Hey, I’ll take my $2k back, and still not vote for him. I don’t want student loan forgiveness, but if it’s happening, I’ll gladly take my money back from the Gov.
What they should do is just make the interest 0%, and if anyone has paid more than the value of their loans already and still has a balance left, they don’t have to pay more. The biggest problem is that pay doesn’t keep up with the interest anymore
First thing, it's not GOVERNMENT MONEY, it's TAXPAYER MONEY and it's becoming increasingly obvious that neither party is doing right by the American people who are paying taxes in the first place. I think all Americans, no matter what party you vote for, should send a direct message to the politicians, by stopping our taxes from being taken from our pockets, because they can't arrest MILLIONS of registered voters and it would send a strong message.
I remember how the last time he proposed forgiveness for student loans went. It was struck down, and no doubt it will be again

It's not forgiving any debt at all lol It's moving debt from people who took a loan and agreed to pay it back and adding it to the country's national debt, which is far far worse. If those people don't want debt and didnt think they could pay it back, maybe they shouldnt have signed on the dotted line.
As an 18 or 19 year old who had literally no idea how money or loans work, I went into the financial aid office and they did it all for me and had me sign on the dotted line for THOUSANDS of dollars more than I needed for tuition. No one explained ANYTHING to me. I had no idea what I signed up for. Which is one of the reasons some of these companies are in trouble for this exact reason, giving loans out like candy.

I've been wondering if it's possible to sue over this, I know the government can say we gave the loan and choose to recind it but on the other hand they are handpicking certain individuals and leaving certain people out so i feel like it would have to be all or none, then as you said you have people who did what they agreed and paid it back, so i feel they could argue that they don't get that option and had to struggle to pay it back and therefore deserve something too. I feel like Joe Biden shouldnt have any authority over it anyhow as it should be Congress that makes those decisions.

Many student apply for student loans for college and then don’t bother to show up for class. They use the student loans for things that aren’t necessary for their college degree. And then they don’t even get a degree. I hope any of these plans will actually go to people who worked hard And attained decent grades and completed their degree.

The investment of pension funds of all college and university administrators and faculty should be restricted to student debt instruments. This portfolio is diverse both in terms of the college majors, industries of employment and geography. Every other industry assumes the risk associated with the success or failure of their product; but not the education industry.

How is that a conspiracy theory? The debt will be moved for the taxpayers to pay as an additional tax, like social security and Medicare/Medicaid. It literally will be moving their debt to people who did not take out a loan.

What is a "low-value" degree?
The fair way to relieve student debt is to stop interest accumulation and ask borrowers to only repay the actual amount they borrowed. This is fair to those who served or did public service because their debt is completely forgiven. It is fair to society because the ´money that was actually spent by the borrower is repaid by him.The government can then figure out how to pay the interest owed in a seperate move.

For people upset because they paid their loans please consider that you got a better deal out of your education. You made enough money to pay them back. People on the economic hardship program never earned enough to pay back loans but were charged interest incessantly. I came from poverty. The companies gave me loans at 18 with zero education on what that meant and no relatives that could help me. I worked and went to school and have never earned enough to pay back my loans.

I have an idea for student loans, if you take out a loan you pay it back, unless I get to go into your accounts to pay my mortgage.

Restrict student loans from private colleges and low quality diploma mills, because GOV'T bureaucracy gives false hope to upwardly mobile students granting them loans without regard of getting PAID BACK. Gov't IS the problem and it's mostly women, of all races, who owe the most. Per St. Louis Fed, $1.7B of loans as of Q4 '23 so FEDS need to get out of student loans to end hardships.
