    If you take the stormgirdle legendary item then it gives a huge boost to strength, control weather and as a bonus action you can blast people with some additional lightning. But it is a legendary item, but it turns almost any character into thor

      One of the minor detrimental features is your appearance changes as the DM decides. That could be the Thor transformation. I know its not an actual detriment but would be so fitting. Then for beneficial effects you could get +2 strength and be immune to disease. I think having paladin levels instead of fighter for thunderous smite would be cool, shame it doesn't upcast. Sorcerers can change damage types now too with metamagic which could come in handy. A lightning spirit guardians would be cool.

    In the Marvel comics, Stormbreaker is Beta Ray Bill's version of Thor's hammer. Thunderstrike is the hammer of Thunderstrike, a mortal who once sheltered Thor inside his body and was rewarded with Thor like superpowers and a magic hammer as a thank you by the Asgardians afterwards.
    But that is in the comics, not the MCU. So...give him an axe with some hammer like abilities.

    Even in the beginning Thor had extensive military training, even if he chooses not to use it. Therefore imo Battlemaster would make a superior choice in a mechanical sense and an equally good choice thematically. I would also grab the metamagic that let's me change the damage type of a spell. A Lightning 'Fireball' is very Thor 😇

    I deeply appreciate your commitment to movie accuracy. Overall this looks pretty friggin cool. If it were my personal build, I would've focused on high Strength, Charisma, and Constitution. Int, Dex, and Wis can be leveled out to 10 as most of the time he's not particularly exceptional in these areas. I think Eldritch Knight fighter is most direct way to get the ability to summon Mjolnir. It's fine that Int isn't high because EK limits you to Abjuration and Evocation spells at low level anyway, and there are many 'Thor-like' spells that don't use modifiers for it's accuracy/potency. After this I would focus on Storm sorcerer and Heroism paladin. Sorcerer because most of his power is his own and comes from his ancestry. Paladin because he has to conduct himself with a true heroic spirit to wield Mjolnir. Whether or not you want to have more Paladin, Sorcerer, or Fighter levels depends on if you want to focus on melee or elemental combat.

    I'm pretty sure that Hammer of thunderbolts is supposed to be Mjolnir for a few reasons, 1) to attune it you have to wear a belt of giant strength or gauntlets of ogre strength (A reference to the mythologies Thor who has a belt of strength that doubles his strength and Iron gloves that help him hold onto Mjolnir). If you roll a 20 agains a giant they have to roll a dc 17 con save or they die immediately (in many stories thor kills Giants in a single blow). has charges to throw the hammer up to 60 feet if it hits a 300 foot thunderclap any enemy in the 300 foot radius must make a DC 17 con save or they are stunned until the end of your next turn. oh and it give you a +4 to strength that can allow you to exceed 20 str but not go over 30.

    8 levels of storm sorcerer- and ask the DM if you can do the thing tashas SHOULD HAVE DONE and add an expanded spell list to storm sorcery.
    the best list I found was this.
    Thunderclap-cantrip.
    thunderwave 1st
    gust of wind shatter 2nd
    call lightning fly 3rd
    storm sphere conjure minor elementals 4th
    control winds destructive wave 5th.

      I didn't consider that, it could be pretty cool as a way to round out the character a bit.

  • @greevar
    @greevar 2 года назад +6

    I would have gone with Eldritch Knight. There are plenty of spells on the EK list that don't require the INT modifier that are quite impactful. Eldritch Strike itself actually helps with target's saving throws by making them roll at disadvantage against your spells too. Being able to throw your hammer and trigger this on an opponent you want to weaken on your next turn to cast an AoE/ranged spell on would be useful.

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +3

      I definitely considered it, I just didn't feel like having an Int based casting felt right, and I liked the casting in this build with where the power comes from. Whether it be divine power or inner power, it just felt like a bit more true to character.
      Definitely could have made my life a little easier with the build just going pure Eldritch Knight, but making my life easier isn't the point of the channel lol, just trying to stick true to character as much as I can.

    • @greevar
      @greevar 2 года назад +1

      @@dndbuilds As I said, Eldritch Strike at lvl 10 would mitigate that. INT isn't really that important for the EK as long as you don't dump it. EK/Tempest is an interesting combination.

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад

      @@greevar yeah I know it wouldn't be important as far as the actual stat. Just as far as the theme of the character I generally like the idea of the source of power for the spell casting, although I guess technically and Eldritch knight could say that the early source of power comes directly from the weapon being mjolnir, I figured early on you wouldn't get those special weapons, so it was a bit of a tough call but I could see how it could go either way.

  • @Cube_Banana96
    @Cube_Banana96 2 года назад +3

    YES! (My expression was the same as Thor met Hulk :D) Very cool build! I like your approach to building this character like the movies, but I know most sessions end at level 10. So I like to have most of my essential skills earlier so I won't regret them later that is why i think i could suggest some changes.
    I would change the subclass to E.K. and swapped wisdom with intelligence (because Thor seems to know more about his people's history than about how humans work) or ignored this change altogether because you can take spells from eldrich knight without use INT and pick spells earlier like jump/shield/booming blade and you get returning weapon (cool thing!). But you can also say that Thor is himbo and lower INT and WIS for higher Charisma and then make full Fighter EK / Storm Sorcerer and you do not lose some skills at higher levels which can be useful for a level 15 campaign.
    PS.
    Recently I tried to build a Jetstream Sam based on a Samurai but still something is wrong for me (not mobile enough). Thanks to you I started to understand the builds better! :)

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +3

      Yeah a couple people mentioned going EK, part of the reason I didn't go that route is just trying to stay true to the character and where the actual power comes from. It could totally go EK and saying that the magic comes from your magical weapon which could totally work, the only reason I didn't go that route is because I like the idea of your powers when it comes to spell casting originating from the divine or from within you. But I think going EK could totally work

  • @chrimedina
    @chrimedina 2 года назад +5

    As #greevar mentioned, E.K would be a direct approach, as you get the returning weapon. This subclass also comes with some nice spells with not ST requirement, like the usefull Magic Weapon and Jump. I would pick only Storm Sorcerer for Multiclass becacuse that Cleric has not many electric spells. Blooming Blade it's your first cantrip, and the E.K can hit melee with this cantrip or shoot a spell and then teleport, then hit again with second action. If enemy moves then got the second electric damage. Some would pick SC. Aasimar to add that range damage effect. Bring me Thanos!!!

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +2

      I just couldn't avoid bringing in some Call Lightning somewhere though, and really the only way to do that without going Druid (which definitely doesn't fit Thor as a character) would be with Tempest Cleric. But I didn't think about how useful the returning weapon for EK could be.

    I think a Dwarven Star Druid with a Whelm could pull off an interesting Thor.
    Timeless body also gives a Dwarf the ability to become 1500 years old like Thor.
    Thunderclap, Thunderwave, Jump, Locate Object/Creature, Call Lightning, Protection from Energy, Elemental Bane, Planar Binding, Plane Shift, Earthquake or Control Weather, Storm of Vengeance and Investiture of Fire (transmuted to lightning) are all spells that Druid could access that are thematic.

    It's hurts my soul to hear Whelm offered as Mjolnir when Mjolnir has ALWAYS existed in D&D. Hammer of Thunderbolts. it even requires you to have Gauntlets of Ogre Strength and a Belt of Storm Giant Strength, both of which are based on Thor's mythological gear. It returns when you throw it, calls down lighting, and kills giants. Everything Mjolnir is supposed to do. Even better, with that belt your Strength will be so high you can throw a house at someone.

    How about staff of thunder and lightning for Storm breaker ?
    This staff can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff that grants a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it. It also has the following additional properties. When one of these properties is used, it can't be used again until the next dawn.
    Lightning. When you hit with a melee attack using the staff, you can cause the target to take an extra 2d6 lightning damage.
    Thunder. When you hit with a melee attack using the staff, you can cause the staff to emit a crack of thunder, audible out to 300 feet. The target you hit must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or become stunned until the end of your next turn.
    Lightning Strike. You can use an action to cause a bolt of lightning to leap from the staff's tip in a line that is 5 feet wide and 120 feet long. Each creature in that line must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 9d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
    Thunderclap. You can use an action to cause the staff to issue a deafening thunderclap, audible out to 600 feet. Each creature within 60 feet of you (not including you) must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d6 thunder damage and becomes deafened for 1 minute. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and isn't deafened.
    Thunder and Lightning. You can use an action to use the Lightning Strike and Thunderclap properties at the same time. Doing so doesn't expend the daily use of those properties, only the use of this one.

    Humm...
    Dark Scheider from Bastard!!!
    Big question: in modern DnD, are you limited to Level 20? Can you advance beyond level 20 (and into what we use to call epic levels)? If so, then Dark Scheider would definitely be Level 20+...at most level 40. Sure, he'll stop gaining Wizard levels at 20, but imagine him as a 20th level Wizard, 2nd level Fighter, and 18th level Sorcerer. Plus being able to reincarnat (one casting of a wish spell could set that up).

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +2

      You are generally limited to level 20, that's usually the max, although there are things like epic boons that can push you a little beyond in certain ways, and there are some weird ways to go slightly beyond level 20 but usually it's not really a thing.

    • @stanleyteriaca2184
      @stanleyteriaca2184 2 года назад +1

      @@dndbuilds Ok. Considering that Bastard kinda is like early-ish DnD, while set in a dystopian future nuked back to the Middle Ages, I can see something shifty to make him current edition legal. 20th level Sorcerer focusing on Fire and Lighting damage spells (he doesn't do cold, he even defeats an Efrite with a fire spell).
      Sorcerer can explain him being so charming, as Charisma is the casting stat for a Sorcerer.
      Also note: all spells are named after heavy metal songs, aublems, and band names. Same problem with Jojo actually.

      Humm...
      Thinking...
      Dark Scheider: 20th level Sorcerer. Key spells are of the Fire and Air/Lighting type.
      If your tempted to stat him out, you can watch the current version of Bastard on Netflix. Or maybe you could see the original OVA on RUclips (assuming someone has uploaded them). Note: you have to keep in mind that Dark Scheider starts out at level 20, and basically doesn't improve (but can somehow pull ways to return to life out of his arsh without becoming an undead). He says that he can cast more spells than anyone else in this world per day, but I suspect this is because everyone who casts spells are either Sorcerer class or Cleric in this world (I never seen Dark Scheider crack open a spellbook, let alone carry one...heck he is usually not even properly clothed). Uses of Wish and easily hidden magical items can explain his reincarnated immortality and extra spell uses.
      Also as a GM, you can probably allow him to cast minor spells for comic effect (in the manga he occasionally tries to cast a love spell named Kiss on Yoko, but always miscast the spell).

    Now you have to do Loki. In the MCU he doesn’t use that powerful of magic so you’d be forgiven if you went with arcane trickster but he is described as a master of magic and has over a thousand years of practice so I’d look for a full caster with martial abilities. Without any homebrew I’d go 18 levels of bard college of whispers and 2 levels of warlock hexblade. For race I’d choose Firbolg. For background it’s obviously noble. For armor I’d either go with glamoured studded leather armor or mithril half plate. For weapons I’d give him a couple of daggers, throwing knives, flame tongue short sword, and the rod of lordly might, or the rod of rulership. I’ll let you figure all of the spells to give him.

  • @frankacciarito6099
    @frankacciarito6099 2 года назад +1

    So a hammer of thunderbolts would be perfect for Thor since to use it properly you need gauntlets of Ogre Strength and a belt of giant strength which is what the real Thor has, magic gauntlets and a belt of strength(which is actually mentioned in the first MCU Spider-Man movie as Happy is packing up Avengers Tower). Hammer of Thunderbolts could easily serve as Mjolnir or Stormbreaker. A better Mjolnir would be a dwarves thrower that is literally a boomerang Warhammer that at your max build level in cleric does lightning DMG on melee attacks anyway

    Sounds interesting, although I don't like being MAD and your spell DC could be better, this would probably have been a good way to implement a Sor-Lock-Adin.
    Paladin up to level 2, Warlock up to level 1 or 3, maybe 5 if you want an extra attack (probably Hexblade) and Storm Sorcerer until the end.
    Eldritch Blast could be reflavored as you trowing the hammer, after all you can "throw it" and call it back to your hand as many times as you like.

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +1

      Yeah usually I shy away from being too MAD too. But focusing on Booming blade avoids too much of that, and then any spell for involving a DC really needs to use Heightened Spell to be viable.

    Hey mate, so I just discovered this and absolutely love it! I am going to start this one in a new campaign in a few weeks. One question I do have.. how would you change this build (if at all) if you weren't following the MCU order, but were just making it the best Thor build you could? Or is there anything you'd change a little that doesn't fit with MCU but would optimise build? Very keen to optimise!

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +1

      Glad you like the build!!! I'm always happy to try and help out with some alterations if you're playing this in a real campaign there's two things I would probably change first off I would take the feet crusher or slasher sooner, that way you don't wind up with an odd number in your stats for so long.
      And the other thing would be to see how you feel as the build keeps going, because you'll have much more time as you level up to decide how you want the bill to go. If you feel like you really want to mix things up and throw in some heavier spellcasting then go with the sorcerer multi-class that I mentioned. Otherwise you can go full-blown fighter 11 cleric 9, and if you think you want to do that early on you could even dump some of the charisma but that's really up to you because the charisma will affect the role-playing a bit. However there will be less ability scores to focus on which does make the build much more optimized. But at the same time you will miss out on a few other spells that we got from being a sorcerer, so there will be a bit of give and take, but if you really like being in melee combat, and not focusing as heavily on the spellcasting, that would be one of the few things I might alter. You would be more optimized towards me like combat, but you would be less versatile overall.

    • @mattyspoons777
      @mattyspoons777 2 года назад +1

      @@dndbuilds thank you so much mate, this is very helpful! I am so pumped to make this character, and I have a few more questions if that's ok.
      At what point would you pick up crusher or slasher? Do you think this build 'as-is' is doable for later game? As in not spread too thin? (Only asking because I've never multi classed three classes). I am very keen to keep the sorcerer element, because like you, I just couldn't go past that lightning bolt spell (and a few others). Would you still be pretty ok in melee combat with all 3 classes? Is there any stats you would change that moves away from the "making Thor for the MCU" element of the build and moving towards optimisation? (You did touch on this a bit if taking our sorcerer, but again, super keen on that lightning).
      Thanks so much, and love your work!

    • @dndbuilds
      @dndbuilds  2 года назад +1

      @@mattyspoons777 if you do want to keep the amount of sorcerer and the amount of cleric and the rest of the build pretty much the same, I would recommend completely dumping dexterity. It will make it rough for any dex saving throws that you need, but you can put those points towards one of these spell casting ability scores. It'll help the casting a little bit. And otherwise I think you should be okay, you still won't be as optimized for melee combat as some others but you'll have plenty of casting. And to really boost up that casting that much more, make sure that you take the two cleric spells spiritual weapon which you can pretend is one of the weapons that Thor has, and definitely pick up Spirit guardians, that is honestly one of the best spells to possibly use on the front lines. Lastly if you really want to optimize, and you're using a one-handed weapon throw on a shield to take a few more hits.

    @morganpetros9635 Год назад

    You do not "grab" or "get access to" cleric bonus spells. You both know them and have them prepared automatically. That's why they're called *BONUS* spells.
    As far as fighter goes, WotC has once again perverted the mythology around rune magic. Rune lore was something Odin learned when he hanged himself from Yggadsdril and later taught to humans; it never had *ANYTHING* to do with giants. I don't see a lot in early Rune Knight abilities that would be all that appropriate except maybe Cloud rune. Everything else would just kinda have to be a placeholder until 7th level, when you could take Hill rune and trade out your placeholder for Storm.
    Speaking of fighter, what the hell were you thinking, completely stopping fighter advancement *ONE LEVEL* before getting your next feat? You should've stopped at level 6 or gone on to level 8.
    And significant levels in three classes really screws up character effectiveness. If I was going to take levels in three classes, I'd make damned sure to simply dip into one of them. For example, you really get all you *NEED* from Tempest cleric at second level. On the other hand, significant levels in sorcerer really reduce your hit point total, especially if you're only doing it for Lightning Bolt, which is *not* a good spell, and ten feet of free jumping movement.
    But if I *REALLY* wanted to play the God of Thunder, I'd likely go fighter 6 (Battle Master, Eldritch Knight or possibly Rune Knight ... Champion is boring)/Tempest cleric 2/sorcerer (either Storm or possibly blue Draconic Bloodline), and I'd *DEFINITELY* take first Levitate and later Fly. Because it doesn't matter *HOW* Thor flies, the simple fact is that he *DOES.* But this split would maximize available feats (Tough would be a big one here; he's a god, after all), allow us to do everything the God of Thunder does, and also give us more sorcery points.
    Oh, and I'd likely take Blade Ward as a cantrip. I know a lot of people poo-pooh the spell, but it would help emphasize the Thunderer's toughness ... and when you can Quicken your spells *AND* you have Action Surge, the one-action casting time doesn't seem so bad in clutch moments. 😉
    I'd also take Duelist as my fighting style, especially if I planned on primarily using Mjolnir.

      I read most of the Thor comics while growing up so the characters were all near and dear to me. The death of The Executioner was probably the first time I cried from any piece of media, and to see it done in such a lackluster way vs the original from the comics made me sad.
