    LYRICS:
Et misericordia eius a progenie in progenies timentibus eum.
(And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations.)
    Magnificat
John Rutter’s Magnificat for soprano soloist, choir and orchestra was written in 1990, and the première took place in May of that year in Carnegie Hall, New York. The text, based on the prayer ascribed by St Luke to the Virgin Mary on learning that she was to give birth to Christ, is extended by the interpolation of Marian prayers and poems chosen by the composer, to create a celebratory work reminiscent of outdoor processions in honour of the Virgin.
John Rutter, English composer and conductor, is associated with choral music throughout the world. His recordings with the Cambridge Singers (the professional chamber choir he set up in 1983) have reached a wide global audience, many of them featuring his own music in definitive versions. Among John’s best-known choral works are Gloria, Requiem, Magnificat, Mass of the Children, and Visions, together with many church anthems, choral songs and Christmas carols.

That's what our choir director said when we sang this, "You CANNOT fall asleep, remember, you have to make the AUDIENCE fall asleep, not YOURSELVES. Stay alert, concentrate!" It was so funny, he was so right!

If you look up the Magnificat, it should be easy... but they are "Et misericordia eius a progenie in progenies timentibus eum" - "and His mercy is from generation to generation, unto them that fear Him". This version also has a reprise of the opening text - "Magnificat anima mea Dominum", "My soul magnifies the Lord."
