Cheng Yi as Zhang Qiling - firstly his wardrobe gives me 007 vibes. Zhang Qiling in suits 👌🏽 he’s different - but acts like how I imagined him in the stories. I like that we see his struggles with amnesia, those scenes where we think he has lost himself and WuXie is a heartbroken puppy. He’s vulnerable, quite soft underneath that silent and powerful exterior. WuXie really cares for him to the point where he’ll put himself in danger trying to save him. There are moments when Qiling will look at WuXie in a fashion of a starving person seeing a five course meal. There’s a strong intensity, which I find more convincing in this version? WuXie is shirtless a lot having nightmares about losing XiaoGe. Nice touch. I found the side story with Cheng Yi playing the Lieutenant solider confusing because it wasn’t Qiling - it kinda seemed like it could have been.
