What's with the receptionist on the top floor?
You should re-visit these elevators. I'm not sure if the elevators themselves have been modified much (though, the panels are certainly different now), but the call system is drastically different. Outside the bank of elevators, rather than having up and down buttons, there is a touchscreen station where you press what floor you are going to. The system prioritizes the elevators, and tells you as soon as you push the button what elevator you'll be taking.
Very cool. That's a technology known as destination dispatch. Not sure when I'll be back in KC (not likely any time soon), but I'll be sure to stop by and check it out. Thanks for the tip!
Oh, also when you revisited the Muehlebach, the reason the upper floors were locked out on the old elevators is because they had gutted the upper floors of the building for renovation. Later, the elevators were powered off completely, when the renovation was abandoned. The part where guest rooms are now is actually a separate structure, and the old building is fairly creepy, though the presidential suite is the one thing still marginally intact up near the top of the building.
