Private Cloud Rules

  • For the past years one of the IT mega trends has been "the cloud". Many companies are rushing to the public cloud because it's easy for them and quite honestly...because everybody else is doing so.
    But it's not really "the cloud" what everybody wants - it's the frictionless CLOUD EXPERIENCE that we love. Like all larger companies very well know, that same cloud experience can be achieved with building your own PRIVATE CLOUD. The difference is that private cloud exceeds the capabilities of public cloud, listing a few examples:
    - More control over your precious business critical data
    - More hardware and software security
    - More infrastructure and application agility
    And the best part is, when you design and implement your private cloud using the best technologies from trusted vendors, private cloud will become significantly less expensive than using the same services from public cloud.
    Join me with my introduction on the differencies between traditional data centers, public cloud and private cloud.

    I would echo all the positive comments to be sure, but I'll add a couple! First, I think your delivery is excellent - meter, timbre, tone, not too fast (or slow), and no jargon where none is needed. Top shelf! Second, (I tell students this too) when it comes to learning something totally new, wherever possible, build a "framework for understanding" first as that makes subsequent information much easier to assimilate. In only 11ish minutes, you managed to do exactly that. Wow!!

    • @TechEnthusiastInc

    4 years later and this concept is as relevant as ever…except with advent of containers and Kubernetes, VMs/hypervisors are relics and superfluous, driving private cloud costs down even further…another deficiency of public clouds is that they’re are multi-tenant meaning you’re not only renting someone else’s servers but sharing resources with other customers as well. Because of this, PaaS vendors have to enforce strict SLAs to keep things copasetic which may not bode well for your customers/SLAs if that makes sense.

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc  Год назад

      100%. The general concept hasn’t changed a bit. And I agree, containers are the future. Though, you’d be surprised how many workloads still run on VMs…or even bare metal! So eyes on containers but let’s not rush to bury VMs just yet. 😉

    • @JabYoFace
      @JabYoFace Год назад +1

      @@TechEnthusiastInc I’m def not surprised to see VMs all over the place because old habits die hard😆 but what’s surprising to me is when I talk to folks about running containers on bare metal they get a glazed look over their faces. You’re removing virtual hardware and replacing with virtual processes running on the OS. Still more work to be done on getting people to shift their thinking since it’s been how IT operated for last 20+ years.

      Exactly! People might not realise it but you can create your own private cloud quite easily and affordably these days. But where I do think these big cloud companies have real value to offer is with hybrid and multi clouds. That's where things get more complicated.

      @@TechEnthusiastInc Absolutely. Just a thought- Would it make sense to extend the HCI design with a video depicting solutions from the LAN to the Data center edge networking components? I realize it can get a bit complicated, but I am thinking if we break it down to core, next generation firewalls, edge routing, it would give a comprehensive overview of an entire modern data center or rather “Private cloud”?

    Once the private cloud has been built, what comes next? IaaS? Then PaaS? Can you do some video about that? I liked how you explained in the video. Very nice, kiitos.

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc  5 месяцев назад

      Well, depends on your goals. It can all be done after "the private cloud as been built". IaaS and PaaS are a bit different things. They are service models, meaning the whole envionment is being maintained and supported, maybe even operated and managed by someone else and you pay a monthly fee for the service.
      But you are right, this would be an interesting continuum to this video. I need to add that to the list. Thanks for the suggestion and for your kind words! 🙏

    Hi Markus, love your content mate, what’s your thoughts on AHV vs HyperV as a Nutanix Custer hypervisor? Does AHV require a separate physical domain controller outside the cluster?

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc  4 года назад

      Hi there, Josh! Glad to hear you enjoy my videos. :)
      Now that's a question you are not alone with. There are so many views to this that I'm not sure if I can address all of them here. There's personal hypervisor preferences, your internal requirements, pricing&licencing, etc.
      But from the tech point of view: AHV is a KVM spin-off whereas Hyper-V is based on Windows Server Core. Two very different approaches. As much as I like open-source I would personally still go for Hyper-V (especially if you already have Microsoft licenses) just because of the longer list of enterprise features. However, with hyperconvergence you don't often times utilise all the underlying hypervisor features so this is not a straightforward answer.
      What comes to domain controller, that's purely a Microsoft thing, hence, you don't need to worry about that with AHV.
