I rode a Street Scrambler when they first came out and loved it. Found it a bit cramped for a bulky sort of bloke like me but still fell in love with it. This XC model looks very similar to the 900 just a bit bigger with more oomph.

It's a beautiful bike to look at but too heavy, big and expensive to use it as a scrambler (at least for most), heat from exhaust is hard to deal with (same issue with the Street Scrambler) and no cure for it. It's an issue in city traffic and everything above reasonable temperature (20C and up). All in all a nice accessory to be parked in your garage to show to guests but not a overly useable bike and that comes from a real Triumph fanboy! Nice first impression vid TMF - it was good to hear that you dared to address the heat issue (no other reviewer did). Stay safe.

@@TheMissendenFlyer TMF (calling you TMF seems odd 2 me) - I enjoy your being honest and that's why I watch your vids. I wonder how your bikes doing you recently acquired - no news on them since you revealed the purchase. I'm considering a T120 after having ridden the Street Twin, Street Scrambler and Scrambler XC - which I all liked for the looks but engine heat (Scramblers) and cramped riding position (Street Twin) turned me towards the T120. You correctly mentioned in your review that the T120 needs force to go around corners - but did you also notice that it tilts if you go very slow (eg turning in a small road in city traffic)? Felt like the old 900 Scrambler having the same strange steering . Stay safe

My ScramblerXE (nicknamed - The Bison) and I are best friends...after 7 months and 8500 miles...we’re one. I’m 6’2” and 250lbs and the bike looks and fits like it was built for me. I love it...love it love it. The exhaust has never bothered me...of course it’s hot but what would one expect? Power and handling is awesome...after adjusting the suspension for my Off-Road style and of course my daily commute, I can quickly dial front and rear to my marked settings as needed. A fresh set of Continental TrailAttack3 tires take the bike to another level...stock Tourances were mediocre at best. Anyhow, XE or XC...the Scrambler 1200 is legit! About to go out and give mine a much needed bath...heavy rains and irresistible muddy trails around the house have her looking rough! Ride on!
    Lastly.
Mirrors - agreed...the one thing I hate. Swapped the same style out on my 2005 Bonneville too. Replaced mine with DoubleTake ADV mirrors.
Toggle/controls - easily adapted and work great without issue once you’ve hit the break-in period service.

I got an unbelievable deal on one just before Triumphs year end. It was a 603 mile round trip to get it on one of the hottest days of the year, on the way there my old bike was reading 35°c while filtering around the M25. On the way back it felt hotter, sadly the XC hasn’t got a outside temperature gauge but when down to about 40 mph in traffic I could feel the heat from the exhaust pipes. However as soon as I was out of traffic they soon cooled down. I’ve ridden the bike all summer around the twisty’s in Wales and the exhaust hasn’t been an issue but there’s rarely traffic where I live. Got to be honest, I love it and sounds awesome echoing around the valleys.

I got my 1200 XC a few weeks ago - and I absolutely love it! I traded in an awesome 2016 T120, that I loved, and only this iteration of the Triumph 1200 could convince me to do so. So cool, powerful, and comfortable!
BTW : We've had real-feel temperatures of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for the last week here in Ohio and I honestly haven't been bothered by the exhaust heat. I wear Kevlar-lined jeans and ride mostly country roads and haven't had any issues at all. I recognize that the heat may increase in stop-and-go traffic but it shouldn't be enough to discourage anyone from this fantastic motorcycle.

Tires that have this kind of tread, still make weary of any hard-core off reading other than gravel roads/lanes. Too slippery for my liking, but..like the bike for sure. I love the saddlebag that converts into a carry bag. Definitely need a deep bag if it's only to be a one sided bag option. The handguards I could see myself doing, the extra lamps, yup. Just as this sits in the video, would be my options. Perhaps slightly, slightly more knobs on those tires

Both the XC and XE are great bikes. Being tall I bought the XE and for the £800 extra I feel you get some added extras that are worth the price and I prefer the looks. However this one looks great in black. Had one hot summers ride where the exhaust felt hot whilst queuing but otherwise I love everything about the bike.

Martyn Laverick ...I had the same problem regards the heat...fitted the tank pads, that throws your knees off about 10 mm...But a Free Spirits de cat is on the cards I think. It’s expensive mind, so I might send the pipe to Tec bike parts...take a look on you tube...he’ll de cat the original for £80.00,

Proportion vise I think this one looks better that the XE, also I really dislike the golden front forks, just looks silly on most bikes, why Triumph will not give this version the same electronic package is unacceptable as the models cater to different riders.
About the instrument cluster I agree, a retro looking bike should have old style clocks with a smaller oled screen in between, aka t120 or the 900rs.
Also one thing that should be forbidden by the authorities is key less for motorcycles, who ever thought that was a good idea must be a car person, stupidly!
      Great review as always.

Great review. Would definitely go for this model over the XE. Any chance of a review of the latest Street Scrambler. I rode the pre-updated model and thought it was a great bike, I still think I'd choose it over the 1200. I think the smaller engined bike is better suited to the retro scrambler idea and (in my opinion at least) the smaller bike looks better.

I tried the 2017 scrambler 900cc and I liked it ,but could not get over how my right leg felt like it was out in the traffic because of that high level exhaust protruding out. So I went for a Street twin instead .

Mmmm, wonder if I would have bought the Ducati 1100 Scrambler Special if these had been around a year ago. Triumph would have been a better fit at my 6.4 height. 🤔

    • @JustPlainBill0

At 6'4", almost any bike would have been a better choice than an 1100 Scrambler. I had to get a "comfort" seat (+1" height and not especially "comfortable) for mine and lower the foot rest 1 5/8" to get any relief from the cramped riding position, and I'm only 5'10" (but really old & creaky).

Thank you for posting. Good looking bike. At first, I was not all that crazy about the pipes being on the side, but they seem to be growing on me. I most likely missed it, but does it come with heated grips, are they an option, or they are not available?

    • @karlosh9286

I think Triumph will put heated grips on all their bikes. They're something like a £200 + fitting option on the cheaper Modern Classics.

Had one for 6 months this year, found it very top heavy, exhaust absolutely unbearable in the summer even with a decat, tried to sell it back to a truimph dealer, they did not want it and said that they where not worth the PX price quoted in the glasses guide about £1000 less, wiring around the headstock started to wear after 1000 miles.
Great bike to look at and ride, fantastic engine and comfort up to 70mph though.

Sometimes I regret getting my T120 instead of this. But honestly it’s too pretty to get aggressive off-road with. I’m going to go out and buy a used DRZ or KLR for $2500, something that is designed to drop/scratch up!

Enjoyed that, I really like the look of the XC (though I'd go for the green one). I think this one looks more authentic than the XE, where those big forks look a bit OTT to me - all down to what you like, and whether you'd actually go off-road. BTW, someone has probably mentioned, but it's only an £800 difference between base XC and XE models ;-)

What do you mean "authentic", the original scramblers were the most flashy bikes of the range, 1970 t100c had metal flake purple paint, high level chrome exhaust's and mudguards. Norton's and bsa's were the same.
