This song used to mean so much to me. It was my gateway to Cavetown, but before I discovered the original singer I would use this song as a way to cry and release my pent up stress. I was in a bad, confusing relationship where I was wholeheartedly in love with this guy, but he would only rarely talk to me even though we had multiple classes together and ate lunch together and did all the coupley things. I was so insecure during this part of my life and my anxiety was at its peak whenever I was around him. the lyrics "are you tired of me yet" felt like the constant monologue in my head that reminded me every day that he would leave me soon. the chorus was just my relation to a cry for help, "I'll cut my hair" meant that I would change anything just to have him see me as desirable. "I'm a little sick right now, but I swear, when I'm ready I will fly us out of here" meant that I knew I was messed up because of my mental health issues, and that all I wanted was too see him normally and be able to allow myself to have a normal relationship with him, because, of course, I was extremely insecure and assumed that the relationship's faults were mine. Not long after I wore out this song, and the meaning left, he told me he was going to kill himself. I remember the day it happened so clearly. I was crying and shaking all day, inconsolable, because I didnt want him to leave me. It turns out, he created the situation for the sole purpose of seeing me panic over his life. He was alive and well the whole time, but even after I sent him messages asking if he was ok, he never responded. The only relief I got was when I saw that he had seen the messages and knew he was alive. Needless to say, our relationship did not last long after that and just a week later he ended things. I never cried after that, I felt no sadness and i didnt miss him, all I felt was a sweet relief because I knew that I didnt have to terrified of messing things up anymore. Now, looking back at this remix that I rarely listen to now that I've found the original, the old meaning of the song floods my head again and its almost overwhelming. Thanks for letting me get this out, I just needed to put these words somewhere.
