  • Overall Yodha is playing it safe. The hero is hero-ing, the lady love is lady loving, women in power don’t really HAVE any power, all villains are cartoons.

Yodha Movie Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Siddharth Malhotra now just does the “desh ka rakhwala” thing, he’s got it down. Shershah, Indian Police Force, now this, he’s at home in the genre, so what if you can't tell the roles apart. “shareer was vardi hogi ya tiranga” is a refrain heard before, you’ve seen him admire himself in his uniform in front of a mirror, aur Pakistan ko mazey toh kayee baar chakhaaye hain, Mission Majnu bhi thi beech mein. I will say, this is his finest performance among the titles I’ve mentioned above. Make of that what you will, but it was amusing to see the dialogue writers give his characters popular SRK lines, feeling less homage-y and more a reclamation of the power these dialogues have given the movie star. If we lift the most iconic romantic lines, and re-purpose them for half cooked moments of post battle victory scenes, does that make those lines now belong to this new actor, or is the SRK superfan side to his character written in the script but sacrificed on the edit. Who knows, it’s a mystery.

First of all, You are doing a sort of CSR by bearing the pain of watching such movies and making us ready/aware for it 🙏 - sort of ‘hamare liye sabse pehle sarhad pe ja ke ladna’. As expected, this genre is poorly/badly exploited - “Patriotism is a last refuge of a scoundrel’ - this is true for Siddharth & such movies. Movies like this are money waste, time waste, common sense challenged, logic in dustbin.

@@slayer81 I sort of liked Uri, Gajjani, tiger1 which had some sense, story, logic in addition to action. You cannot chop logic, story, common sense, repetitive, failing physics rules, unnecessary bringing ‘India’ angle. On the name of action movie, you cannot make anything with loud music , good muscles and naked bodies/ scenes.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel is a line by Samuel Johnson , by which he means not the real love for one's country but pretent kind of love to cloak the self interested guiding one's action, in this case selling a badly made written acted movie for the profit of it's producers.

As someone who's father has served in army for close to 30 years now, such character traits of rogueness and in subordination by so called lead actors in name of "justice" or whatever is grave injustice and disrespect to Army in general. I have seen my father not even be able to make eye contact to respective Commanding Offrs due to respect and how highly they are regarded among the officials around them. This is just pathetic and also logic less. Like literally Media questioning Offr and Govt on Task Force? I mean does Media question also these days? And who revealed the identity of officers to media anyway, that puts there lives in immediate danger. Clueless direction and even poor acting

My favourite part in the ‘Deshbhakti’ genre is the melancholic female love interest near the telephone/mobile phone waiting for news. It’s such a predictable trope.
I want to recreate it for funsies.

its so nice to see you have so much fun reviewing this!
i've never commented before and i don't watch bollywood movies (unless you say you like them). but, i've been watching your reviews for at least the past 6 years, since my hs freshman year, and you've given me the gift of understanding the media i watch, of asking insightful questions, of holding myself accountable for what I consume as entertainment, and of the vocabulary to express why things don't seem right in movies and shows.
though it should not matter, i am pakistani, and i know you aren't, but i acknowledge and appreciate that you take the time to call out blatant islamaphobia and anti-pakistan sentiments and point out the hateful narrative shift the historical unrest has forced upon an entertainment industry. i see you, we all see you, and while i like your reviews, i also think if i knew you in real life, i would want to be your friend.

And movies which shows hyper nationalism has plenty of them. Bollywood needs better dialogue writer. They are still living in 90s.

I mean seriously, after looking at the trailer did you expect Sid to turn a new leaf over with his immense acting?? I think you can do better than to review such films... I think from here on you should only review the movies that you genuinely liked watching, or were amazed by the craft of the film making process...
