- In my approach to Aikido using kotegaeshi is mainly considered a disarming and not controlling technique. In this video I give some of the finer details of my kotegaeshi disarm to one of my Patreon groups.

I love this channel SO much, and I don't even do aikido.
Glad to hear it!
Same good sir!
This channel made me love Aikido again. Thanks from Brazil, Christopher!
That is wonderful to hear! Glad you find my work useful!
SO much easier to see it like this, then when you describe it on the pod.
I thought that it was about breaking the wrist and hopefully getting him to fall. Interesting to see an actual disarm being built in.
Great video . thank you so much👏🏻
You are so welcome!
Oh no, what happened to poor Josh's eye?
Maya happened- they were wrestling and went head to eye- eye lost.
Always suspected that Maya was a vicious one. ;)
Nice breakdown!
Kote in MA means part of the arm from middle of the fingers to elbow and coincide covered by armor part. So only wrist twisting isn't enough. Thumbnail of the video is exactly what I thought on most demos.
Hi Chris, thanks so much for explaining this. Would you say it might be almost impossible to do this to pocket knife disarm? Street assault is a possibility since pocket knife is small enough to conceal and enough to do damages as well - thank-you!
Well, it depends. If the knife doesn't have a locking mechanism, it would fold closed when you did this, so it might not lever out, but it would close pretty hard on there hand. Modern "tactical folders" all have locking mechanisms, so they will lever out. I've done it with car keys more than a few times and it works like a champ.
@@ChuShinTani Thanks Chris! that's helpful to hear, on another related point, what's the success rate of knife disarming in knife defence scenario? I understand that it's useful to train as one aspect of the defence along with other factors. Cheers.
I am of average intelligence i am unable to follow your philosophy on Aikido. I studied Aikido and Japanese jujitsu. After almost 30 of law enforcement I can say with some authority 90 % of Aikido is useless in combat.
Probably 90% of any martial art is useless in combat. I would rate radio communication, air strikes, dry socks, and good boots way higher than 99% of anything in any martial arts system.
Why were you in combat as a police officer???? Were you deployed to assist military operations? Or do you live in a country that is lawless?
