Your daughter adds some really good perspective to the discussions. I think that's the fun part of music with storylines. You get to share ideas of how you interpret it with other people. Dollhouse was the 2nd song from Melanie that I heard and I instantly loved it for how relatable it was for me. CryBaby is such an interesting concept because it speaks about things that people of any age can relate to but it's all filtered through childhood metaphors.

It always reminds me, not only of my family, but when I was a kid going to sleep over at a friend's house thinking it would be a kind loving home because my friend is kind a loving, just to find I can't sleep because the parents are arguing/shouting and yelling at the kids and my friend is crying. dollhouse is my fav song from crybaby. its about a dysfunctional family that pretends to be perfect to the public when inside their house, everyone is troubled and has their own baggage. The son smokes pot, the mom is a drunk, the dad is an a cheater and crybaby, the youngest child who is watching this all come together. She gets this mindset that all relationships are to be this way, hence her freakout in Soap when she tries to break the generational trauma and be open with her feelings but turns out to be bad. And her reaction in Alphabet boy when she refused to be told anything by a man. It basically all leads to her being independent in the end but the entire crybaby album is about household trauma from the perspective of a little girl who cannot speak up because as you heard in crybaby, when she tried to speak out with her emotions, she was called a crybaby.
