EDIT: PD4 Plus has wider soundstage while M1P is more on frontal open sound. Spatial imaging is equal on both. Bass quality, M1P is more neutral but richer sounding, PD4+ is a bit colored and energetic. Ultimately it depends on what you prefer more, natural analog sound, M1P does it better, energetic dynamism, PD4 Plus does it better
Good to know that DC04 Pro is still at the top. Recently purchased Jcally JM60 also as I needed a dongle DAC which supports mic inline controls and while it doesn't get detected on my Samsung phone, works amazingly on my windows desktop for its price with excellent synergy with warm sounding headphones. It has as much power in single ended as my DC04 Pro and sound wise both are side grades. It all depends on the synergy with your IEMs/Headphones JM60 beats DC04 Pro in clarity, vocals clarity, imaging, separation while DC04 Pro has slightly more extended fuller bass than JM60 (not as tight as JM60) and also has a slightly thicker note weight. So DC04 Pro for thinner, leaner brighter sounding gear and JM60 for fuller, denser, warmer sounding gear I like both and so kept both. Jcally has done a good job with that dongle. I am fully covered for now until Ibasso and Jcally release DC10 Pro and JM200 😉😉
Jcally makes some pretty great dacs from what I can see! I’ve just bought one of their JM11s since I needed one that was cheap and had micpassthrough and because I’m just getting started in this hobby. It Really pushed the vocals forward and it overall just made my waners sound better. Might buy one of their $10-20 dollar dacs next year (because I’m broke from 11.11)
Thanks, and yes obviously. As I have mentioned, Fostex T40RP MK3 that I use is about the hardest to drive short of using HiFiMan Susvara which is even harder at 87dB. So any planar IEMs is peanuts to this PD4 or practically most 4 VRMS rated dongles
My pleasure. My main gaming rig is Fostex T40RP MK3 headphone driven by Burson Audio Playmate2 which supports MIC. And when I need MIC for gaming, I use Antlion Audio Kimura DUO
Hi andy, just had a question running in my mind.. in the EPZ TP50 review video on comparison you have given 10,8,9,10 for ibasso DC04 pro in the sound.. but whereas here in this video for the same DC04 pro you have given 10,9,9,10.. how come it has been changing?? Is there any reason or logic behind that?? Just curious to know as am getting confused.. thanks andy..
As noted in the footnote, some ratings have been recalibrated in late March/April especially when I reviewed Fosi Audio DS2, which makes me made re-assessment for Cirrus Logic based dongles, they are so fiercely competitive. So after DS2 review, the exhibited rating numbers are the current standing which makes more sense
Hello. I heard Akliam pd5 already launced. Do you have the plan to review Pd5 in short time? And just in case, bcs Pd5 have different Dac chip, maybe you can still compare it to pd4 and pd4+ despite they have different Dac chip, just to be our consideration whether should upgrade from 4 to 5 or 4+ to 5
@@donglemadness it means your pd4+ still work properly untill now even though you often switch the high low gain toggle without any issue to the sound itself?

I recommend Colorfly CDA M1P for HE400SE Stealth, because the bright upper frequencies of HE400SE will sound much smoother. DS1 and PD4 Plus may sound a bit more sparkly and energetic, but may also appear bright. M1P will offer a good balance to it

hi andy, im considering to buy a new dongle i have two in mind but i don't know which is the best. 1-ibasso dc03 pro 2-akliam pd4 plus if there is any other dongle better than those my budget is around 45 dollars so if there is any other suggestion please let me know
For up to $45, I would go for PD4 Plus since it has 4.4mm BAL on top of having double the power of DC03Pro. Both are amazing dongles really, I just feel that for the price, you get more value from PD4+
Wavelet app makes my music sound soo good that I really had no need for my Tanchjim Space or Akliam PD4 Plus so I returned them. Wavelet is amazing and basically does what these DAC don't and that's that the DAC dongles still sound whack without Wavelet!

Thank you. Between CDA-M1P and PD4 Plus, for the music you listen to, I am more inclined to recommend CDA-M1P, as it offers smooth resolution and just slightly less energetic than PD4 Plus. Both are great dongles nonetheless, PD4 Plus is perfect if you listen to Electronic, Techno or stuffs from Kraftwerk, and many modern Pop music. Hope this helps.
I advise against purchasing PD4 Plus. What good is good sound quality if the equipment is faulty? Only output 4.4 works. What about quality control? No warranty liability from the official store on aliexpress. Proposal of a discount coupon for the purchase of PD5? We make faulty equipment, so buy a new model, maybe it will be good.

Very close, but I will say PD4 Plus edges it a bit more by a hair

Hiii Andy...is it true that pd4+ has an issue with low high gain switch that could happend on some kind of sound output problem in few month usage?
I have no idea on that one, my PD4+ does not have that issue

Wavelet is an EQ tool, DACs are audio processors
Any dac dongle can't run through wavelet, if you turn on the bit perfect/ passthrough mode
