Hi! Do you know how many shades of whites dentists have for you to choose from when it comes to veneers?. This situation may confuse you, and make you wonder which shade you need to pick for your veneers to look amazing? Most of us want a beautiful & perfect new smile. I'm here to help you because, in this video, I'll reveal some fantastic tips for you to consider when choosing the right white color for your veneers and achieve great results that match your face.
Welcome to my channel!. I'm Dr. Rodriguez General & Cosmetic Dentist in Cartagena, Colombia. And I am here with another video to help you get the beautiful smile you desire. During the process of getting veneers, crowns or full dentures, one of the most important steps is choosing the right white color that suits you best. Most people think this step is simple, "give me the whitest teeth possible doc" this is what I hear a lot. However, when it comes to choosing the color of your new teeth. I recommend you don't make a quick decision but also don't overthink it …keep it simple.
My suggestion is for you to invest a few minutes into this stage, and that's why I created this video to help you. How white you want your teeth to be?. Let's take a look at the color chart that we work with to select Veneers shade.
As you can see in this image, starting with the brightest color: Bleach1 (BL1 or 0M1), we move in ascending order until Bleach 3 (BL3 0r 0M3), that represent a more yellowish color. Notice that the difference between these colors is slight.
After BL3/0M3, the guide follows a specific order based on the brightness of the tooth. As the scale goes on; it indicates that the color of the tooth is darker and more yellow than the before tooth.
There are five essential factors you should consider when choosing veneers color: The first factor is the number of veneers involved,
Second your skin tone, Third the white area around the iris of your eyes (sclera), Fourth your personality and expectations, And finally the size of your veneers.
Let me show you how this work:
1- Number of veneers: If you're getting 8 to 10 veneers top & bottom, you can choose from a wide range of colors. Because we would work with the majority of the teeth, you show when smiling. A different scenario it's working with only 2 0r 4 veneers which limits your options, forcing us to choose a color similar to your natural teeth
2- Skin color: Let's say you will get ten veneers on the uppers, so the next factor to consider is your skin tone. In our practice, we never tell the patient which color they must choose. Instead, we let you select, and we give our opinion, and why's. You're free to choose from any color you desire. However, we have found that BL2/0M2 tends to be one of the most popular and accurate options for lighter skin patients. In dark skin patients, our recommendation is considering a color like BL3 or BL4 if your goal is to look a white but natural smile. Guys, choosing a shade for that Hollywood smile is very subjective, leave your comments below about which veneer color would you like to get?.
3- Eyes: Eyes & teeth are the first features we see on a person face; a non-strict rule is using the whites of your eyes for guidance. So my advice is keeping the white of your teeth similar to the white color of your sclera. Following this tip, you will look enough white but not like Ross.
4- Personality and expectations: People with an extrovert personality tends to choose brighter teeth colors because they're comfortable getting attention. Picking a whiter shade will attract attention to your smile. If you care about this, consider it before selecting a color. And more important, feel free to communicate this point with your dentist so you can get a great result.
5- Teeth size: The white color itself has a visual effect of amplitude, so choosing the whiter shade will make veneers look bigger than they are. Be careful with the size if you're getting the whitest veneer shade.

The BL1/0M1 is the whitest color available for anyone to choose.
- For light skin people with an extrovert personality who's getting more than 8 eight veneers; the color BL2/0M2 would be my first suggestion, followed by BL1.
In case you want to be more natural, I would recommend going down to a BL3/0M3 color.
- On the other hand, if your skin complexion is medium (olive) a BL3/0M3 and BL2/0M2 are my suggestions for you.
- For dark skin complexions, the whiter shade I usually suggest is BL3 or BL2 and In case you want to be more conservative B1 would work great also.

0M1 is the same as BL1; you see different names because BL1 to BL4 belongs to the "Classic" shade guide, while 0M1 to 0M3 belongs to the most "3D Master" version of that same tooth shade guide.
In that order BL1 = 0M1 & BL3 = 0M3.

This video was really helpful, I am in the process of having replacement 6 veneers on the uppers, I selected B1 which was the same as my other natural teeth but when they were placed on my teeth they came up more like a C1. I would say the teeth stumps behind the veneers are maybe C2 or D4 ish. We are going to change them but I dont know if a BL2 would look like a B1 once placed on top of my darker teeth. No, they will not. I have BL2, they look like more natural and white but they are not very white.

I am having the complete upper arch done 6 implants, in the bottoms having four implants and the remaining teeth crowned. I am of medium complexion and feel B1 has too much yellow, so I am considering either BL3 or BL4 favoring BL4 so not to make a mistake. My understanding is that BL3 and BL4 the lab can make them look natural. What do you think and can the lab make them look natural??

Hello Crown Royal thanks for watching & comment! The shades BL1,2,3 aren't natural tooth shades; they can be reached with veneers or whitening (With whitening: only in cases where the patient naturally had a very light color before bleaching them, such as B1/A1)
BL means bleached, so yes BL1-3 means brighter/whiter than B1 & A1
I just left the dentist office after being disappointed by the choice of color for crowns.He tried to bully me into keeping B1 which is no where near BL1 or OM1 their mistake not mine.Hopefully you see now that the B1 is nothing close to BL1 or OM1 which I chose🦷🙏🏻

Hello Dr. I heard that all BL colors are Artificial and all other colors are Natural look. Does that mean there is big difference between BL4 and B1 in therms of natural looks? (In both cases is about e-max crowns) Thanks!

However, the difference between BL4 and B1 is very subtle. If you’re leaning towards BL4, I recommend going for it. Just make sure to ask your dentist for samples of both colors so you can get a better idea of which one you prefer.
What undertones are in the BL shades? Everything else seems to have known undertones (brown for A, yellow for B's) but I can't find anywhere what hues are resembled in the bleached shades? I chose BL4 but it did look a bit grey to me

Very helpful video! Does age matter? I'm 61 (very fair-skinned) and in the process of 11 veneers and replacing front crowns. My previous, old crowns were a B1 shade, and beaching my lower, they still reach a B1 shade (or close too), but as we age, I know teeth age too and get more yellow. I want it to be brighter than the old B1, but not by much because my lowers are not being done. I'm torn between OM2 vs OM3 - afraid OM2 is too bright and maybe OM3 will be too yellow. feedback please?
Look at it this way. Would you rather your teeth look too natural or too bright. If you go OM2 they might look fake with your skin color and people will know you had work done to your teeth and OM3 will be a little bit more yellow but it will be brighter than anyone else's teeth in the room and it wont look to noticeable.
Split the difference and do a 2.5

The difference between BL.. and M. is that BL belongs to the "Classic" shade guide, while M belongs to the "Most Recent" version of that same tooth shade guide, called "3D Master," but basically, BL1 is the same 0M1 & BL3 = 0M3.
Will the BL 1 change color? I just got mine done and I didn’t wanted the whitest shade, but the doctor said they’re only had two shades and the other one was a slight yellow so I choose the whiter one. She put a yellow cement to the back so it doesn’t appear so white, but it’s still too white for my liking. I’m still trying to get use to them.
Dear Crystal, thanks for your comment. Veneer may change their color depending on their material. For example: if they are Composite veneers, chances are they will change. But, Porcelain veneers remain their color for many years. What type of material are yours?
Giving yourself time to get used to the color you have, sounds AWESOME. Especially these first weeks when you got them because significant changes take time, you may love them soon...keep me updated. :)

I also want the whitest shade possible but I want shaped with personality, not straight, same length and squared, that seems like a fake look.
Great choice; white shades with a lot of texture (no flat) and some translucency will prevent them from looking fake.
About to get my veneers nextweek. I wanted bl03 but the dentist said go for bl2. I am confused she said bl3 is whiter than bl2. Was is a mistake or a trick so I will be surprised in the actual? Hmmmm. I told her ok i will ger bl2,

I've done all on 4 implants plus 13 zirconia teeth. In December I am going to finished them as for now I have temporarly teeth. I am still perplexed about which shade should I choose. My skin tone is white. 🙃

@@cartagenaenglishdentist temporarly teeth colour is between A2 and A1. I would go rather for a bit brighter but don't want to be extra bleach white. Iam not that personality. Everyone hwo knows me says they look perfect and this colour is perfect but I am not quite satisfied with this

I just need top crowns. Not sure what to do? I was going to ask they match better with bottom teeth. I did not want the extreme white on top making them look fake. Argh
How did they go? In case you're still in the process, I will suggest asking the dentist to show you the color 1 shade above your natural color. Compare it and see if that helps you to make a decision.
@@cartagenaenglishdentist that’s about what I did. I’m using Crest Whitening strips on other teeth. She far I did teeth behind canines about 1.5 lighter. Once I do the top fronts same, and keep up with strips on bottom teeth.. I think it will look good :) I will not do fronts canine to canine until 2024, to maximize insurance benefit.

EW0 Noritake/Kuraray: EW0, it’s one of the available shades of a Japanese dental porcelain brand (Noritake) By Kuraray Company... EW00 has the highest opacity, followed by EW0, EW and EWY

Hi Yess. The difference between BL.. and M. is that BL belongs to the "Classic" shade guide, while M belongs to the "Most Recent" version of that same tooth shade guide, called "3D Master," but basically, BL1 is the same 0M1 & BL3 = 0M3.

I am so confused and can’t decide between Bl1 and Bl2 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️I read the comments and some people who did Bl1 regretted because it is “too white “ and others who did Bl2 regretted coz “ they should have gone lighter “ 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️.
My doctor recommended Bl1 for me and I am little worried.
Honestly I can't decide between BL2 and BL3.. BL1 is just too white IMO but who knows. I haven't done them yet. If you do please update us

I’m doing BL1 as well, to me that’s what you want, you spend so much money get white white smile. I don’t care if people think they look fake I’m gonna rock them. I bet your smile is beautiful. You just aren’t used to having very white teeth. You will get used to it.

I had 6 veneers e max on my top sides. and zirconium on the front 4 the emax seem a little whiter than the zirconium crowns. my biggest problem i have now is that the final crown was fitted 2 weeks ago and its whiter than the other 3 zirconium crowns so just stands out in photos
Hi buddy Im not sure if I understand you completely, but here is my answer Zirconia and Emax are different materials, so I can understand at the end they stand out in your photos especially if the dental work was done separately, Regarding this last crown have you tried to find out with your dentist why this one was made separated than the other 3?

@@navycorpsman2007 whichever colour you choose it's always best to ask for translucency veneer tips. I work in dentistry in Sydney and we see lots of these cases. I have fair skin, with make up I'm probably a little bit darker, I chose shade BL3 with translucency. It's a bit more pricey but it's worth it and they don't look like mini bricks in your mouth. By the way anything past shade b1 is not a natural white. So don't worry with bl3 you will still have very white teeth!
