Today we're tackling a suuuper interesting, super in depth, and SUPER critical part of the build....We're fabricating and installing the rudder! Like most projects up until this point, it has involved me using techniques and materials I've never used before, and had me cratching my head more than once. It turned out to be an absolute BEAST of a project, and it required quite a lot of improvising and creative problem solving, which is as fun as it is challenging. And in the end, we could not be any happier with how it turned out! For all my fellow geeks who like to get really deep into the nitty gritty of it all, you're going to LOVE this one I think 🥳

Your mustage would be much funnier if you had left the upper beard only 2 inches just under the nose.
karen confront the fear...take up herpetology you will rapidly overcome the phobia and probably begin cultivating them for the food they provide and there ease of farming as well as the probability that the reptiles your feeding them to being probably more visually triggering
Breeyawn, your Dad`s face most closely resembles you with this look. YAY!
Would a Hitler moustache be too soon? 😁
I have a real distaste for NordVPN ever since they had been hacked and then tried to hide the fact from their customers. So when a RUclips channel is sponsored by them it kind of turns me off. I mean there are other VPN services out there nor can't be the only one that you can be sponsored by. My two cents.
Dan and his crew are such incredibly talented fabricators -- it is amazing to watch
I'm sure I am not the only one that does this but... I instantly hit the Like button before the video even starts. I just know that the video is going to be great. There's never been a Delos video I didn't enjoy thoroughly. There have been some sad ones, when crews have left the boat, but they've all been so fun and great to watch. It's equally amazing to watch Sierra grow up. Having two daughters and 7 grandkids, 5 of which are girls, it reminds me of so many memories of them growing up and being Sierra's age. All the best as Delos 2.0 continues its😉🍷 journey!
Same same, love delos videos! They've created my sailing dreams ⛵️
💯🤟🏻
I did exactly the same. Wharton a project
Same here I have been watching since rhe biggining. My wife and I were bing watching the early episodes one saturday and a couple of night from then I had a Dreams I was working on a huge ship and we saw Delos on the Radar so the Captain called all of us to the desk and told us we were going to do a drive by and play their intro son load on the intercalm. We all will be on deck naked Drinking a Beer waving as we go buy and then he will call delos and we will give them a case of beer.
I do it foe Delos and sail life lol. no one else though
This has been one of my favorite build series ever.
Amateur welder and machinist, retired engineer. Seeing the design -build and the work that goes into going from plans to a functioning boat is fascinating. I'm impressed with collaboration you've established with the folks at Stadbroke and give them credit both for their fab skill and their openness to including you as part of their team.
As I self just gone through a prostate cancer treatment, and both my older brothers and late father also has suffered from it, I'm very greatful that you highlight and support the fight agaist prostate cancer. Thank you! ❤
I'm 71 and had my prostate removed in 2016 by robotic surgery!! I'm the only one in my family to have it. I am glad to report I am cancer free!!
@@benjaminspencer6507. Congratulations on kickin the C to the curb. Many more years ahead to enjoy.
Dan: `Half as heavy as two of them together.` FTW
Dan and Kurt are hilarious!
Thanks for bringing us along on this amazing boat build. What you and the guys from Stradbroke are doing is just flat out fun to watch!
I love the mix of hard core serious construction, then funny parts like drawing the mustache on his face. This series is awesome!
Brilliant work guys! Watching the rudders being built was impressive. Dan is quite the master fabricator!
The engineering on the rudder is incredible and fascinating
Great to be able to have so many real hours with hands on yourself.👍
Brian & Kazza, love watching the puzzle being put together. She is a beauty. YOU GUYS ROCK!❤❤❤
Look forward to your posts every week . Glad to see you are getting used to and embracing our Aussie humour.
The level of accuracy is fascinating! WOW!
There is more to building an aluminum boat, than I thought.. Enjoying your build. I hope you are also enjoying the Aussie humor.
Amazing stuff. Thinking something like a chefs pastry bag you could squeeze would help with the Orange goop
Love how far you have come in the last 5 or 6 years I have been watching. Look forward to seeing 2.0 under sail
Wow! What an amazing build - with such a GREAT BUNCH of Aussie guys! You made the right decision doing this in Australia! 💕🚀
Dan's the man! He really knows is stuff.
I have been a welder fabricator for 45 years and watching your build is fascinating and very enjoyable.
Even in times of fun, you guys get serious!!! Thanks for the support for prostate cancer. I'm in the U.S. and I'm a prostate cancer survivor!! Prostat removed in 2016.
My husband, as well as myself love your boat build. He really appreciates it as when I i met him he was working for a boat builder on Cape Cod in New England. He built small weekend sailing boats built for the bay only. He also worked on commercial drift fishing boats as a teenager. He also commercial fished out of a 19' Chris Craft in board that had a stuffing box, it had a lap streak hull, oak over mahogany. It was possibly to fish with it as long as he stayed in Cape Cod Bay as he mostly long lined for Cod and in the summer months rod a reel fishing for striped bass. A few times I i remember watching him leave the harbor and go out an inlet to get to his fishing equipment. There were times i coukd not see him his helper or his boat as he wntered into the swells of the inlet - all the while i looked on from the hill . In the same boat, him and I wrnt out fishing one time to do some rod and reel fishing as my favorite catch was flounder. Sometimes my husband also did some 'jigging'. But this one particular day a storm came in fast, and in order to go in we had to go out first to follow the waves back in through the inlet. The waves came at the 19 footer. It had a windshield like a dodger with a canvas topper. The wheel was under the canvas along with a full bench across the beam. We both huddled under, but a gig wave hit us and went over the windshield and canvas. All i saw was green water and i swear I saw fish.
We really enjoy all your adventures. The education and experiences your little one is getting irriplaceable.
Now your roach problem! We have two types her in Florida. There us the german roach and the palmetto bug. Im more interested in a natural approach. With palmetto's i have found that water with a little bit if dish soap and put in a soray bottle with a setting also for a stream is very good. When you see them spray them, in time they come out and die, because their protection gets washed off. I recently found a powder made from 1 part sugar with one part baking soda. This is suppose to kill both ants and roaches . Don't know if this will help.
Looking forward how your inteior design is going to look, especially the colors you select.
Lovin your experiences with the building of your dreams. I'm a retired motorsports engineer and believe Brian is very good at explaining what's going on that a layman could understand. Enjoy!!
Dan the Man! Impressive metalworking knowledge
The welding projects are GREAT to watch and its awesome to hear the explanation of how you guys are gonna do it. Learned interesting things. 🎉.
Still laugh at Nuggs doing the woo hoo to end the video.Loving it❤
My favorite part of each video also
Like it? I like it a lot!
Hi Folks. I am glad to see the way your cat is coming along. It is going to be a very special boat when finished. Congratulations to all concerned. Unfortunately for me I was in Brisbane for a few weeks but didn't make the time to come and see you. I am back home in South Australia on my House Boat on the River Murray. This is a great life living on the water as well just way different to what you guys do. I will be back in Brisbane towards the end of June and if you are still there I will make a point of dropping in. I have many back grounds and can fully appreciate the enormous task you are doing so well done. Once again congratulations on a job well done and I look forward to following you and seeing the end product. Happy Sailing, fair winds and may there be calm seas ahead for you all.
Run towards what scares you. Great job, Brian! The build is coming along so dang fast :)
Great engineering job on that rudder, Brian! May it hold fast for the entire life of SV Delos II!
Everything about aluminum boat construction has been fascinating so far. How wonderful to know your boat inside out.
If I were a Gibraltar Orca, I wouldn't want to take on those rudders. Great job. It's fascinating to watch this build. When she's completed, this will be one heck of a splash day!
I've been watching so many boat work videos across different youtube channels, I feel that metal work is refreshing after i know everything about working with fiberglass :) Love these videos. Aluminium seems such an awesome material.
What an experience, just building your own boat/home from scratch. These are so fun to watch it come together.
Love the content with your build of Delos 2.0. I cannot wait to see it finished, i know it will be a minute but the wait is killing me. I know it far worse for you!! I just love your family, thank you for sharing.
What a great fabrication? So amazing to see. Thank you for letting us be part of it
Good to see the boat coming together so nicely. Cheers from Canada.
I am loving, watching these “build” videos. I am amazed at the intricacies of building something as seemingly simple as the rudder system. While being incredibly tedious you must experience a great feeling of accomplishment at the completion of each task. After viewing for so many years I feel as if I kind of know you “guys”, so now I can say… love ya’ll.❤
Your intelligence, schooling and an engineer makes this build an amazing watch! I can’t believe how fast this build is moving.❤
Great post and update my friends. I still get "giddy" in my heart when I see you two and remember grabbing a hug from each of you at the boat show! Much love, care and blessings to you and your channel/ efforts. 🌞🌴⛵. 💛😇
Covergence of intelligence, experience, creativity, passion, and sheer will is happening here. Thank you for sharing the master class.
Great work, Bryan, Kass, and Dan!
something Im always thinking about with my boat is (how will I fix that later) as you completed the rudder bearing install I thought! "how do you...Replace that" an aluminum hull gives you lots of options to fix things along the way, now that you are working on fitment of the bits and bobs to the boat I would also be interesting to add in a bit of....and this is how we will be able to fix/repair or maintain this in the future. I can see this is a big part of the thought process so far, it might ad a bit more content that I think would be super interesting!
as always thanks for sharing all your progress
I was going to ask the same question (about future maintenance). All bearings wear over time, in an ocean environment there is also a possibility growth/corrosion issues as well the normal damage risk. The first thing I thought was maybe that stuff can be dissolved with an acid/solvent to allow removal. With luck they should last 20+ years I'd hope but I know personally I don't get that kind of luck :P
Coming from an aviation background I always think about which maintenance window does this come under, daily/weekly/monthly/yearly/refit and these definitely seem to fit into the refit window. A valid option but it would still be interesting to see the thought process (even if it is cutting out the rudder tubes and replacing them completely).
On that note I would be really interested to see what the 'owners maintenance schedule' looks like when done. I guess Brian is still creating it as they build, I assume some choices have still yet to be made, but I'm not sure if I've heard them mention the maintenance preferences and the design choices they have made around this (always a compromise but an interesting part of the design process).
@@whome1780 - its just a sleave, you can take the baring out I believe. and if you need to get the leave out then you'll probably have to cut it out.
@whome1780 Thanks for pointing this out. I think that often design professionals don't consider maintenance when they create products, and designing/fabricating your own end product puts that ability back into the user's hands. I'm also curious to hear about how those decisions have affected the build.
I'm glad the bearings is in. i was a little worried. You all sure make it look easy and fun. Keep up the good work. Best sailing channel on the tube.
This already is, and will be, the best aluminium catamaran build series on youtube. Good luck to someone trying to do more comprehensive "how to" than this, and a damn fine looking Cat youve guys have built. Impressive design, and A1 build from the team. You've put the shop on the international stage, and they produced👍👌🇦🇺
Thank you for the adventure you take us on we love each one
I’m soooo excited for you guys watching you every week come that much closer to launching the boat what a special experience it will be when you’re sitting in your new home knowing the story and nuances of absolutely every part. It just fills me with joy to see such special people build their dreams like this. Nice one Dan for making this happen! Love you guys! ✨✨✨
Really impressed
This build series is facinating, fun and awesome to watch. Thanx you two
Super cool video this week! Can't wait for the fitout and system install work to begin! Thanks for another great Friday release
WOW, you all made it seem so easy....amazing progress
Thumbs up for the solid life lines. Some previous owner had our Jeauneau fitted with solid life lines. So much better.
What about strop placement for liftouts, boarding access from a jetty or recovering bulky items aboard?
Roach Phobia Tip: Flame Thrower 😊😁
Brian, your mustachio looks good on you. It gives you a rebel look. Delos 2.0 is really progressing well. Thanks for taking us on this journey.
The rudder is a piece of art! Such precise and fantasti. work. Well done.
Hi Guys, I really love the build videos. Ive been with La Vagabond for many years & joined you guys following a comment from Riley recommending you guys. So glad I’m now on crew with Delos. My wife & I live on the mid north coast of NSW. Cheers guys. 🏆
Its really great how you found the best guys to build you's a boat.
That was interesting to see all the work involved in making the rudders - well done
So the welding is almost finished, great job Dan and crew (yes you 2 Brian). Looking great, can't w8 to see what Kazz does with the interior fit out. See ya next week.
It is going to be extremely exciting to see this boats shake down - all of the custom items coming to life on the water.
Great work on the rudders! Chockfast is great stuff, I've used it many times for setting engine mounts in place on tugboats.
I hit the like button straight away as well, it worries me that I get so absorbed by Brian’s technology that I forget to like before the end of the video, lm impressed by how substantial the whole project is and l can’t wait to see Delos 11 in the water, what a party that will be 🇬🇧
Chalkfast, I enjoy learning new stuff in your vids. good deal, Glenn
It’s *Chockfast.
Love the technical details in your presentation. Doing a great job.
Great exchange for my time! It’s loads of fun seein Delos II come to fruition!
Delightful . 🎼🎼🎶🎵Yet I miss the “ Ramikanji “ opening . This sound is part of the Delos videos experience
I've done quite a bit of Chock Fasting and your cautious approach served you well!
On a large ferry putting in a near horizontal propeller shaft liner of a few meters length I made a pressure pot that could hold about 10L filled it and applied compressed air at low pressure. It worked really well!
Excited to see the beginning of phase 2!
Brian, you are killing it, with the Ron Jeremy stash
Interesting observation about the similarities of rudder fabrication and sewing. Same procedure, but different materials and skill sets.
I love the fabrication. This is an Incredible build!
Can I make a request, I'd like to see a show just on the welders and the equipment that they are using. Also their techniques would be great. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. It's technical as you can get it. I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering. And on a side note y'all got that Magnum PI Vibe going. Thank you for doing it me being a vet of 8 years. Love you guys and the boat looks great
Nice to see Brian picking up the Aussie sense of humour, great episode as always, Dan is a star.
Good to see finally a proper rudder(s). God Jul for all of you
That’s gonna be one badass looking boat Brian!
The wiping face was golden!
Absolutely no clue what was happening with the bearings - thanks for sharing ⛵️ 👍
love the stash :D great progress !
Love your videos, a delicate balance between what is being achieved and focus on the persons involved.
Greetings from a retired South African Boer.
I was just thinking about how the pattern drafting and fitting of fine tailored garments requires the same skillset as boat building! I love that you said that ❤️
Thanks for sharing your family with us 😸
I think those rudders should be fairly Orca proof. Great design!!!
Hey guys hope all is going ship shape and Bristol fashion with that awesome boat build! What a ship she will be! High to all the build crew and your special guest star Burt Reynolds!! Wow what a catch getting him on the show!! Xxx He’s the spitting image of Brian😂😂😂😂😂
Great video, love watching this build. The boat is really coming along.
Dan is looking sharp with the mustache. 😊
The stache looks good.
I'm really enjoying this boat build
I cannot express to you how much I have enjoyed watching you sail and now going through this process. I am thoroughly impressed. You are an inspiration. I will be watching the day that you launch Delos 2 and jumping for joy. Got a little crush on Dan too, I will admit lol!
Your catamaran is looking amazing and coming together so quickly can't wait to see the finished product and how you design the inside and what you materials you use for the decor and what you're doing with the outside of the boat.🙂🙂❤
PM, I just love the perfectly imperfect bathroom., from the heart..
Thank you for sharing....what an adventure...
Initially, when you mentioned gluing the bearing for the rudder in place my heart sank. Then you described how it's an industrial product. And I also know that you have taken that very seriously as a very seasoned sailor and engineer should. Not that my opinion matters but my fears have been eased because of your experience and knowledge of the product. Made for good content because my heart was beating!!
Excellent as Usual!!!
Looks like fun!! You guys will know your boat inside and backwards and inside out. Keep up the good work and fun! I kept waiting thinking I would see a tube that those bearings would set into. Just the way I think about it, the rudderstock would slide into a tube or not.
Who knew building a rudder would be this interesting.
Stradbroke Yatch Rock!!
I’m curious if you considered pumping the Chockfast instead of using gravity. It also seems that it could be helpful to have something to vibrate the bearings to remove air. Also I would definitely have had my mixed product in an ice bucket to keep it from going off
WOW....good luck....you're going to need it now....
I would have put that Chalk Fast under a little pressure to force it in, like a caulk gun, to make sure it is filling the voids before the stuff starts to harden.
Can't wait to see the boat in the water! I think it is going to be fantastic!
