem is NOT!!! caused by the refugee who stands in front of our border! It's caused by wrong politics over decades by politicians from our and from other countries all over the world. I was in school in the 80s and 90s. And back then my teacher in politics has told us "If we are rich, and if we have open borders, and if other countries are still poor, then the people from that countries will come and try to live here." So, even my small unimportant little teacher in a smalltown knew what obviously all of our high educated politicians and experts didn't know? Or did they just think "Ok, a problem, but not my problem"? And of course they come here - I would do the same in their situation, wouldn't you? So, possibility a) we keep our borders closed, possibility b) we let them in and possibility c) we manage to get THEIR countries as rich as our country is, so they don't need to come here. Right? Or do you know another way except these 3? So, right now we try possibility b). Why do we? Cause we are sooooo proud of our culture, and our culture is mainly CHRISTIAN. I don't believe in god, but I do believe that living a christian way is not so wrong at all. Like not stealing, not murdering, things like that, you know. And one part of this christian way of live is charity! If there is a person in front of our border, saying he/she needs help or will die otherwise - we just HAVE TO help him/her! Maybe we'll get problems, maybe it will get difficult, but there is no other "good" option! So, possibility a) isn't working. And possibility c? Well, everyone of us is too selfish to really do this. And even if we tried, most of those , lets say problem-countries, have leaders who will take our money and buy weaponry instead of giving it to their people. So, c) would be nice, would even be the very best, but isn't realistic.
And by the way, you will have noticed that I'm german, and I'm NOT!!! proud to be a german! Not because I'm ashamed because of World War 2! I've got nothing to do with what has happened there. But because I can not be proud of any country of cutlure I'm living in! It's not my honour that we've reached what we reached, I was born in this country randomly. I like Germany! If you want so, you could say I love Germany! But I'm not proud of it! I'm proud of my job, my family and some other things I've reached in my live, but not for the place where I was born. And if 100 billion muslim refugees will come to us and if our complete culture will be overwhelmed by them and they turn Germany into a muslim country - then I would leave this country and live somewhere else. Just like you did. Then I would still like Germany - the good old Germany as I knew it - but I wouldn't miss it. Everything I want is a job that feeds me good, as much freedom as I'm used to and peace. That's all, doesn't matter where on this planet that is. Maybe a country with german as foreign language cause it's hard for me to write all this bullshit in english right now ;)
Anyway... I think together is always better than against each other, so I'm giving everybody a neutral start, doesn't matter what religion he believes in. And if a muslim would hurt me, I would defend myself. But not against all muslims, but only against that one specific one! Cause I know there are christian and atheist assholes as well. But I would really love to see that EVERY religion is forbidden and eradicated, THAT would solve the very most of our today's problems. But sadly that will not happen in my live anymore..
