Reports that categorically prove that Islam forbids killing of innocent people at all times. Islam-haters don't like to read what follows:
Report 1:
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw the corpse of a woman who had been slain in one of the raids, and he disapproved of it and forbade the killing of women and children. (Muatta of Malik, Book of Jihad, Hadith 9).
Report 2:
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Abu Bakr as-Siddiq was sending armies to ash-Sham. He went for a walk with Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan who was the commander of one of the battalions. It is claimed that Yazid said to Abu Bakr, "Will you ride or shall I get down?" Abu Bakrsaid, "I will not ride and you will not get down. I intend these steps of mine to be in the way of Allah."
Then Abu Bakr advised Yazid, "You will find a people who claim to have totally given themselves to Allah. Leave them to what they claim to have given themselves. You will find a people who have shaved the middle of their heads, strike what they have shaved with the sword.
I advise you ten things:
"Do not kill women or children or an aged, infirm person. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees. Do not destroy an inhabited place. Do not slaughter sheep or camels except for food. Do not burn bees and do not scatter them. Do not steal from the booty, and do not be cowardly." (Muatta of Malik, Book of Jihad, Hadith 10).
Report 3:
The report narrated by al-Bukhaari (3015) and Muslim (1744) from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: A woman was found slain during one of the campaigns of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbade the killing of women and children.
Conclusion:
Having read these categorical reports, no sane or fair-minded person would ever claim that Islam allows indiscriminate wanton killing of innocent people. We thank Allah for the mercy and beauty of Islam.

Adnan Rashid I don't think that's all the Hadiths say about killing is it? And that statement definitely doesn't harmonise with chapter 9 verse 29 of the quran. 90% of the time you stand in judgement of Christianity and the teachings of the Bible but when we look at the quran we see absolute inconsistency which even your own scholars admit to by there clearly being abrogated verses. If every word in the quran is the un-changing word from God not one letter should be abrogated ever. You are far more wise than me with all your learning and reading but to find out who our creator really is you won't find Him through logic you will only find Him through the heart & deep prayer and through the soul. These are just the words of a foolish un-learnerd man.

You claim the rules of the old testament such as an eye for an eye etc is abbrogated, so what authority do you have to object to abrbrogations in the Quran?

I wish I lived in the UK, as it would be nice to visit Speaker's Corner on occasion and help clear misconceptions about Islam. I have found, from my personal experience as a former atheist, that a lot of people are reluctant to accept Islam due to its association with Arab culture and phrases. I hope Richard reads these comments on these videos because I just would like to say a few things I am not sure he is aware of that he can perhaps reflect on or question:
"Islam" is only an Arabic term which means "submission/surrender of one's will to the will of God". The thing about Arabic is that it is so deep in meaning that sentences in English can sometimes be translated to one word in Arabic. Arabic is a very powerful language and has many layers of meaning. Thus, "Islam" is NOT a label or title of a religion that belongs to a certain group of people per se. It is more of a description of a way of life. It is the one and only natural religion that has existed since man set foot on the earth. The Arabic terms "Muslim", "Muslima", "Musliman", "Muslimain", "Muslimeen", "Muslimoon", "Muslimatain", "Muslimatan", and "Muslimatt" are all descriptions referring to either single males/females, duos, and groups of people. These Arabic terms translate to "one who submits/surrenders their will to the will of God" and "those who submit/surrender their will to the will of God". All of the prophets of God were "Muslimeen"/"Muslims" because they all submitted their will to the will of God. They called themselves "Muslimeen" in whatever language they spoke.
“And verily We have raised in every nation a messenger, [proclaiming], ‘Worship the one true God and avoid all false deities.’” (The Quran 16:36)
“And We sent not before you [O Muhammad] any messenger except that We revealed to him, saying, ‘There is no God but I, so worship Me.’” (The Quran 21:25)
“And We did not send any messenger except [to teach] in the language of his [own] people in order to make [matters] clear to them” (The Quran 14:4)
“Verily We have sent you [O Muhammad] in truth, as a bearer of good tidings, and as a warner: and there never was a people without a warner having lived among them” (The Quran 35:24)
“And Our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs” (The Quran 5:32)
People today that identify with the term "Muslim" often use a lot of Arabic words in their speech even if they don't speak Arabic themselves. This is due to the final revelation being sent to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), who was an Arab, in the Arabic language. Had the final revelation been sent to a prophet that spoke a different language, we would have the influence of that language present in today's dialogue when conversing about this religion. The Arabization of the religion of submission/surrender to the will of God (Islam in Arabic) has nothing to do with the religion itself. God has sent this message to the entirety of humanity - it doesn't matter if one uses Arabic terms in their daily conversations with others or not. This is not an inherent must in this religion, even though many people behave in such a way that it implies to others that it is. This religion is DISTINCT from culture or political affiliation or nationality or language; it is the only universal message to humanity that God has conveyed through all of His prophets.
This is mainly what shook me to the core and pushed me to accept the truth of "Islam"/"Submission/surrender to the will of God", but unfortunately most people are not aware of this at all and would be shocked to find out.

Siko Siko He is Christian and a person of the book, Allah knows if he worships him solely and not Jesus. One who dies upon Shirk will never be forgiven but one who is sincere in seeking the truth but the truth has not arrived to him or he has been lied to about the deen it is between him and Allah. Also this comment was from years ago so I HAVE been learning the deen as a revert. Does verse 9:29 permit aggression against non-Muslims?
Safiur Rahman further describes the reason the conflict took place:
The Byzantine power, which was considered the greatest military force on earth at that time, showed an unjustifiable opposition towards Muslims. As we have already mentioned, their opposition started at killing the ambassador of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Al-Harith ibn Umair Al-Azdi, by Sharhabeel Ibn Amr Al-Ghassani. The ambassador was then carrying a message from the Prophet to the ruler of Busra. We have also stated that the Prophet consequently dispatched a brigade under the command of Zaid bin Haritha, who had a fierce fight against the Byzantines at Mu’tah. Although Muslim forces could not have revenge on those haughty over-proud tyrants, the confrontation itself had a great impression on the Arabs all over Arabia.
Caesar, who could neither ignore the great benefit that the battle of Mu’tah had brought to Muslims, nor could he disregard the Arab tribes’ expectations of independence and their hopes of getting free from his influence and reign, nor he could ignore their alliance to the Muslims. Realizing all that, Caesar was aware of the progressive danger threatening his borders, especially the fronts of Syria which were neighboring Arab lands. So he concluded that demolition of the Muslims’ power had grown an urgent necessity. This decision of his should, in his opinion, be achieved before the Muslims become too powerful to conquer and raise troubles and unrest in the adjacent Arab territories.
To meet these exigencies, Caesar mustered a huge army of the Byzantines and pro-Roman Ghassanite tribes to launch a decisive bloody battle against the Muslims.

Therefore, this context must be understood when reading verse 9:29 so that we clearly know who should be fought, specifically the aggressors among the Jews and Christians and not all of them. Rather, many other verses of the Quran make clear that it is unlawful to initiate hostilities against other nations.
Allah said:
وَقَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ
Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Verily, Allah does not love transgressors.
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:190
And Allah said:
وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ لِلَّهِ فَإِنِ انتَهَوْا فَلَا عُدْوَانَ إِلَّا عَلَى الظَّالِمِينَ
Fight them until there is no more persecution and worship is for Allah. But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors.
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:193
Other verses and traditions make clear that Muslims must accept peace offerings from their enemies.
Allah said:
وَإِن جَنَحُوا لِلسَّلْمِ فَاجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
If the enemy inclines to peace, then incline to it also and rely upon Allah. Verily, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Surah Al-Anfal 8:61
And Allah said:
فَإِنِ اعْتَزَلُوكُمْ فَلَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ وَأَلْقَوْا إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَمَ فَمَا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبِيلًا
So if they remove themselves from you and do not fight you and offer you peace, then Allah has not made for you a cause for fighting against them.
Surah An-Nisa 4:90
Ali ibn Abu Talib reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي اخْتِلَافٌ أَوْ أَمْرٌ فَإِنْ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ السِّلْمَ فَافْعَل
Verily, after me there will be conflicts or affairs, so if you are able to end them in peace then do so.

Interpreting the verse 9:29 in light of the entire Quran makes unequivocal that the purpose of the verse is to defend from aggression, not to commit aggression against non-Muslim nations.
Muhammad Asad interprets the verse as follows:
In accordance with the fundamental principle observed throughout my interpretation of the Quran, that all of its statements and ordinances are mutually complementary and cannot, therefore, be correctly understood unless they are considered as parts of one integral whole, this verse 9:29 too must be read in the context of the clear-cut Quranic rule that war is permitted only in self-defense. In other words, the above injunction to fight is relevant only in the event of aggression committed against the Muslim community or state, or in the presence of an unmistakable threat to its security: a view which has been shared by that great Islamic thinker, Muhammad Abduh. Commenting on this verse, he declared:
القتال الواجب في الإسلام إنما شرع للدفاع عن الحق وأهله… إن غزوات النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كانت كلها دفاعا وكذلك حروب الصحابة في الصدر الأول
“Fighting has been made obligatory in Islam only for the sake of defending the truth and its followers… All the campaigns of the Prophet were defensive in character and so were the wars undertaken by the companions in the earliest period of Islam.”

We conclude that verse 9:29 does not permit aggression against peaceful nations. Rather, it must be read within the context in which it was revealed and in combination with the Quran and authentic traditions as a whole.
Success comes from Allah, and Allah knows best.

I am in Somalia, and we practice the Shafie madhab.
Im malaysian. I think mazhab has been a culture in our society. Where we do not easily interpret Quran n Hadith by ourself. That is why, we r in needy to mazhab scholars like shafie.
We have been tought that between those 4 scholars, shafie is always came out with strict idea and instruction how to live as muslims as close to Islam and sunnah of Prophet Muhammad saw.
That is also why other muslims outside our country like to think that we are passive or in good way to describe it as peaceful muslims.

Lehmin Long I CAN say I follow mazhab. why? bcoz i don't have time and capacity to study fully what prophet did, and how to apply what the scripture say (usul fiqh) so I entrust that burden to the group of scholars who had similar methodology (ie mazhab) in analysing the scripture.
except its not like that. Indonesian ppl and Malaysian ppl have the same situation in their community. when they say following a madzhab, they dont really know what they are talking about, generally. for example. majority of southeast asian ppl following shafii madzhab. but the moment the saw a women wearing niqab, most of people will think is a bit of extreme. little did they know that wearing niqab is a must from shafii madzhab. the same for growing beard.
Richard is honest. No trick, no attempt to silence Adnan, just trying to learn and getting the answers to his genuine questions.
Then it is up to himself to reflect upon this and to Allah (swt) to open his heart to the truth, or not.

Ibn kathir said this verse is regarding the battle of hunayn can someone clarify either way it counters the argument that you can do indiscriminate fighting it was revealed at a time when they was in battle with someone attacking the Muslims
Salam. I have to disagree on the part when brother Adnan claims the Shafiees holds such views that it is war with non muslims by default as he mentioned. It is a weakness in his lay out of acknowledging Richard's view. In a way, its like taking Shafiee's school of thought as the blacksheep/scapegoat to be blamed. I watched Richard in many videos and he knows what he is talking about. I feel that he is searching all aspect of the religion of Islam. Eventually his last station is accepting Islam when fully convinced and will be one of preachers of Islam like many of our other brothers!
