    Our year has been a dumpster fire 😢 working through a hard developmental stage with my oldest (special needs). That has put all of the things way off course and I’m trying hard to simplify our life in school and home. Ready for a better new year. Praying!

      I’m sorry, Sara! That’s so hard!! I’ve had to learn to be ok to let less important subjects drop for a while when I need to focus on a skill or if something needs more attention before moving on. It’s a tough place to be for sure, but thankful that God knows better than we do what our kids need, and he will guide us to the right decisions when we seek him! Blessings, mama! ❤️

      🥰 The Charlotte Mason approach has been beautiful! We’ve kind of been inspired by that method for several years, but this is the first foray into all things CM. Still trying to figure out how it will work for high school credits… 🥴😅

    I'm right there with you! Our year has been chaotic so far due to "officially" adding another kiddo, sickness and other random emergencies. I've been telling myself that this first term was an adjustment period and to give myself grace. I know what needs to be fixed and tweaked, so when term 2 starts right after New Year's I'll be ready. It's still really hard to keep the stress from getting to you, though. 😓

      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Год назад

      Yea, I made it in Excel. My biggest find that has been helpful with my dyslexic son with writing is to have him do an oral narration (either to myself or using a dictation app/online tool) and then he writes it down or types it up while listening to the recording. It helps tremendously to not have to figure out how to decode the words/sentences while he’s figuring out what to write!

    I have never heard of this curriculum. Can you compare it with TGATB Ela/math? My daughter uses TT for math but he uses tgtb. 4TH GRADE. I supp comprehension with Abeka readers ( history) / questions, use science units from tgtb in combo with answers in genesis 3-8 set. I'm trying to start Tuttle Twins new history books but trying to finish up the Liberty Kids last 6 videos LOL. I also want to do that read around the world deal this year. 😂 We are really enjoying Anne of Green Gables read aloud too. I feel like of all years, we are enjoying the process best this time around. I have a cut off time so when we stick by it and on really nice days we go somewhere and call it science. ❤️

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Год назад +1

      The LA from A Gentle Feast is definitely more… gentle. I honestly don’t feel like it’s quite enough, whereas I feel like TGTB is too much. But I’m a relaxed homeschooler who hates tedious worksheets, and lean towards skipping boring things that I don’t feel like they will ever use in life… 😅 so take my personal preference lightly! Haha

    • @FLMegan

      @@TheEclecticHomeschooler You have been pretty dead on with me- I detest worksheets too and love the mix up of ways tgtb teaches. I think it's that happy medium of not too hard but keeps both on their toes. I do add comprehension thou. You saved me when tgtb didn't work for my girl. TT is awesome and I can be 1 on 1 with my boy!!

    Our second year homeschooling. So hard to get them starting their online (Time4Learing) school work. Some days take all day. It’s harder this year (2nd grade) for my 8 year old boys. It’s hard because I also have to work for my full time job. How do I get them wanting to read? OMG on new math, what happened to normal math. ?

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Год назад +2

      Sorry to hear you’re frustrated! I imagine that must be such a challenge to work full time while homeschooling! Have you tried asking them why they don’t want to do their work? Perhaps it’s a case of the lessons being either too hard or too easy? For reading, I think it can often be the case of just not finding something that interests them, so doing some research on your part to find books about a subject they are interested in can be a big help. Sometimes audio books are a good motivator too - especially if you find a series and they listen to the first book on audio but then they have to actually read the sequels. I know my boys are more motivated that way sometimes… For math, that’s one of the reasons I love Teaching Teaching textbooks - no common core! That’s also an online (app based) program. You could always check into that or something else and switch if it looks better. They have a 15 lesson free trial. Best wishes!
