The more I try it, the more sure I am it is Glenfarclas, I’ve recently purchased the two 8 year olds, I’ve tried the blended scotch and it is a lot different, may have some Glenfarclas malt but initial thoughts is its overwhelmed by the grain. Cheers Christopher 🥃
There's the Family Casks, there's the standard line, and then there's the Lismore. I'm sure it's the 3rd and 4th fill casks filled with the distillate that is cushioning the heart cut - a little bit heads & a little bit tails maybe. I've only had a sample of the 8 year and I thought it was just fine. I'd explore the Lismore a little bit more for sure.
Lismore 10 is $25 here in the US and is IMHO a wonderful buy. We use it as a casual sipper, and as a workhorse for our cocktails. I have seen the older Lismores. but have largely ignored them. Until now. :--) As soon as I get back home I will snag a bottle of the 21 and try it!
Thanks for watching, I’ve bought most of the Lismore range now, even the 8 year old blended scotch is decent, the 10 you mention is a fantastic buy, Lismore in the U.K. aren’t a well known brand so many are missing a decent every day sipper.
It’s a shame that distribution is limited in this way, the Glenfarclas 8 year old, which I enjoy isn’t available in the U.K., it’s specifically for Germany, I asked if they would release in the U.K. but they have no intention at this time. May be worth contacting them and expressing your interest. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Interesting stuff, Mark. I don't think we'll see Lismore in Australia/NZ . However, I bought Aldi's Glen Marnoch ‘Highland’ 25 YO (40%) for AUD$100 in Aust. That's $10 less than the Fettercairn 12 YO, 1/3 of the Dalmore 18 YO, less than 1/2 of Glenfarclas 25 YO, and 1/7 of GlenDronach 25 YO. And the rumours are that it could come from one of these distilleries. Your theory of underperforming, re-refill casks is plausible. My guess is maybe Fettercairn. Not Glenfarclas because as you say it has a clear signature. And how does this Glen Marnoch taste?: fine, with oranges, honey, and some good tannins.
I just got a bottle of this in the US for $100. Can’t wait to open it up!
Really interesting review Mark , with some great background Information.
Thanks Gaz. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
That 43% is another hint that it's Glenfarclas. Great info. Thanks 👍

What a great review Mark. Really interesting and I also like Glen Farclas so I’m off to look at Master of Malt. Thanks.

Hopefully things will change soon and you will start to see bottles showing up, the whole brexit thing! Thanks for watching 🙏
