Visited Kings Island after 30 years this past Sunday. I was a teenager when I was there last. Vortex was my first real coaster experience with a loop and I loved it. Now I’m in my forties with a wife and two daughters. The girls rode it with me and they loved it as well. It, too, was their first real coaster experience with a loop. I’m glad we got to go this past Sunday to unknowingly enjoy it one last time. I rode it four times that day. Thanks for the fun, Vortex!!
Wow!!!/!!/ I am in this commercial! This was filmed on March 30th 1987. It was cold as hell that day but the sky was nice sunny and blue....... Love it!!! Former Kings Island Employee from 1985-1989.
Does anyone remember that year at the park they had the metalic hand painted on the ground like a path way to the ride like they used to do with the bear claw feet for the beast? I seem to remember that the year it came out.
@KiddJetix I grew up on these rides. Now that I am 25 I have a season platinum pass and go to Cedar Point and Kings Island as much as possible. I here some younger kids saying "man this ride sucks". I have to tell them though. Think about 20 or 30 years ago. This was the main ride. These are the classics. I even grew up on these rides. Amusment parks are for amazement yes. At the same time it is to look at the old going wow. Than at the new going look how far roller coasters have come.
when I was a kid and saw the loops in the commercial, I thought, "No way I would get on that" but then when my son was 12 and I rode it, I could not understand why he was afraid and would not... Wow man,. this thing is coming up on 25 years? Seems like they just built it last year. Time flies faster than any coaster out there :(
I know people think it's sinking, and I understand why (the footers look as if they are) But no ones seems to question the proof as to how people KNOW it's not. I don't think it is, but how do we KNOW it's not sinking??

I miss this coaster
I remember dry run day that year. I was going to ride it but it snowed a lot, Blizzard. Great Ride. 1986-1995 employee.

I think they were preparing us for the eventual robot uprising in the mid 90s - they were only 15 years off...
They told us that kings island is removing one of their coaster for their 2020 plans

I heard from several of my friends that they're going to take this ride out because it's sinking.
