@@RobertWeir no problem. You might want to check the voltage regulator on the alternator as well. From what I researched when I was having issues was that most of the time they are the cause of the alternator issues. I'm a hack and found a cheap alternator so I just swapped out the whole thing. Good luck. I am all to familiar with the frustrations of e46 ownership lol
This test works each time for my E46. My good battery fully charged overnight, is about 12.6 volts and a good alternator charges it to about 14.0 to 14.5 range, depends, but it will take a minute for the alternator to get there.
13.5 with instrument cluster, but when you measure battery using multimter you will get 13.00, your issue was not resolved as you supposed to have minimum 14.00
I got a new battery. Car was out for over a year never started after working on many things. So, all is well for a few days driving it around. Started it yesturday backed it out of garage. Later that night was going to spin it somewhere. 100% Dead. Got out a battery charger for vehicles. Eventually got it started again. Turned it off because I wanted to try this video out. It was reading 12.5/12.6 but then when I tried starting it again it would not. Not even any blinking with lights. No dome lights nothing. This is a new battery so I'm lost with what the hell is wrong now suddenly. Any help much appreciated.
I just replaced my alternator and im getting 13.8..before with the old one i was getting 11.8. Im gonna run it and see what happens but my red battery light has gone away.
Just shut the damn doors mate FFS... :))))
Thanks for the video...helped me diagnose a faulty alt on my e46
What year ? How much did the alternator replacement cost ? Could you still drive the car at all even after the red battery light came on ?
werd thank you

13.4 it supposed to be 14.2 !
I believe 14.2 is on load. So when going to like 1.5k rpm or 2-3k.
Awesome. Great info. Thank you!
Thanks 🙏 great video 👍👍👌🏽👌🏽
my voltage at 9.5 what's wrong??
Nicee👍🏾 thank you!
