    If you haven't already I highly recommend trying trekking poles especially for a hike like that. I just started using them and honestly I was blown away by how much more secure you feel on loose surfaces.

      So funny! I actually just posted a video about snowshoeing for my first time where I used poles, I loved them! I agree, it was surprising how much they helped!

    Great video. Thank you very much. Especially for recommending gaiters!
    What brand micro spikes did you purchase? What size Solomons do you wear and what size micro spikes did you buy? Thank you!

    I’m adding micro spikes to my gear but I never hike in the winter without poles and gaiters. You gotta get gaiter. I too prefer to hike in shoes and the gaiters keep you nice and dry. You can step in snow up to your knees and be fine!

      Such a great point! I still don't have poles but I got gaiters in my snowshoe video! What are your suggestions for poles?! Maybe that's what I'll get this year!

    Love the review, love the smile and love the personality... Don't change 👍🏼
    I only buy Salomon's, they fit like slippers, get some gortex versions and some nice gaiters. For snow I'd go knee length, for summer some wee ankle jobs to avoid the stones...

    ps. don't but tampons for your feet, well unless you have bad blisters then they may help!

    A silly question...are these microspikes ok to use in the city when the ground is icy? Or is it better to use the ones with the very tiny spikes?

    What is the advantage/disadvantages of hiking shoes over tennis shoes while hiking/carrying a day pack for just a couple of miles?

    • @TheGearLady
      @TheGearLady  Год назад

      Oh! Such a great question!
      Truthfully, I wore Nike running shoes hiking for years because I didn’t want to pay for hiking shoes and also I didn’t want to experience the awkward breaking in period; I assumed it would involve blisters and didn’t want that!
      However, I will say, I’m truly converted to hiking shoes now.
      Absolutely it’s possible to just wear tennis shoes. There’s so many features built into hiking shoes that a gear head would rattle off. I think the main differences a normal person would notice would be:
      1. Grip. If you’re going uphill at all, grip will really matter, especially as the incline increases.
      2. Stability. There is extra technology throughout the shoe to really stabilize your foot and ankle. It can make a huge difference.
      3. Breathability. Again, technology details. But, my foot is so much more comfortable.
      4. This is kind of a silly one, but my experience wearing running shoes was hiking got them so dirty and kind of ruined them. My hiking shoes are so durable, easy to clean, and have lasted for years!
      To me, it’s absolutely worth the investment!
      Let me know if you have any additional questions! Happy hiking!

    Hiiii, will those spikes fit over winter boots? Or just shoes?

    • @TheGearLady
      @TheGearLady  2 года назад

      Hi! Yes, I think they would fit over winter boots! I’ve worn them with some duck boots before and didn’t have any problems, I’d imagine normal winter boots would be just great!
      Let me know what you think of them!
