    Class a mode sounds fuller. So it’s not just louder it’s louder in certain frequencies - it seems like the sound is richer in the bottom half. It’s not a big difference at all but it’s perceptible and preferable.

    I appreciate your realistic approach to these reviews. To be honest, I don't trust people who say they can hear the difference between similar DACs (basically any DAC made after the year 2000), or who say they can hear the difference between hi-res audio formats. I feel like people who claim such hearing ability are most likely delusional or flexing their egos. In fact, I don't find such claims remotely impressive - I find them annoying, deceptive, and distinctly self-aggrandizing. So all of that's just to say thanks for your reviews, please keep them coming - your approach is grounded and actually informative.

      this is the importance of trying it out yourself. In this horribly subjective hobby, different people might appreciate the difference differently. Some might think the little difference is awesome, some just meh, and too bad sometimes people doesn't feel the differences yet they speak like so. For me, hiby's DAP, especially R6iii is the one I can feel the differences than the one like fiio m11s or shanling m6. To be honest, I don't really feel the differences between m11s and m6 and my fiio Q11 DAC/Amp, but for me (personally), hiby r6iii is a worth to buy if you are looking for some more dynamic feeling, more nuances feeling, and so on

  • @MobileDecay
    @MobileDecay Год назад +5

    There was an update to the device and now the class sounds a smidge different. It's nothing amazing and barely noticeable but when you switch it now you will hear a small tick and there's a small difference but not worth the battery life. They also fixed issues I had with Amazon music where the first album would play muted and I would have to pause it and unpause it to get sound as well as every song only playing at cd quality. For anyone who cares. =)

    Not a fan of having the volume nob on the side of the DAP and I don't really mind if the output are top or bottom; nut having the volume button at the opposite end of the output will be kind of irritating for me whenever i need to make volume adjustment from song to song on the go with the player being in my jeans pocket or in my pouch.

    11:00 The way I see bottom vs top headphone port debate, it comes down to where do you see the player being the most, and where the controls are. And now I think about it in depth, you've just convinced me not to get the HiBy R6 Gen3.
    On the bottom is nice if you plan on holding it a lot or keeping it in jacket pockets, but you also really want the volume controls as close to the side as possible so they can be operated with just your thumb, regardless if it uses buttons or a knob. But, having the ports on the top is way better if you plan on carrying it in your pants pockets, or if your jacket has vertical "tech pockets", in which case you also really want a volume knob at the top too. Both volume control orientations offer maximum volume control with minimum movement from their port orientations' optimal postures, making for a very comfortable usage experience. And the 3rd group that often goes ignored in this discussion, desk users. The only additional requirements from top ports is that the USB port MUST be on the bottom, and the software should offer a screen orientation flip so you can operate it while using it as a DAC.
    The HiBy R6 Gen3 doesn't fully satisfy any one style's ergonomics. The headphone jacks are on the bottom of the device, fine for handheld, but It also has a guarded volume knob on the top and no digital volume control on the side, so you can't adjust it while it's in any kind of pocket. Unless the transport controls can be remapped to volume, you can't easily change volume while using it. The volume knob on the top is convenient for a desk orientation, but with the headphone jacks at the same end as the type-C port it creates undue cable kinks. Yet they remembered to add an orientation flip option to make desk usage easier with top mounted ports it doesn't have? The tech specs are great, but the ergonomics of the R6 G3 make no sense.

    • @SuperReview

      AK players are half scam. They do look good, better than the rest, but the sound quality and power are nothing special. I remember how gutted I was when I bought a Kann and a Kann Alpha on Ebay. No more AK for me. I now have the R6 III and an ibasso DX170. The iBasso sounds almost as good but it is too underpowered for the intended usage. Tidal offline doesn't work most of the time, music stops and shutters, no way and that is too bad: it is lighter, cheaper and more powerful than the R6. Screen is also better.

      I have a Hidizs AP80 Pro-X which uses a Hiby OS.
      My content on the SD card is organized into folders by artist and album.
      My library consists of over 22,000 tracks.
      When I import the SD card content into the internal music database, it reads 20,000 tracks, then stops.
      There is some content which is not read into the music database, and is not accessible using this app.
      All content is available by directly accessing the SD Card.
      The difference is that by having to access content directly from the SD card, there is no cover art available when
      scrolling through the artists and albums. It definitely lessens the user experience.
      I wish the Hiby OS would be updated to read in more tracks, but that would probably
      require the device to have more internal memory dedicated to the music database app.

    Hey Mark what's up?
    Man, you got me all worried continuously saying all these DAPs sound the same. You seriously hear absolutely no difference between the iBasso DX300 and any of these entry/midfi players? Really?
    I'm thinking on pulling the trigger to get an M8 from Musicteck, but what's the point if it sounds exactly the same as any other $300 player with the exception of output power?
    By the way, I heard you talk about the parametric EQ. You may want to try the Lotoo Paw600 and the Lotoo Paw Gold Touch. I think those are the only players on the market that come up with that feature.

    • @SuperReview
      @SuperReview  Год назад +3

      The DAPs all sound essentially the same. If I'm A-B testing specific loops of a song with both units side by side and quickly switching, I can often hear minor differences but they're not differences I'd even be confident identifying with a blindfold and are only perceptible in that careful listening scenario, so they don't matter to me. I would not make purchase decisions based on them.

    • @elbonja
      @elbonja Год назад

      @@SuperReview are you trying the same IEMs and headphones? What about sound signature?
      I've never tried players from Sony or Shanling, but I've heard their DAPs tend to sound a bit more "colored", adding more warmth to the signature. I did try some FiiO and Hiby players and yes, they sound analytical, specially FiiO.
      For example, what's your favorite IEM? Blessing 2?(Let's call it Blessing 2 for the sake of argument)
      If you plug in the Blessing 2 to every single player you have, I believe you'd hear some differences, not sure if you'd hear more technicalities though..... So i guess it's a matter of differences, excluding the chances of certain DAPs being better than others regardless of price.
      So... Out of all the expensive DAPs you've tried, besides sound signature, they all have the same level of refinement and technical abilities?

    • @codyghind
      @codyghind Год назад +1

      @@elbonja You might want to consider the concept of placebo and how it affects our perception and ability of discerning and evaluating qualitative nuances. I think what Mark is saying is, if you do a proper ABX test with all other parameters equal (no knowledge of sound source, same device chain, volume matched tracks etc.) you also won't be able to tell the difference between DACs/DAPs. In all other, less than ideal testing scenarios, power of placebo and/or short audible memory might make you think device A is more analytical, device B is warmer and so on. This applies to most people, at least.

    • @elbonja
      @elbonja Год назад +3

      @@codyghind I'm well aware of the placebo effect in music. But I did try 2 DAPs(Hiby RS2 and FiiO M11 Pro). I did hear differences, but I suppose it's a matter of interpretation knowing and understanding sound differences, not one over the other in terms of sound quality.
      There's a lot more to be considered; quality of the headsets, tunning of headsets, amplification, etc...
      I do agree with Mark on this one, but I'm still not convinced that every single DAP sound the same. As I said, I've only compared 2 DAPs and they both sound different, not day and night but I did hear a difference.

    • @SuperReview

      2. but they're not differences I'd even be confident identifying with a blindfold

    The main selling point/reason to buy a HiBy DAP is for the Class A Amplification not using it kind of makes getting one a little silly because that's what you're paying for.
    I understand you don't hear a difference between Class A and Class AB but many of us out here do.
    I do like Class A better than Class AB however, to me there is a very audible difference and I feel kind of sad that you can not hear it because that means you're actually missing out on something that many of us can hear and have proven it to ourselves in blind AB testing...
    Thanks for the review because you did an excellent job of covering a lot of what this DAP can and does do.
    Although I think it's sad that you can't hear the difference Class A amplification brings to the table.
    The 5 mins or so of talking about the fake leather sticker you put on the back was kind of weird but also funny to hear you go on about it.

    Recommending the R6 Gen3 as best for streaming is a bum steer. If you rely on streaming services for your music, you will probably want to use the download for offline listening option on a portable device, and the R6 Gen3 sucks at this, you will be waiting several minutes for a streaming app to read the sd card. This player is only suitable for people with their own music libraries to install on it imho
