Ottawa keeps growing and needs good mass transit. It has two light rail lines. And there are plans for others to connect the suburbs, including French speaking Gatineau, Quebec.
A big problem I have heard is the lack of car parking at the suburban stations. How do they expect non-commuters and tourists to use the system and reduce congestion in downtown Ottawa if there is nowhere to park at the remote stations?
@@mlmielke We’re visiting Ottawa this summer and will be staying East of the city. We were looking at taking the service from the Blair station, but there is literally nowhere to park except for a permit-only Park-n-Ride many steps away, and a shopping center parking lot where one risks getting ticketed or towed. Is this not true?
Line 1 really doesn't have any "suburban" stations yet. It doesn't reach any suburbs. Current suburban stations have large park and rides with busses that go to the train stations.
@@pscheu100 They're adding park and ride facilities to the Trim and Place d'Orleans stations in the eastern part of the city, and connecting the Trillium line to the Leitrim park and ride in the south. Unfortunately the former won't be open for at least two years and the latter won't be running until late this year at the earliest. I don't know whether they plan to add park and ride facilities to the western end of the LRT. Moodie station is a long way from the Eagleson, Innovation, and Palladium park and rides.
@@pscheu100you should’ve parked at Place D’Orléans and bussed to Blair. I don’t condone park & rides, especially for mainline rapid transit stations. It can be acceptable if they’re in a suburban area & connected via buses.
maybe Canadian cities should start looking for advisors from developed Asian countries for help on how to great transit, it will help the city government to earn more in the long run, benefit the residence and the earth
I don't live in Ottawa but from what I have gathered, the LRT was likely rushed into opening before all of the issues and defects were worked out. I have also heard about door jams that have delayed trains for hours. I believe at least part of that has to do with people running to catch a train and sticking their arms in between the doors as they close. I put that on the inexperience of the public here. Train doors are not elevator doors. Trains won't run if a door isn't closed properly.
Not "likely" .. it was knowingly put into full service expectations before being ready for full service taking on all the bus volumes after the city refused to do a soft launch and deferred hiring, causing resource shortages that the city needed a solution to. They reduced km delivery targets from 98% to 96% to get that done. PS: it's now mostly 99%-100% delivered.
Temporary Speed Restrictions while they find a solution to a mismatch on 32 curves for the wheel-to-rail interface, mostly the east alignment from Lees to Cyrville. Really, not the best choice of alignment east of Hurdman Bridge.
And no, it isn't to realign the alignment or track sections. You want to do that, it's better to just build another extension that doesn't have as frequent curves.

Seems quite slow in some places.
Missed the premier - did not get Notification
Very nice system. Looks really good. Difficult to believe it was not constructed properly.
How nice these systems look when they are brand new!
Nice video of the Ottawa light rail. Thanks Tim😀💚
this is a controversial train
The train isn't. The launch period was.
Wonderful 😮

That's not been an issue, except at Eagleson, but not related to LRT. In fact, there's too much parking space at a very new suburban Park & Ride.

I want at least 62 of thus lrv to serve JB, Malaysia
Do you can visit Japan?
Why so slow along some sections?
So a train won't derail again (3 derailments already) until they figure out how to re-align track sections and fix the trains overly-complex bogies
@Ken a number is off. It was 2 mainline derailments, one more expected, one should not have happened. Yard derailments aren't unusual.

Это не метро. Это два трамвая.
Ninguém falou que é um metrô 🤷♀️
Ottawa is boring cold and small city
A disaster.
