I did a write up of the mosky deluxe preamp and turbo amp. They are the EXACT same pedal and the use the EXACT same circuit board and components. The only difference is the amp turbo doesn't use the toggles and leaves them off the pcb. But you could easily add them if you wanted. Because of the I recommend the deluxe preamp. With the overdrive side both toggles far right and boost side toggle up is how the amp turbo is permanently set. I nodded the boost side to have a cleaner boost in one position and to be more like an actual COT50 in the other position.
First, GREAT video, hoss... I'm an overdrive junky, and after months of tryin to find MY sound, I've decided on the Joyo JF-311 "Blue Rain", it's a blues driver style OD that DOESN'T have that ANNOYING (to ME, lol) mid hump, it just sounds like YOUR guitar and amp, with some break up... BUT, I also tried the Joyo Baatsin which has 8 popular ODs from The Timmy, to TubeScreamers, to OD-1 to a "Marshall-In-A-Box", but I also ordered a Mosky Golden Horse Klon Klone, and DESPITE the mids, I love it... BUT, last night I ordered a modified Mosky Super Rat on eBay last night, and started lookin for video demos and I came across this video, and it sure looks like I'm gonna HAVE to order one of these two...
Hey. Thx for the comment hoss! (I’ve never been called hoss before, very dukes of hazard!!)so I know what you mean about with mid boost pedals. It seems like every drive pedal out there is a mid boost of some sort. Mid boost absolutely has it’s uses in playing blues and getting lead tones but I do t like them for break up generally at all. If you are looking for breakup tones I’d recommend the amp turbo.
Here I am Rob( is it your name? )! I have the same impression with the gold one: love the drive but clarity is missing somewhere. But I might say it seems to work with you telecaster better than with strat....!I had the opportunity to get a Centaur, and play on other good ones, and .....but I keep all my Mosky's od on another pedalboard!! 🙏🎸
Hi Arnaud. Thanks for checking out this video. I think the silver horse is a great pedal but clarity and attack is what the Klon is known for and this pedal is never gonna have that fidelity but it really does beef up a tele beautifully.
The toggles were inside of the original Timmy pedal that this is based on. You were supposed to switch one off if you wanted asymmetrical clipping. On the MXR Timmy, this was replaced with a three-position toggle on the outside. Using two toggles is less elegant, but does the same thing. One off and one on produces different order harmonics in your distortion. On the boost side, the Amp 11 used an Electra distortion circuit, which is also the main circuit of the Lovepedal Church of Tone, or CoT, pedal. I guess the toggle here removes clipping too for a cleaner boost? I'm sure the Chinese version uses different parts, but yours sounds like the AMP 11 I owned.
Hi Andrew. Thx for the comment. I did t know the deluxe preamp was based on the Timmy. That interesting. To be honest I’m not really up on pedal innards so I’m just listening for what the switches do. It’s good to know now though thx!
You're correct I traced the cor unit for both the amp turbo and deluxe preamp. They use the exact same pcb with the only difference being the amp turbo doesn't use toggle switches and leaves them off the board. The amp turbo is the same as having the deluxe preamp with the overdrive toggles both right for least compression and on the boost side having the switch up. So you are best off just getting the deluxe preamp. And again your spot on about it being based off the original timmy with options for symmetrical or asymmetrical clipping and it also allows you to select which half of the wave clips more which really isnt a very useful option for most people who are going to be buying these pedals. The 3 way toggle that Paul Cochran went to is just a simpler less complicated design. As for the boost side mods what is actually happening is one side uses schottky diodes like an actual amp 11 boost side and the other position uses typical 1N4148's. And the schottky diode pair is in parallel so both diodes are side by side oriented in the same direction which makes them boost more but clip less. This isnt how the stand alone COT50 is done but I do believe it's how the Amp11 boost side is configured because it works better as a boost that way. And lovepedal does say that the COT50 side of the amp11 is unique to that pedal and not the same as the stand alone version. I opted to mod the diodes in my deluxe preamp so that I have one position that stays very clean like an amp11 COT50 and the other toggle position is grittier with less volume but more breakup. I think that the deluxe preamp boost mods were lost in translation because each setting sounds too similar in practice despite being different diodes and diode orientation/symmetry. But over all it's a great pedal. I use the boost side on the cleaner setting pretty much everytime I use my telecaster and the overdrive side pairs really well with every drive I've used it with. I typically run the overdrive side with the toggles far right so on the cleanest setting or with it set to one of the asymmetrical positions but it really sounds great in any position as long as its dialed in right and being utilized properly. I actually ended up with two deluxe preamps in the end. Anyways i hope that cleared up a little for someone. I really hate that these budget pedal companies build pedals in cryptic ways then offer next to no information on them leaving people on the internet who often dont have a clue what their talking about to speculate and spread misinformation. I really dont think the people at Mosky have any clue how their pedals work or how they were designed. I reached out to them for info and it seemed like they didnt even know the most basic circuit concepts. It seems like they hire someone to design he pedals who knows what they are doing then mosky actually gets them build but without actually understanding the circuits which is why things end up not making sense like incorrect labels or diodes that are in less than ideal configurations. But Mosky is actually not the worst offender and they do offer products that are better than the competitions in this process range.
From a forum post, if this helps. I think the drive side of both of these are technically the same, but the deluxe has diode clipping selections: "Took apart my Amp Turbo. The board seems to be the same as the deluxe as it has the solder pads for the 3 switches and all the components. The components are surface mounted except the coupling capacitors witch are an orange film type, and the 2N5888 boost Transistor. All the clipping diodes are standard silicon diodes no shotkky diodes (bat46) in the boost section as a real amp 11. The boost section has 2 pairs of diodes that are selectable via the switch. One pair (D9,D10 )is a standard silicon clipping pair with cathodes opposed. The second pair (D7, D8) are wired in true parallel so the cathodes are on the same side. Quite odd, as now only one half the wave gets clipped and at a reduced voltage too. The switched diodes go to the normal clipping stage as Amp11. Now the NON deluxe version (Amp Turbo) has no clipping on the boost stage as it doesn't have a switch and Mosky didn't wire in a jumper either. An Amp11 has a shotkky Bat46 clipping stage on the boost. So I clipped out the strange pair D7,D9 and soldered Bat46's in the proper orientation, cathodes opposed. Then wired a jumper across the switch pads to enable it. The other 2 switches seem ( I did a quick trace ) to bypass each double diode stage of the "Timmy" side with a single diode. So you could have asymmetrical clipping. All the capacitor values are the same as an Amp 11 the opamp is a JRC4559 as in a "Timmy"
@@TheGuitarEffect For the boost section, that makes sense. The boost on the Amp Turbo has no clipping stage (Amp 11 uses BAT46 diodes), so it really just increases volume with no added distortion. The drive/distortion sides should in theory sound the same between both pedals if both Deluxe switches are in the correct position (I'm not sure if it's left or right). I might be missing something though.
@@TheGuitarEffectI’ve got the vox. I’m still waiting on two power supplies I was supposed to have 6 weeks ago (don’t ask), so I haven’t put together the board it’s supposed to go on and lay into it and get its place figured out but it seems good and I think it’s going to do its job fine. I’ll check out the others at some point. Silver horse is good, the 250, mini muff, the simple straight blue chorus and phase are worth it for the minis I’ve tried. The m series just expanded but I’ve tried 6 of the first ones and the 250 preamp for sure. The crunch is good as is the rat, muff, compass drive. Hi, to my ears, the deluxe preamp sounded similar to the amp turbo , except higher gain in deluxe preamp? Do you think so? I went back and forward the video but I hardly could tell any difference.
Hey. Thx for the comment. They are slightly different. The deluxe preamp has less of a transparent sound. It bumps the mids ever so slightly. But they both have very similar gain ranges overall.
Great but you moved away from the mic so I had to turn up to hear what you were saying , and then you were too loud when you were playing . Good demo otherwise.

Hey William just thanks for the comment. I
Actually have a competition running at the Moment to win a Mosky pedal. Check it out if you like.
The deluxe preamp sounds just like the BB Preamp clone, the B-Box with extra boost and options
I didn’t know they had a mini pedal with the same circuit. I must pick that up then. Thx.
Love that blue preamp pedal. I was pleasantly surprised. However I though it would be in a way bigger enclosure.
Yeah both the deluxe preamp and the amp turbo are excellent. I’ll never sell either of them. Some of the best OD pedals I’ve tried.
Would you like it to be in a bigger enclosure?
@@TheGuitarEffect Was thinking the pedal would be more than twice the size of a regular pedal. It is in fact a regular pedal box but sideways.

just ordered the Deluxe Preamp for 34€s delivered!
Nice! It’s a great pedal!
