  • I had been having a few issues with my derailleur on my little Hardtail over the past few weeks. The clutch on my SRAM X9 mech had finally given up the ghost and was no longer able to reliably hold the chain on (time for a little bit of rear mech repair).. And so it was time to replace it. Unfortunately... I was unable to get hold of a medium cage derailleur from my usual outlets as there is a tad bit of a parts shortage going around. So... I fished out my spare long cage derailleur I had mistakenly bought a while ago and was too lazy to return, and swapped the cage from the SRAM X9 derailleur to the body of the SRAM GX derailleur to build one working derailleur...
I was pretty impressed that it worked out given that the age difference between the two models of derailleur is around 8yrs and all. So... Suck it SRAM and your "economies of scale" lies and propaganda! Eat a bag of dicks!
This was a simple derailleur repair job that anyone can do with a little bit of patience and a basic level of competence...
    So get at it Y'all!
Also...
Also... Suck it SRAM und deine "Economies of Scale" Lügen und Propaganda!
    Also macht es euch an!

Yeah... I wasn't sure it'd work either... But I've been running the swap for a few weeks now and it's working great... Was also surprised at how easy it all fit together given that it was two different model derailleur... With an odd 8 yrs between manufacture dates. 😁

Fantastic video Phillip, I have to open a beer right away, I just can't let you drink alone.
We can drink the beer Sven forgot together ;-) Super explained and shared, thanks for that. Have fun and ride on buddy

Cheers Chris! One of the first things I learned when I moved here was "One does not do work in the workshop sans beer"... Apparently it's a rule that must be followed. So I follow it. It is the German way! It's also the last time Sven will forget beer at my place! Hahaha... Also... That's the first time someone has spelled my name correctly in years! I actually cried actual tears of pride! :D

@@TwoGuysOneVan I'm glad I got your name right, but now I'm afraid I might get it wrong in one of the next comments😌. I know how you work with beer, I have two colleagues from Augsburg Bayern😃. I think it's nice that you stick to the important rules👍. Keep up the good work and have a nice Sunday. Cheers

Yeah... I was in a place where I had two derailleurs that didn't matter if I wrecked them of not, but needed one working one... So I had nothing really to lose by trying this out. Pretty happy with how it all went, and the relative simplicity of it... :D

Any idea if the non clutch models, X7 & X9, the nine speed models have the same cages? And could be swappable also? They come up for sale cheaper.
