I’m glad you mentioned that you can substitute another dark color, like navy. I have never been able to wear black. I’m fair (hair, eyes, skin) and black seems to overwhelm me, but navy doesn’t have the same effect.
I am also very fair and blue eyed. My grandmother always use the word severe for black being so harsh on me. She would tell me that a certain color looked too severe. I love that description.
Black bottoms are always trendy, no matter the season, in my closet. Love it!!! TFS

I used to have a neighbor who wore black; it was gorgeous with her white hair. She always looked so chic.

I am such a minimalist when it comes to color or pattern. Unless on a scarf tied about my neck, I dislike busyness about my face. Don't mind an animal print so much bcos it usually contains a lot of black to anchor it.
Tartan is about the only other pattern I can wear with any consistency. At least when it is on a bottom (skirt or trouser). Plaid can make me feel feisty & sometimes edgy. It never makes me either too girlish or matronly like florals. Will sometimes do a vertical stripe on bottom, but can NEVER stand it on top.
🛍️Colors can seem so pretty & appealing in the store. Stopped buying knowing the odds are I will never end up putting them on🤣.
All this to say that I once bought a similar colored 💘pink blouse. Along with a blush pink, pale yellow, & taupe blouse with short cap sleeves and buttons. 😉You're inspiring me to pull them out to try as a topper with either all black or navy.

I love black, too. Most of my clothes are black. I've a new black midi dress in silk/linen from Wrap London, so stunning. I've long, white hair and wear black dresses or skirts with white sneakers...that's a contrast! Hello from Germany.

Good morning Kay, black has been my staple color for years. I accent it minimally with other colors. My favorite outfit is a black sleeveless sheath dress with a light blue cardigan. So stylish and classic. Love this video.

They are all great tips. My colouring is very high contrast as you described and I wear black and white a lot in summer, usually with green jewellery, such as emeralds and/or Tahitian pearls, as I have green eyes.

I always had dark hair and strong contrast in my coloring. Black has always been a staple color in my wardrobe. Because I have more of an apple shape, I find that wearing black or other dark colors on top helps me balance proportions better. These are nice tips!

Hello Lisa, have you ever tried tops that are black backgrounds but have a print on them? Maybe like a flower pattern, or stripes, paisley print, animal prints are great too. I believe that might work. Best for you is to find your colour palette season.enjoy your shopping trip 😁
As a fair skinned redhead, you are probably a spring or fall, and black would make your skin look sallow. When I stopped wearing summer colors, and started wearing winter colors like I’m supposed to, I got TONS of compliments and it was really fun because people knew I looked really good, but they didn’t know why. Find a color on the season that is yours, and you will glow.
Hey Lisa, With your fair-skin and red hair, a top with your warm colors and a touch of black background would work. Also, wearing black away from your face is a definite way to go. Black pants, etc with an ivory blouse would be beautiful along with your warm tone tops! Hope this helps.
Well as a beautiful redhead yiu can do a deep deep forest green, or a dark purple or burgundy or chocolate brown instead if you dont want to do black.

Thank you, Kay. I so agree with you about black. It has always been one of my favorite colors to wear. As I get older, I have been trying to get away from it and wear more lighter colors. But really, you are correct, black is a great choice, even for Summer. Kay, you are so cute today talking about black, so enthusiastic, it is making me smile along with you. ;-) BTW, I have an animals print Tee shirt on with black joggers and when my husband saw me, he asked me if I was going somewhere. He thought I was dressed up. So you are right about how they look together. :-)
I lived in London for quite a long time - and discovered the amazing Jean Muir. She designed timeless pieces that stand the test of time (I still wear them 25 years later). One of her best kernels of advice, was to substitute Navy for black as we get older: It is softer on our complexions, and I do choose Navy for any clothing near my face! 👍🙋♀️🇺🇸🥰

I also bleed red & black (UGA ‘77), but I’ve never liked to wear red… SO I was thrilled when, in 2007 our Dawgs were hosting Auburn, and we heard that the game was a “blackout” - no red allowed, and everyone - even players - were all wearing
black. I loved it and have given myself permission since then to keep the red to my accessories and just wear black! Go Dogs!!!

🌟Sometimes a topper can add such drama. 💕Love your cardigans & kimono. A more body-conturing tank or t-shirt really flatters my figure, but I prefer to do that under something. Feel more comfy giving a 👀peek-a-boo impression of shape.
🖤Love how you rock a sassy statement t-shirt! Seem to be drawn to them nowadays. I wear more skirts, and have a wide variety on hand from more formal office times too. Enjoy the contrast of a cheeky saying or interesting graphic knotted at the waist with a more classic skirt. Like the whimsy as well as the juxtaposition of casual & formal.

I never had black clothes, I just did not like it. Since last year I get more pieces in my wardrobe! Your Video gave me good Ideas. How to style a black piece!! I still try to find a good fitting pair of black Jeans since my figure has changed since the last 2 years. I wear a 32/30 (European 42). This change of figure (belly issue) gives me a hard time! In the SE, it is sooo very hot, and it almost never stops raining. ( Hurricane season, tornado season, constant precipitation in winter...,all getting worse every year. ) Even if it appears to be a day without rain, the humidity is so high here in summer that it might as well be raining because you will be covered in a thin film of “dampness” that you can rake off with your hand. The nape of your neck and scalp are drenched within several mins. of being outside. In thirty to fifty years, weather experts say many parts of the Southern US will be uninhabitable. Yet, most of the clothing that is reasonably priced is now synthetic. Try wearing synthetic fibers in this kind of weather. It’s like being wrapped in plastic wrap in 90 plus degree weather. Actually, it can be deadly. If you’re wearing black here, it had better be inside in air conditioning all day. Best to stick to light, airy fabrics...and natural fibers. Thanks for all you do.

I’ve always loved black for evening but not daytime, it’s a bit draining for blondes.

Really cute outfits with black, and tips. I cannot find the link for the black stripped zebra top that you showed. How do I find this top? I am a winter with the color pallet and black and white look really good on me. I also like navy and white as you suggested if you are not into black and white or all black.
In the summer I avoid wearing black during the day because it draws all the heat in the sun, on hot days; I much prefer lighter colours or even navy which is not as dark, and keep black for cooler evenings. Black can be so nice, but I also avoid all-black outfits (except for a chic dress or casual black jeans and t-shirt) as they tend to remind me of funerals. Maybe because I live in Greece where it's still a strong tradition for women who are grieving.
I totally agree with you that black looks fabulous on anyone over 50. Chic and slenderizing: always a great choice!

I cannot wear wrap dresses they just never look good on my large chest. And everyone recommends them. I do like that dress from banana republic wish they’d work for me.
Me, too, and there’s never enough fabric to pin the front, we can have full slippage. A and B cup women just don’t get it.
I wear a cup size H and I size up to fit the bust, sometimes two or three sizes. Cinch in the waist with a belt or have it altered. I never bother altering, I just cinch the waist, if necessary. I like the extra room around the hips. Also, double-sided tape made for clothes can keep the top shut. I love wrap tops and dresses. I have lots of them.

Hello, I enjoy black year round. I have a question about a Tory Burch bag (McGraw) I’ve seen you use in several videos. You have a black and cognac in this style. It has one shorter shoulder strap. I am thinking of buying this bag. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks and I enjoy your videos.
Hi Joy. I love the bag. I actually have three of them! It’s such a nice size and very functional. But also modern and versatile. Great bag!
Black looks awful on pasty me, but I love it, so I just modify it near my face. I use a white collared shirt under, a light-colored scarf, or even light or sparkly jewelry like pearls. I also add more makeup, especially blush. I don’t like wearing it in the hot sun, but it’s great for indoors or evenings in summer. Black might not be flattering, but it’s always chic.

Oh how I wish I could wear a wraparound dress. Had a double mastectomy last year and can’t wear any v neck clothes, which shows my scars. Do you have any suggestions for a 71 yr old with no breasts?
