And how is this honorably accomplished without on sight persons that are recognized as being designated, accountable, and actively supportive for enabling due respect to be the rule, in serving those seeking for their dignity care rights to be reinforced? We all know it truly takes more than words. especially when some important elements for accomplishing the rights are obviously missing!
I'm currently attending a "Train The Trainer" course to give me the qualification to begin teaching STNA training classes. I have a presentation to give on Residents' Rights and this video will be invaluable. I'll also be putting the link on a handout of resources on this subject for my own students, once I begin holding classes. Thank you!
And as a resident of a long-term nursing home you have the right and a nursing home must provide you with a phone a cell phone or some kind of communication to communicate with your family how many people know that you have the right to communicate with your family and friends as you request
Only thing is, what happens when the residents have Alzheimer's or other mental impairments? When my mother-in-law was in LTC about two years ago (assisted living SCU for those with Alzheimer's, lewy-body dementia, etc.), despite us having a very extensive medical and general durable power-of-attorney (both of which addressed the allocation of authority to make decisions) that were drawn up by an elder law attorney, the executive director and her staff persistently refused (after the first few months) to give us, her family any significant detailed information on her healthcare, ER treatments, medications administered, etc. They used the stupid *bleeping* HIPAA and "patient privacy" acts as a bully club against us, so that they could essentially treat her however they wanted, and make all pertinent decisions without any "interfering" oversight from her concerned family members, even though she had reached a place in her disease process where she could not communicate well or understand what was going on. :( This is a gross misuse and overapplication of these overarching "patient privacy laws" that desperately needs to change!!
How many family members friends relatives no residents rights if you don't know residents rights there should be a booklet in the lobby of any nursing home or you can request a booklet on residents rights
I have the right to stop the nursing home from ripping me off. I have the right to no roommates as I don’t do well with roommates. I have the right to alert the staff to what my needs are met.
The nursing home can’t keep you apart from people against your will? How did this not apply over the last few years when residents were for only separated from family even unable to say their last goodbyes? So many human rights discarded and about to happen again. 🤦♀️
