Now available at the St. Louis Car Museum is a spectacularly restored 1963 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster that has been beautifully refinished In true Concours fashion in original factory code-correct Rangoon Red over a Pearl Beige Metallic vinyl interior and white convertible top. This classic Ford remains all numbers matching to this day with only 79 actual miles driven since its completion and will come fully documented. Its documentation includes copies of the original invoice, factory build sheet, an original owner's manual, and a complete book highlighting the extreme attention to detail on every Ford part number, inspection stamp, sticker, and proper metal plating as per factory specification. According the original build sheet, this T-Bird comes loaded with all options including M-code 390ci V8 3x2bbl high-performance engine, Select-Aire air conditioning, Cruise-O-Matic transmission, tilt-away steering column, power lift windows, power driver seat, vacuum lift power locks, tinted window glass, thin stripe whitewall tires, Magicaire heater/defrost, push-button AM radio, windshield washers, remote outside mirror, and heavy-duty battery!
This particular example was completed in October of 1962 making it an early build that was delivered new from Hemphill Ford Center located in San Antonio, TX. No expense was spared and no detail overlooked during a comprehensive rotisserie restoration to factory and Concours specifications by the owner and Vintage Thunderbird Club International Technical Editor (1961-63) Jim Wulf, who is recognized as one of the country's foremost Thunderbird restorers for the 1963 year. Throughout our available Classic Thunderbird, you will find absolute factory finishes on all refinished OEM parts and along with its many NOS parts. Great detail and care went into the restoration of this vintage gem including hundreds of hours of research that were dedicated to ensuring that every aspect of the restoration was absolutely factory correct. In fact, much of that research is being incorporated into the new forthcoming edition of the V.T.C.I. 1961-63 Official Factory Specifications Manual, currently being assembled by renowned Thunderbird expert Alan Tast. As a result, this particular M Code Sports Roadster is the “Gold Standard” by which all other 1963 Thunderbirds will be judged in the future.
We are proud to offer a stand-out 1963 Ford Thunderbird finished in a flawless Rangoon Red paint that was applied over its rust-free body, which is highly complimented by its factory-correct Pearl Beige Metallic vinyl upholstery, as well as the new loop carpet which keeps with the vehicles original style. Additional improvements include the complete removal, professional polish, and reinstallation of its stainless steel trim found throughout the interior and exterior. The interior ribbed aluminum trim has been removed and restored to its original tinted finish. All interior and exterior chrome trim has been removed, stripped, and re-chromed. The front and rear bumpers were triple chrome plated. All interior panels and the original dash, which we must comment is in perfect condition, were refinished in original correct factory finishes. Lastly, the meticulously detailed trunk with a newly installed factory-correct Burtex trunk kit, features a restored original top and deck cylinders, as well as a new top pump and hydraulic hoses.
It is no secret that the Ford Thunderbird is highly sought after and getting your hands on one in good condition is rare. In our opinion, there is simply no finer example than the one seen here and it is unlikely that a car of this caliber will be on the market again anytime in the near future. Absolutely stunning! My next bird is going to be a 63 Sports Roadster or a convertible dressed up like one. I want the Acapulco Blue with a lighter blue two tone interior. I own a 57 E Code Torch Red bird but it is too small for me.

Ahh, yes...originally conceived to be installed on the Continental Mark II until cost dictated it to be impractical. So, engineers moved it to the Fairlane in a hardtop-'vert variant, then to the Lincolns and T-Birds in soft-top variant.
My grandmother once had a '62 model, a 'vert. There was a story about that car that stuck in my head; my grandmother told it to me once, and my mother has verified it. She, my mother, and my uncle were driving around one day, my uncle driving, my mother in the front, and my grandmother in the back...which she hated, because she always complained that she was stuck there and could not get out without help. Suddenly smoke began pouring up through the hood (not steam, *smoke* ); my uncle pulled over, opened the hood, and discovered an engine fire from a leaking fuel line. No sooner had he seen that and looked over to warn my grandmother to get out, than he saw she was already out and a very long distance away from the car. This woman, who claimed she felt trapped in the back and needed help getting out, had teleported herself to a safe distance! 😆 They got the fire extinguished and the fuel line fixed...but they never let her forget that day, especially if she ever complained about the back seat.

Magnificent. You can have it work with a back seat?

Tanneau cover on it - all four seaters. Cover goes over the back seat makes it a two seater.

Mine is almost as clean as that, it’s a ‘63 hardtop in the same color except it’s literally all-original and in ridiculously clean condition.
